  • Cameron Heyward's performance

Do you think our chances of drafting Cameron Heyward in the 2nd round went out the window with his performance last night?

I was personally hoping that Heyward would slide into the second round and we would take him to compliment our first round pick (Nick Fairly). I know it is early and if he performs well on pro-day/combine he could be back in the top 20-25 anyway.

Do you think we "should" package something to get back into the late first round to draft to grab him? Or is there another pass rushing DE that we should take in the second round that can help us immediately.

It could be why Denver is looking for a 2nd with Orton, so they could move back in first round and still have a 2nd to play with.

We could draft Fairley/Watt and then Heyward/Crick.

If we stay in the 3-4, why not draft 2 bookend 3-4 DEs?

Or, just take one.... Hope we grab the "right" one, and then move on to LB and SAFETY?

      Decisions...
This is why MUG has convinced me MUG might be worthy of our #1 pick, although I would prefer we trade back (5-9 range)... Get ane xtra 2nd and Watt. Trade Orton for a #2. This gives us FOUR second round selections... Easily could turn 2 of those into an extra 1st, or just grab 4 players in the 2nd round. After all, we need all the help/depth/youth we can get, right?

He was never gonna get out of the 1st anyways, with so many teams going 3-4 these days they will be looking for a 5 tech.

He reminds me alot of Vernon Gholsten in the fact that he is just average with spurts of greatness throughout his career, then in the final game of his career he is an unstoppable force, his draft stock shoots up, and he will workout well also. Believe me I've watched every Buckeyes game this year, not saying he won't be good, but he won't be as good as the top 20 pick he will warrant.

Good comparison to Gholsten - I liked him in the 2nd, don't like him that much in the first. I would really like us to take a pass rusher in the second round (if we go with Fairly in the first). Maybe we hope for Crick, Jordan, or Beal to fall to us with one of our 2nd round picks. The Defensive line needs to be the priority.

If we re-up Vickerson (28) and Thomas (25), if we don't cut Mcbean (27), and we draft 2 DL with our first 3 picks this draft.... IN THEORY, our DL of the future (next 3-5 years) should be set in stone, right?

Vickers, Thomas, Mcbean plus 2 draft picks = 5 DL. Add a vet NT (Williams or Fields), and there you go... All we have to do is eventually find the future NT to plug in with the rest of the aformentioned 20-something yr-old DLs.

This is why i think it's important... NAH.... imperative that we go all out and draft 2 DL early (as long as they fit BPA as well). Let the unit mature together.

We would basically have our OL & DL set in stone. ALL YOUNG too!

I am also convinced we need two DL with our first 3 picks - I would like someone like Sione Fua in the 3rd as well to develop into that NT replacement. Take a safety with our other top 3 pick and maybe a ILB with the Orton pick (probably a 3rd) and we should have the makings of a great young defense.

You would be better off replacing McBean with a Large bowl of jello, if you plan on keeping him. He's as useless as teets on a rooster.

Your plan is fine but you still may need to bring in a DL from FA.

Even better (replacing Mcbean with a free agent). I'm all for it.

                    Jason Hatcher comes to mind!

Evry mock I've read has heyward as a mid 2nd after crick so I don't know y u say he was never gonna make it out the 1st unless u know somethin scout don't know. Yesterday may have made him an early 2nd b4 crick but I definately don't see him as a top 20 pick

The guy looks amazing on some plays then average/bad on others. Like he takes plays off. I only watched the orange bowl game so I'm not sure if that's accurate or not but he definitely took plays off during that bowl game.

Anyone have more inside info on that?

I kept thinking that he must have been hurt... they showed him on the sideline so many times. He was a beast when he was in. Triple-teamed at times - that would allow DOOM or Ayers plenty of opportunities: )

                            I agree and disagree.

Agreed that Heyward was never getting out of the first round. Baltimore and Pittsburgh towards the end of the frame would snatch him if he was still around. I think the earliest he can go is the middle of the round to San Diego barring a Dallas reach.

Disagree on his inconsistency. He's been a superb run defender his entire career, and he was stellar again this season. His pass rush is inconsistent. That's what makes him an ideal 34 DE though, his skillset fits that perfectly. I think he's probably remained status quo for 34 defenses, but maybe he's been jumped by more dynamic players in Fairley and Watt. I do think 43 teams will sour on him a bit though after not displaying enough pass rush explosion and growth this year. That's the only area I see his value diminish though. As a 34 DE, I think he's worth a 15-20 selection. He'll be solid but not spectacular. Ty Warren is about right in comparison.

I want no part of Cameron Heyward till at least the 3 round... They guy screams a player that sucks his entire career until his contract season, where he suddenly tears it up.

He takes more than 5 plays off a game, and is absolutely terrible vs. the run... No thank you.

I'd rather have Cameron Jordan or Jared Crick.
