Can still get
Ras Downing, Jimmy Smith, Curtis Brown with one of the second round picks, and Denver would be stupid to let Champ BAiley go, they will put the franchise tag on him at the least. Would not draft Peterson that high with all the needs we need on the front seven of the defense, trade down and acquire more picks, and draft Von Miller, yes Von Miller, because Ayers is not a proven commodity as a pass rusher, you need help opposite Dumerville. You get a good pass rush, rotate all three players, get sustained pass rush, and all the other problems with the defense will look minimal.Last edited by Ohenhen12345; 12-25-2010, 08:52 AM. -
Washington Redskins switched to 3-4 this year and they rank near bottom. With 4-3 they ranked top 5 year before. 3-4 sounds good as long as it works and people who make it work.Leave a comment:

All you have to do is go back to 2008, when the Broncos ran the 4-3 to understand they can't play that defense any better than they are playing the 3-4 now.
How soon we forget how bad that defense was, and although Ayers was not a part of that defense, Dumvervil was.
The players we have now are 3-4 players or nothing, period.
Robert Ayers is 6'3"-274, and Elvis Dumervil is 5'11"-257...those are not 4-3 d-linemen, and in a move to a 4-3, neither would pass for consistent starters, yet both are sutiable as 3-4 OLB's, and that is based on their play.
At 274, Ayers is a load as an OLB, as a 4-3 DE, he is an undersized role player at best.
So you would have your best and biggest impact player in Dumervil reduced to a part time player, and in that case, Ayers may not even make it out TC next summer, as he has shown excatly NOTHING as a down lineman trying to get off blocks. Last week, he looked like he was super-glued to the OT when he did play down.
In a move back to a 4-3, only Justin Bannan and Marcus Thomas would be good fits on the d-line. You can just let Vickerson walk in FA at that point, as obviously, Tennessee didn't want him for their 4-3.
Jamal Williams is obviously useless in a 4-3.
At LB, Mario Haggan might be able to pass for a year or so as a SAM or a MIKE LB, and Wesley Woodyard is a natural WILL LB, and while DJ Williams could be moved to WILL, he was terrible there in 2008, and he would now be three years older, so I don't know how some would be willing to count on him.
Mays is a better fit in a 3-4, even though he came from a 4-3 team, but again, you got him Philly, a that traded him to us for nothing, so obviously, they didn't value him. In a 3-4, he fits as a decent backup, but I am not sure he makes the team in a 4-3.
Even DJ Williams has been better in the 3-4, although I would cut him after the season ends anyway, as he is an extremely over-rated player that has disappointed Bronco fans too many times, so he needs to go in either case.
Great coaching and management of the team is all about putting the players you have in the best positions to succeed, and this group of players is not well suited to the 4-3 defense at all.
But again, if you want to blow it up, and completely overhaul the front seven because you believe the 4-3 is the answer down the road, I don't have an argument against that, as our defense and the players we currently have pretty much suck anyway.
For me, Dumervil is the only player worth keeping for the long term, but I am not sure Bowlen is going to want to pay him $50 mil to be a designated pass rusher as a rotational DE.Last edited by MindField; 12-25-2010, 07:07 AM.Leave a comment:

Dude u can't be seriously thinking bout drafting a de if we go to a 4-3. You got two great ones on the edge put hansworth in the middle and u draft a dt in the 2nd. U have to get secondary help. I know u wanna bs urself and say champ will stay and ur full of ****. He is gone and cox is in deep ****. Patrick peterson is the best cb prospect sense champ u can't pass on that. U draft mlb with the pick u get from champ or orton. Look I just call it as I see it.Leave a comment:

This deffense needs to go back to a 4-3 ayers is a DE and Doom is a DE too. we could have DJ and Hagan At outside lbs and mays at inside lb. we could get a 2 2nds for champ and orton maybe even a first for champ and trade for haynsworth. I know lugadge but he is an animal and he likes the 3 technique and i think he will play like the animal he is. put thomas in or williams and your set at dline.you need corner which is what you draft with the 2nd overal. Patrick Peterson from lsu. Now your average deffense at worst see my point. Any oppinions guys. Thanks
Sturdvant
Greg Jones
Mathews
are options through the draft
My dream 43 draft would be
trade down acquire a 2nd and 4th
draft
1 Von Miller DE Texas A&M
2. Greg Sturdivant MLB
2. Jurrel Casey DT USC
2. Best FS available
3.Lawrence Wilson OLB Uconn
Cut Williams, Thomas, Fields Mcbean, Mays
Sign Haynewsorth, Chad Greenway
Depth Chart
DE- Dumerville, Von Miller, Robert Ayers
DT- Haynewsorth, Casey, Bannan, Vickerson
OLB- Lawrence Wilson, DJ Williams, Chad Greenway
MLB- Studviant, HagginsLast edited by Ohenhen12345; 12-22-2010, 09:01 AM.Leave a comment:

depends on the system you guys. there are many different 4-3 defenses we could play. we could play one similar to the colts where the de's are smaller 260-250 or we could play one that is similar to the rams where the de's are larger 290-280. but in general 280-270 is what you range for in 4-3 de's. you got to remember weight isnt everything. there are some guys who can bench and squat more then dt's at de but only weigh 260. though the combine and their personal workouts are important, they aren't everything. its the explosivness, motor, and football skills that really matter. its great to have talent, but if you dont have work ethic it means nothing, especially in the nfl where everyone's good or better (great). :thumb:Leave a comment:

I dont know why anyone doesnt concedure having Dumervil as SLB, Williams at WLB (like he used to play) and a combonation of Mays and Haggan playing MLB. We could play a 4-3 under defense for the majority of the time and still have 5 guys going after the QB with dummervil lined up on the line blitzing the majority of the time. Dummervil is fine takling players in space due to his speed. Its the taking on blockers that makes DOOM so bad against the run. This is what makes the most sense to me if we do switch to a 4-3 (something i'm not completely sold on yet).
RLB - (playing on the line) Dummervil
RDE - Marcus Thomas/possibly draft pick
RDT - Justin Bannan/possibly draft pick
LDT - Kevin Vickerson/possibly free agent
LDE - Ayers
MLB - Mays/Haggan
WLB - Williams
Just an idea guysLeave a comment:

How is Ayers not a 4-3 DE? Where do you get this rubbish? He was drafted out of college with a skillset most resemblant of a LDE.
Doom isn't a 4-3 nor a 3-4 player, he's a push rusher plain and simple. He had 25.5 sacks in his first 3 years, playing in the 4-3.
Regardless, if we can land a premium nose tackle in FA or a nose shoots up draft boards insanely high and we nab him, then we stay int he 3-4. If we can't land a good nose, we'll be resigned to changing. The 4-3 is losing it's popularity so there'll be more 4-3 players on the market and available in the draft.Leave a comment:

Its going to depend on who we get as our coach. I dont mind either scheme as long as the d plays good.Leave a comment:

Everyone goes hybrid these days anyway, don't they, depending on who they are playing and what down/yardage it is.....
Doom can play either, and so can Ayers.Leave a comment:

If they go back to a 4-3 they
better pick a good MLB out of the draft early because this draft isn't deep on them.
Denver has the personel to play 4-3 and I would like to see them play 4-3 and 3-4 both depending on the situation. DJ is a much better OLB in a 4-3 than ILB in a 3-4. Our defense needs to be less predictable and need Depth badly!!!:thumb:
The new coaches will have to decide all that!Leave a comment:

Why do people keep saying Dumervil can't play 4-3 de? The guy played de for the first three years and was pretty good at it if I remember correctly (12 sacks one year). And besides, the guy played with his hands down in 3-4 anyways. You mean to tell me he's such a force in pass protection that we can't move him? Give me a break. And if the issue is Doom against the run, Mathis and Freeney aren't very good against the run, same with Jared Allen as well. But I guess those guys should stick to 3-4 lb right?Leave a comment:
