  • Prospects to Watch: Oklahoma vs. Nebraska (12/4/10)

Hey guys. I know whenever I watch a big game like these, I'm keying on some prospects that I feel could really be a fit for us. In this game, the Big 12 Championship, there's plenty of talent to watch that I believe is relevant to us during draft time.

    Oklahoma Prospects:

Jeremy Beal - DE/OLB - 6'3" 260: Big time pass rusher. He's expected to be a top 25-50 pick in this draft. He's got a real nice first step and burst off the snap. I think he will help out whoever gets him immediately, he's a very polished player.
    2010 Stats: 60 Total Tackles, 18 TFL, 8.5 Sacks, 3 FF, 1 FR

Quinton Carter - FS - 6'1" 200: I love the intensity this guy plays with. He's a big time hitter, a ballhawking safety who loves to mix it up in run support. He's got 4 INT's this year, and 85 tackles. A very active player with a nice combination of size and speed.
    2010 Stats: 85 Total Tackles, 2.5 TFL, 4 INT

Travis Lewis - OLB - 6'2" 235: He is another guy who really flies around and is active in both phases of defense. He's a solid tackler, and he's the vocal leader of the Oklahoma D. He definitely has room to add some weight on his frame, so he may have potential as a Jack ILB in a 3-4.
    2010 Stats: 93 Total Tackles, 5.5 TFL, 1.5 Sacks, 2 INT,

    Nebraska Prospects:

Prince Amukamara - CB - 6'0 200: I actually think this guy will turn out to be the next great CB, and the best CB in this draft. When I watch him, I think of Darrelle Revis at Pitt. He's a shutdown corner, and people simply don't like to challenge him. He's also a very good tackler, he's always coming up to assist in run support.
    2010 Stats: 50 Total Tackles, 1 TFL, 1 Sack, 0 INT

Jared Crick - DT - 6'4" 290: Crick has definitely had a down year for all the expectations people had for him coming in to 2010. A lot of people thought that he would really blossom with Suh moving on to the NFL. He's had a solid year, but I think people expected a bit more from him, despite having an above average year in any form. If we got Crick, I'd like to put some weight on him, maybe 15-20 pounds so he could hold up.
    2010 Stats: 60 Total Tackles, 14 TFL, 7.5 Sacks, 1 FF,

These are the main guys I will key on. If you guys have some others you want to mention, go ahead. I'll be updating this thread for those who aren't able to watch the game tonight.

Jared Crick with a shoestring tackle on Landry Jones on 4th down for the sack.

Next play Roy Helu, Jr. with a big run, made Quinton Carter look slow.

That kick was pretty amazing. The side view did it justice, honestly would have been good from 70 yards. That was ridiculous.

So, 7.5 sacks and 14 tfl is a down year, huh? That's fairley impressive.

Considering the expectations for him this year. Many were saying the Cornhuskers wouldn't miss Suh too much, and Suh himself even said he thought Crick could be just as dynamic as he was. You're right, that's a good year, but a lot of people were expecting more from him, and he hasn't matched his numbers from last year.

Quentin Carter simply does not look good today. I don't know if he's got some injury, but he looks a noticeable amount slower than his usual self. I wouldn't have expected that on this field.

Travis Lewis just had a huge interception in the endzone. It was more of a gift than anything, but it's a huge play from a big time player.

That's interesting that people would expect him to do what Suh did. Suh was the most dominant D-lineman I've seen in college since Warren Sapp.

I haven't honestly watched him much. How do you think he compares to Watt?

I really like Nebraska's Jared Crick, and already at 6'6"-285, he is going to get bigger and stronger...he will go somewhere in the second round, and I bet he cracks the top 50.

Quinton Carter looked like he had some decent range, but as a Jr will likely return to OU, as a majority of their Jr's seem to do.

Beal looks really squatty, and I bet he is closer to 6'2" than the listed 6'3" he is now.

...and in another game, I still say Oregon's Casey Matthews is the best LB I have watched in college football this season. His instincts are just off the charts, and he is insanely intense....and would be a great fit for a 3-4 defense, IMO.

You might be on to something Mindfield, and if Casey follows his brother's "diet" plan he should be up around 250 by the time the regular season starts next year.

Say what you want, Matthews is the real deal. He is so smart, and his recognition/diagnose skills are just amazing...he absolutely destroyed the OSU QB on the first play of the game on a delayed blitz, a thing of beauty.

He is going to rise in the draft, just like his brother did.

Nebraskas TE Mike McNeill looks like a WR. How is he as a blocker?
