I've been really, really busy lately, so this game is coming a month late. For those that participated last year, you know the drill. The point of the game is to make *bold* predictions concerning the 2010 Draft. You're doing well if you get one in three right. The entire point is to be bold.
My definition of bold is something that is against standard thought. This means no "Ndamukong Suh is going #1 Overall". Or, no "Maurkice Pouncey is the best OC in this draft and will be drafted first at the position". Keep the predictions bold. The more debate they create, the better. And, if you don't want to be overly bold, maybe try something extremely exact like "The Broncos will sign "x" in Free Agency", or "The Ravens will draft "x" in Round 2". If you want to predict a trade, do that as well.
Remember, the point is to think outside the box. You will be wrong most of the time. The fun is in seeing who gets the most predictions right. Also, try and get some predictions in BEFORE the Combine. Things get much, much easier to predict after you get all the Combine data. Part of the fun is guessing which players will blow up and which will bomb. And to encourage this, I'm doing two methods of scoring this year.
Scoring Rules:
METHOD ONE:
1) All predictions dated BEFORE the 2010 Scouting Combine get 2 points if correct.
2) All predictions dated AFTER the 2010 Scouting Combine get 1 point if correct.
3) Any non-bold predictions (at the time of creation) are ignored.
4) A MINIMUM of FIVE (5) Bold Predictions are needed or I'm not going to score. There is no maximum, do as many as you can think up.
5) I'll tally up the points, so this scoring system awards Pre-Combine predictions and volume of predictions.
METHOD TWO:
1) A MINIMUM of FIVE (5) Bold Predictions are needed.
2) I'll simply do a standard percentage scoring and list the order of whom is the most accurate. This scoring method awards foresight and accuracy.
So, we will have two final scoring lists for all participants.
DISCLAIMER:
Inevitablely, during some future debate, someone will link to your posts in this thread and question your intelligence. They will laugh at your predictions, call you a moron, and completely fail to understand the purpose of this game. It's going to happen. Probably more than once. You have been warned.
MUG's DRAFT PREDICTIONS (Pre-Combine)
1. Jimmy Clausen will be the #1 Overall selection in this draft.
2. Jared Odrick will be a Top 20 selection.
3. Tim Tebow will be drafted in the top 50 selections and before Colt McCoy.
4. Micah Johnson will be a 5th Round selection or later
5. Maurkice Pouncey will be a Top 20 selection and will be drafted higher than any OC in the last 10 years.
6. Tony Scheffler will net nothing higher than a 5th Round pick if he's traded.
7. Brandon Marshall will not net 1st and 3rd Round draft picks in a trade, but he will be traded, and I'll guess for a 2nd and 3rd/4th.
8. The Broncos will commit to Kyle Orton as our franchise's QB and will not draft/trade for a QB regardless of what Bowlen says.
10. Tyson Alualu will be drafted by a 3-4 team in the 2nd Round to play as a 5-technique despite less than ideal size.
11. Dan Williams will be off the board before the Broncos pick in the 1st Round.
12. The Broncos will sign at least THREE of the following Free Agents: Cory Redding, Stephen Neal, Kevin Mawae, Rex Hadnot, Jarvis Green, and JJ Arrington.
13. The Patriots will draft Demaryius Thomas in the 2nd Round.
14. Ryan Mathews will be the first RB drafted.
15. S Chad Jones will be drafted at least 15 selections before S Taylor Mays.
16. DE Corey Wootton will be drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in Round 2.
17. CB Joe Haden will fall outside of the Top 10
18. The Oakland Raiders will draft OT Jared Veldheer in the early 2nd Round.
19. CB Patrick Robinson will not be drafted in the Top 50 selections.
20. WR Taylor Price is a Top 75 selection while Mardy Gilyard, Jordan Shipley, Dezmon Briscoe, and Dexter McCluster are not.
21. CB Donovan Warren will be a 1st Round selection.
22. OT Bruce Campbell will NOT be a 1st Round selection.
23. Denver will draft OC Matt Tennant or JD Walton in the 3rd Round.
24. DT Cam Thomas will NOT be drafted in the Top 75 picks.
25. OG John Jerry WILL be drafted in the Top 75 picks, but not as an OG, specifically as a RT.
More to come later, I'm going to try for 50 before the Combine....
