  • McD just wants to make the line athletic enough that he can run even more bubble screens. More seriously, iirc he did bring in some of the more consensus 2nd round linesmen to work out, so maybe they just didn't impress him.

If we can come out with the same quality of draft as either of those drafts, it will have been a very good draft.

One way to measure how good or bad it was is how many made the team, played and were re-signed.

No Broncos remain from 2001, '02, '03. If they made the team, did they get cut or traded? These would be in their eighth, ninth or tenth seasons if they had made the team, played well and were re-signed.

One player remains from 2004: DJ Williams. He is in his seventh season, is 27 years old and has been re-signed. He was a 1st rounder.

No one remains from the 2005 draft.

The above leads me to believe that the Broncos drafted very poorly for the first five years of this century.

In 2006 Cutler, Scheffler, Marshall, Dumervil, Hixon, Kuper and Eslinger were drafted. The 3rd round pick was traded for Javon Walker. Cutler, Marshall and Scheffler were traded for draft picks in '09, '10, '11 and Kyle Orton. Dumervil and Kuper remain of whom the latter has been re-signed.

The 2007 draft is somewhat mixed. Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder, Ryan Harris and Marcus Thomas were drafted. The jury is still out on Moss and Thomas, but Harris has excelled, albeit with some injuries.

The impression I have formed is that going into the 2008 draft, Shanahan knew he had to improve so a big effort was made: Clady, Royal, Lichtensteiger, Williams, Torain, Powell, Larsen, Barrett and Hillis. Four of the nine remain; less than 50%, although Clady and Royal are starters.

2009 rendered Moreno, Ayers, Smith, McBath, Quinn, McKinley, Bruton, Olsen, Brandstater and Schleuter. It's too early to tell, but so far, eight of the ten remain; 80%.

It's impossible to tell and pointless to argue at this point exactly how good or bad the 2010 draft will turn out to be. Nine were drafted. Walton looks like a starter in 2010. Beadles may start this year, too. D. Thomas might be starting before the end of the season. Tebow may see the field in certain situations, but most likely won't start. Decker's injury rehab is a question.

It seems possible that the first six guys picked in 2010 might be starters at the beginning of the 2011 season. If so, that would be 67% starters after one year. In the event that comes to pass, it would be remarkable by any standard.

Someone on this thread has called the current Bronco FO idiots. If that is so, then what term do we reserve for the awful draft performance of the previous regime?
The only player I know from the 2005 draft is Darrent Williams and Foxworth other than those two corners I really don't know. If I remember correctly Shanny wanted to draft a corner to pair up with champ so he drafted three. If Dwill wont have been shot down Im sure he would've remain here for another couple of years.

stnzed, you have reached a point where you really offer nothing but poison to these boards and that's sad. I can understand and respect skepticism, but all you seem to want to do is attack the coaches and FO of the team for no real reason other than you disagree with their views on how to build a team.

So far they've produced an 8-8 season. Yet you act like they've ruined the team. You talk more trash about your own team than rival fans. Don't you see a problem there?

There is a difference between skepticism and pure negativity my friend...
Only fools bet against Tim Tebow.

          Team Tebow #108

          Yards, without points, mean nothing.

          • Personally, I am still waiting until the end of the year to evaluate our 2009 draft. I am one of many who believe we will see major contributions from Moreno, Ayers, McBath, and Baker, this year.

I also feel Quinn (blocking), Smith (top reserve CB), Bruton (ST/backup), and McKinley will also be key depth for us.

Any draft that produces 4 starters and 4 key depth guys has to be considered an A. These guys will get all the opportunities in the world this year, so we will know going forward what we really have.

            R Ayers - B Cofield - A Haynesworth - CJ ohnson
            J Anderson - J Beason - DJ Williams
            R Bailey - P Amukamara - R Hill - A Goodman
