  • 2010 Bold Draft Predictions Game

I've been really, really busy lately, so this game is coming a month late. For those that participated last year, you know the drill. The point of the game is to make *bold* predictions concerning the 2010 Draft. You're doing well if you get one in three right. The entire point is to be bold.

My definition of bold is something that is against standard thought. This means no "Ndamukong Suh is going #1 Overall". Or, no "Maurkice Pouncey is the best OC in this draft and will be drafted first at the position". Keep the predictions bold. The more debate they create, the better. And, if you don't want to be overly bold, maybe try something extremely exact like "The Broncos will sign "x" in Free Agency", or "The Ravens will draft "x" in Round 2". If you want to predict a trade, do that as well.

Remember, the point is to think outside the box. You will be wrong most of the time. The fun is in seeing who gets the most predictions right. Also, try and get some predictions in BEFORE the Combine. Things get much, much easier to predict after you get all the Combine data. Part of the fun is guessing which players will blow up and which will bomb. And to encourage this, I'm doing two methods of scoring this year.

    Scoring Rules:

    METHOD ONE:

    1) All predictions dated BEFORE the 2010 Scouting Combine get 2 points if correct.

    2) All predictions dated AFTER the 2010 Scouting Combine get 1 point if correct.

    3) Any non-bold predictions (at the time of creation) are ignored.

    4) A MINIMUM of FIVE (5) Bold Predictions are needed or I'm not going to score. There is no maximum, do as many as you can think up.

    5) I'll tally up the points, so this scoring system awards Pre-Combine predictions and volume of predictions.

    METHOD TWO:

    1) A MINIMUM of FIVE (5) Bold Predictions are needed.

    2) I'll simply do a standard percentage scoring and list the order of whom is the most accurate. This scoring method awards foresight and accuracy.

So, we will have two final scoring lists for all participants.

    DISCLAIMER:

Inevitablely, during some future debate, someone will link to your posts in this thread and question your intelligence. They will laugh at your predictions, call you a moron, and completely fail to understand the purpose of this game. It's going to happen. Probably more than once. You have been warned.

    MUG's DRAFT PREDICTIONS (Pre-Combine)

    1. Jimmy Clausen will be the #1 Overall selection in this draft.
    2. Jared Odrick will be a Top 20 selection.
    3. Tim Tebow will be drafted in the top 50 selections and before Colt McCoy.
    4. Micah Johnson will be a 5th Round selection or later
    5. Maurkice Pouncey will be a Top 20 selection and will be drafted higher than any OC in the last 10 years.
    6. Tony Scheffler will net nothing higher than a 5th Round pick if he's traded.
    7. Brandon Marshall will not net 1st and 3rd Round draft picks in a trade, but he will be traded, and I'll guess for a 2nd and 3rd/4th.
    8. The Broncos will commit to Kyle Orton as our franchise's QB and will not draft/trade for a QB regardless of what Bowlen says.
    10. Tyson Alualu will be drafted by a 3-4 team in the 2nd Round to play as a 5-technique despite less than ideal size.
    11. Dan Williams will be off the board before the Broncos pick in the 1st Round.
    12. The Broncos will sign at least THREE of the following Free Agents: Cory Redding, Stephen Neal, Kevin Mawae, Rex Hadnot, Jarvis Green, and JJ Arrington.
    13. The Patriots will draft Demaryius Thomas in the 2nd Round.
    14. Ryan Mathews will be the first RB drafted.
    15. S Chad Jones will be drafted at least 15 selections before S Taylor Mays.
    16. DE Corey Wootton will be drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in Round 2.
    17. CB Joe Haden will fall outside of the Top 10
    18. The Oakland Raiders will draft OT Jared Veldheer in the early 2nd Round.
    19. CB Patrick Robinson will not be drafted in the Top 50 selections.
    20. WR Taylor Price is a Top 75 selection while Mardy Gilyard, Jordan Shipley, Dezmon Briscoe, and Dexter McCluster are not.
    21. CB Donovan Warren will be a 1st Round selection.
    22. OT Bruce Campbell will NOT be a 1st Round selection.
    23. Denver will draft OC Matt Tennant or JD Walton in the 3rd Round.
    24. DT Cam Thomas will NOT be drafted in the Top 75 picks.
    25. OG John Jerry WILL be drafted in the Top 75 picks, but not as an OG, specifically as a RT.

More to come later, I'm going to try for 50 before the Combine....

    1. Colt McCoy will drop to the 4th round unless selected by the Vikings in the 3rd.
    2. Tebow will be a 1st round pick
    3. Odrick will be a top 15 pick
    4. Clausen will go no.1 overall
    5. There will be 3 OTs taken in the first 10 picks
    6. The Raiders will draft Carlos Dunlap and Taylor Mays

I'll edit this post for more later but these will do for now I guess.

I guess I have a different idea of what a BOLD prediction is than the first 2 posters do. Clausen being the first pick? Over a third of the mock drafts on the net have him as the 1st overall. 3 tackles being taken in the top 10? There are 3 tackles that are rated by many as top 10 talent. Odrick being a top 20 pick? Most have him as a first round lock, so is placing him top 20 really a reach? This is your game though Mug, so you make the rules. Here's my early predictions:

        1. The Denver Broncos will trade up to draft Sam Bradford in the 1st round.
        2. The first Denver player to be traded in the offseason will be Chris Kuper.
        3. The 2 top defensive risers at the combine will be Jason Pierre-Paul and Everson Griffen.
        4. LT will sign with the New England Patriots.
        5. Julius Peppers will sign with the Washington Redskins.
        6. Jacoby Ford will turn in the fastest clocked 40 time in the history of the NFL combine.
        7. S Eric Berry will drop out of the top 10 in the draft.
        8. Darren Sharper will also sign with the New England Patriots.
        9. Denver will draft one of the following 2 tackles in the 2nd round to play guard- Vladimir Ducasse or Rodger Saffold.
        10. Tim Tebow will be a 1st round pick.

I'll try to post more before the week is out, and hopefully before the combine. Should we put predictions in another reply rather than editing our original post? That way we have the dates of the predictions and you can match them up with events later Mug.

          1. Tim Tebow will be the one of the first 2 QB's to get drafted.
          2. Denver will not draft a QB in the 1st rd even if Clausen or Bradford is sitting at our pick.
          3. Denver will draft one of these QB's: Jarrett Brown, Zac Robinson, or John Skelton.
          4. Denver will go against their character rule and draft either CB Perrish Cox or RB LaMarcus Coker.
          5. Denver will not draft a O-Lineman in the first three rounds.
          6. Denver will trade Ryan Harris to the Redskins.
          7. Ryan Clady will be our only starting lineman left on our revamped O-Line.
          8. Jarvis Moss will play a huge role in the LB rotation this year.
          9. Peyton Hillis will be the starting FB, and will be very productive out of the backfield.

As for the "bold" part, really, you have to allow folks some leeway. If it is at all controversial, I think it qualifies. Obviously, some are more bold than others, but as long as it's not the norm, I think all is well.

To defend the Clausen and Odrick predictions a little bit, I think there is enough debate on Clausen that putting him (or Bradford) #1 Overall is bold. Lots of questions with those two and nobody knows what will happen. The Odrick thing is a debate I've had ongoing with Mindfield since August, which was that he'd be a 1st Round pick, but I made it Top 20 to make it more difficult. I'm having issues fitting him in my Top 20 in my mock draft. The only options I see are us, Giants, Steelers, and Texans. I think if Dez Bryant and Dan Williams are gone when we pick, he's a serious option for us. I really believe in Odrick, I think somehow he gets in there.

As for the 3 OTs in the first 10 picks by the other poster, I think that qualifies, I don't believe 3 go in the Top 10. Really, I'm only expecting Okung. I think Davis will test poorly and he's been very inconsistent. And I think Bulaga's arms and thyroid issue will drop him some. I think Williams is a RT. And I think Campbell is a Late 1st Rounder at best due to his massive injury history.

To answer your question about editing though, this website recently implemented a 4 day edit rule, after which, you can no longer edit your post. So, we have no choice but to make multiple prediction posts as time goes by. It's annoying, but after the draft, I'll find and match everyone's predictions. So, edit until your 4 days are up, then just do another post when need be.

                          2. Denver will draft Dan LeFevour in round 3
                          3. We will draft Kyle Wilson in round 2
                          4. If we don't draft Dan Williams we will draft Mt.Cody in round 2
                          5. Denver will not trade Brandon Marshall.

Excellent post mug this should be fun.

                            1. Dez Bryant will be drafted in the top 5
                            2. No quarterback will be drafted in the top 5
                            3. Tebow has an amazing pro day and is the second QB drafted. ( clausen being the first)
                            4. Denver will trade Dumervil and get an additonal 1st rounder and we then will draft Williams and McClain. in no specific order.
                            5. Denver drafts a QB in the 2nd

So, edit until your 4 days are up, then just do another post when need be.

the best thing to do would probally be to copy the old post into a new one and add your new predictions that way we keep it closer together.....
