So I get what you're saying, but in football "speed" can mean 40 time.

Heck, I think "speed" for distances below 40 is the most important. That's why they measure those fractional times.

And for Tebow (I know, different thread), his three-cone and shuttle times are much more indicative for what he needs to do (scoot around in the pocket, shimmy between tackles for a first down). Tebow doesn't ever really need to "open it up" for 40 yards.
No, that's not my point. My point is that DT running a 40 of 4.38 means he can still have great downfield speed. If DT's a little slow out of the blocks, which a lot of big men are, but then makes up that stagger with great acceleration (which means he's leaving people at 15 to 20 yards), and then transitions nicely (gaining greater separation at 20 to 40 yards), and then is just sick from 40 yards on, then he can have great downfield speed and run a 4.38. Heck Randy Moss has made a career of that. But Randy runs in the high 4.2s.

The point is just because the guy runs a 4.38 doesn't mean he can't beat people deep.

Tebow's just sick, man. That kid is all kinds of gifted as an athlete. In confined spaces, he's a maniac for sure. But the sliding in the pocket thing, to me, is more about feel. I think Tom Brady ran like a 5.27 40 yard dash, but that guy can slide in the pocket and buy himself time with the best of them.

Given that a person is healthy and hasn't suffered any restrictive long term injury, I think it is important to know what that person is capable of running. Therefore Thomas is likely able to run 4.4 or less. That is important to me, because you can't learn straight line speed, other than some refinement on how to be most effective when running it.

When I was young, there was a top end speed that I had, but it was never going to be fast enough, no matter what I did. I was able to run routes, but the speed wasn't there.....quickness yes, moves yes, straight line speed - no. Someone like Thomas has proven to run a good 40, which means he can do it over and over. Plus he can run routes, catch the ball, and do it all with size. This guy has it all from the sound of it.

I don't believe he ran in the combine or pro day due to injury. However, I saw a video that sounded like he said he ran in the 4.3's the week before the combine. Is that true???
4.3s maybe a little high for a big man like that. Schools are pretty notorious for exagerating their players speed. I'd guess he runs around a 4.45/4.50, somewhere more in that range, but a 4.38 would be nice.

          mY GOODNESS

People are arguing 7 pages on weather a guy runs one blink of an eye or two blinks of an eye faster or slower than what has been listed..........

This is a 10th of a second we are talking about people. 1/10th!!!!

Do you really think if he runs 2/10ths slower that he now is going to be slower. That the difference between him and the CB is 1/10..NO WAY!!!!

This man is big and strong, just because the DB has the 2/10ths of a second on him does not mean he is tackled. It only means the DB will for a brief moment be able to get a finger tip on him. Finger tips will not bring this man down!!!

Chalk it up to this. The man is big, strong, and fast. Like I said back in January. He is a marshall clone balls to bones only faster. Screw the .40 time. I will be arguing touchdowns. you guys can bikker about how many eye blinks faster or slower he is then the next guy.
          So far:
          FA- Melvin Gordon. Brandon Scherff
          1. Kenneth Murray LB; 2. Shenault WR; 2B. Biadazz Center, 3. OT

1/10th of a second in the 40 can mean 1/4 of a second or 9 yards in the 100.
