The thing that makes me not want to take a corner so high is that if you look at the two dominant defenses of the last decade or so (Baltimore and Pittsburgh) they don't exactly have extraordinary corners. Instead, they have incredible front 7's. They have run pluggers and pass rushers on the D-line, huge run plugging ILB's, OLB's that rush the passer, and one playmaking safety (Polamalu, Reed).

This is the model I feel we should build our D around, and Fairley is a really good first step. A CB that high I feel is just a waste.

So I say go after the best D-Line prospect out there. Watt, Fairley, Clayborne, etc. Whoever it is just take him. If there was a stud safety prospect (like a Laron Landry or something like that) I'd consider it, but there's nobody who's that good in this draft.

Yeah I've changed my mind. Nick Fairley, Patrick Peterson and Andrew Luck are the three "can't miss" prospects in this draft. (Assuming Luck leaves early, which he may not)

The Broncos have seemingly already drafted their QB for the future, and have sufficient depth at CB as of now.

Nick Fairley is someone that a defense can be built around.

If we're picking at 4 or 5 then I want Fairley or Dareus as I think both will be studs for our defence. I'd love one of Amukamara or Peterson but we need some presence on the D-line before we go CB.

Also as long as we have a new HC next year I'd love to see Kyle Rudolph with our 2nd round pick.

I completely agree with you here. The best defenses build from the line on up. Your corners dont need to be shut down if you are always getting pressure on the QB.

If we can get Fairly, another rush LB, and a NT for the future then our defense will look much better. Then with the possibility of moving Champ to safety to be our 'Ed Reed' type guy with Cox and Goody at Cb our defense could be very good next season.

I don't know if we'd get the best value picking a 5-tech in the top 10. It's a position which doesn't require the most talented guys (although, obviously, it requires some talent). For the first round, I'd say that my preference chart would be NT > S > CB > DE as seriously talented, game-changing NTs and Ss don't come along that often. For the second round, I'd like to see an emphasis on DE and TE (yeah, an offensive pick, but a good receiving TE - I'm talking about ones who can block, Tony - gives us more options in the secondary and probably open up a little more space underneath which would benefit a guy like Eddie Royal hugely. Of course, if we can nab an FA such as Marcedes Lewis then great, but it's our most glaring hole on O at the moment). I guess a lot of this depends on how things go with Champ; it's obvious the coaching staff want him back though, hopefully he doesn't hold things against the FO.
