Man this kid Is insane. I've watched only a couple Clemson games this year but he seems like one heck of an athlete, especially with his size. I haven't heard f any ff the field issues, so perhaps he is mcdaniels material? However I haven't seen many posts on this site backing the selection of him. Why is that?

I believe he would be an excellent pick for the weak side defensive end in our 3-4 , while moving vickerson to the strong side to rotate with bannan. What's everyones opinion on this young prospect? (very young as he turned 20 not too long ago!)

I think he would be better off playing SOLB (Ayers spot) than he would playing DE in this system. I don't think he would big enough or strong enough to hold off the Olinemen he would be going up against. His speed at his size might make him a good pass rushing threat while still stopping the run. If he is available in round 2, I see him as a possibility but they won't take him in the first.

You don't think he's a bit big for OLB? Ive seen him listed at 6'4" 285, am I getting inflated measurables?

Ultimately this kid is a great prospect but I think his weight has quite a few people fooled. He's not a 34 DE unless it's an obvious passing down. Otherwise he's a 4-3 LDE or a 3-4 SOLB. Now we have Ayers and while I don't think Ayers will be as good as a pass rusher as Bowers will be, I do think Ayers will be a much better run stopper and with Dumervil on the team I think a run stopper on the opposite side would be more important. Plus Bowers would have to learn how to play 3-4 SOLB, something Ayers already has the upper hand on.

No he's in the 275-285 range but he doesn't play as strong as his weight suggests he would to me. Ayers plays in that same range as well

How high is he expected to be drafted? I've seen mocks where he's a top 3 pick.

Why waist a high round draft choice to play a position

the we already have Ayers in???? He is going to be a dynomite 4-3 DE though!

Yeah, Bowers is perfect for a 4-3 scheme.

While I do see us drafting another OLB (situational pass rusher), I doubt it will be in the first round.

The average weight of the defensive end last year was 280 with the average weight of a 3-4 lineman as 295. I've heard even though he is listed at 280, the guy plays so much bigger. He is more than just a Sack artist, he leads the nation in sacks, but before this year was known as a run stopper with something like 50 tackles his sophomore year. The guy is a physical freak, when Calvin Johnson came out he was lauded for his physical attributes and bowers will be the same only as a DE. The guy is beyond disruptive, he down right changes game plans. He us someone you can't pass up, and will be star in the NFL. Any doubts on his strength are just flat out wrong, he has a great first step and a nose for the football. Even though he is undersized I have no doubts that he could make the translation to 3-4 DE he is just that good.

Very, very high. Probably top 5 at the least, could go as high as 1 depending if Carolina wants him.

He wouldn't fit here. He's a 4-3 type of player anyway.

He'll go to a 4-3 team, probably Cincinnati, and be great for years. Love the guy, but he doesn't fit what we're doing.

When you are one of the worse defense in the NFL, how can you say a tremendous prospect like this wouldn't fit?

Grab the best DL prospects you can and throw 4-3 looks if you need to. I can not understand why the fans around here love the 3-4 so much when we have no NT, and a couple back up DEs for it. I am sure if you asked Doom what he prefers, he would say he just wants to win.

Bowers, Doom, Ayers, and Hunter would be an elite set of DEs for a 4-3...maybe as good as any in the NFL. Particularly since I could see Bowers being able to play some nickel DT ala Tuck from NYG. Imagine having Doom, Ayers, and Bowers going after the QB on 3rd downs

                          R Ayers - B Cofield - A Haynesworth - CJ ohnson
                          J Anderson - J Beason - DJ Williams
                          R Bailey - P Amukamara - R Hill - A Goodman

Jarvis Jenkins is more likely to go as a 3-4 DE then he is, he is a prototypical 4-3 DE and and wont fit well in our system.

Honestly I am falling off the Allen Bailey band wagon too (despite him being a strong run stuffer whose weakness is against the pass) we need guys who can play big and are big and wont get thrown around in 3-4 D at the next level. IMO we go after Cameron Jordan or Fairley fist and see who is left after that.

Round 2? He's probably a top 5 lock. And he definitely wouldn't play DE in a 3-4, it'd be a waste of his talents. He's an OLB in a 3-4, and I doubt we take a look at him considering how high he should be going.
