  • Vikes may need Orton

favre has stated that he may never play again if he has to have ankle surgery to get back on the field again this year. i know this may be far fetched. but, denver has a surplus of qb's right now. if for some reason one of them doesn't work out. would you be against us trading away orton or one of our other qb's for future picks to the vikes?

again, this is just food for thought. no matter what happens. there is no way all 4 guys stay on our roster for very long.

Brett Favre has been informed that he requires surgery on his left ankle to play the upcoming season for the Vikings and is deliberating whether to have the procedure or simply to end his 19-year NFL career.

Isn't next year's QB class supposed to be pretty strong? I wonder if they could get their guy next season.

I just heard the news and was thinking the same thing. Tough call.....we have a nice stable of QBs, some with short term capability and some with long term potential but not quite ready to start. BUT if you could get some real nice goods in return, maybe you deal.

In that case you stay with who you want to keep long term. I believe Bowlen gives Josh all the room he needs, so going one year at a time is not the likely decision-making point. Therefore we would not let go of Tebow (he appears to be the future), or Orton, because we need Kyle now plus he may get better year after year. He is still a contender long term. So, is it Brady or Tom......question is, would the Vikes want either one.....not sure. Maybe we should try to find out.

The Vikings may NEED Orton...pure speculation.

With the news that Brett Favre may need to have surgery before he can come back, and the fact that he has not actually had it yet, maybe this could be a golden opportunity to take advantage of a good team desperate for a quarterback.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me why Josh McDaniels loaded up on QB's. That is what he does. He was the QB coach for Tom Brady when he had one of the greatest seasons a QB has ever had, then took a guy that never even got in in college and made him into someone the Pats traded for a second round pick (if I remember correctly).

Why not load up on quarterbacks when you have the reputation in the league of someone who get quarterbacks to "figure it out". Now here we are with a golden opportunity to maybe trade a veteran guy to a team that needs insurance, especially knowing that the window in the NFL can slam shut at any time. Now obviously Orton is no Favre, but they may have no other choice, and we may be able to get a high round pick out of it.

It's kind of what Shanny did with RB's.

It will be interesting to see what happens as the off season wears on, and the vikes get more and more worried that Favre won't come back.

not sure the vikes will want to wait a year to get a rep for favre if he doesn't come back this year. they are built to win now, which is why they acquired favre in the first place.

seeing as how mcd loves to sandbag draft picks, i figured this would be a way for him to get started for next years draft.

It depends what the return is and how comfortable the FO is with the other QB's on the rostor, but if there's an opportunity to sell high, it would be worth a look.

They already have Rosenfels who was going to be the new starter before Favre decided he wanted to play again.

The Redskins got a 2012, 4th round pick for Jason Campbell who put up nearly identical stats to Orton, I would assume Orton's value is right around that.

Favre is gonna milk this process, like he always does, and in the meantime the Vikes will just wait for him to return right before the regular season. I think the odds of him retiring this summer are slim. Rosenfels and Jackson will get the reps until Favre ambles back into the locker room in 4 months, and I doubt the Vikings trade for any QBs.

Damn! That's the first thing I thought of when I heard about Favre!

McD might want to move on this. It might be the very pinnacle of Orton's trade value...
                      "That's a crap question."

Nah, keep Orton with his cheap 1 year deal. Send Orton away next season.

And get zip, nada, nil, zero, in return? That's not the Patriots - er, I mean the McDaniels way. Draft picks! Gotta get more draft picks...

It depends on the offer, I would do it depending what we get in return.
