Could you imagine if we picked up Kenny Tate in the 2nd and Robert Sands in the 3rd? We could have Sands at 6'4/6'5 playing FS and Tate at 6'4 playing SS. Now that would be terrifying for any reciever trying to go over the middle

Haha I literally thought of this just yesterday. Both are versatile players who can play both the pass and run effectively. Both could probably play either safety spot. Considering we have so many question marks at the position I want at least one good safety in the draft and two would be good. I would be thrilled with this combo.Go Broncos!!!:thumb:

They are really going to be at a disadvantage in the deep passing game if he can't turn and cover
So for that reason, I don't really want either Kenny Tate or Robert SandsHE>i

I think future great FS are going to be big CBs who are just a tad to stiff in the hips to run with the Lloyds of the world.I need more Oline, please and thank you

Kenny Tate and Robert Sands, after watching them extensively, are really different guys.
Kenny Tate is a more natural athlete. He's got the hips to really be effective in man coverage as a safety. In three separate games that I had the opportunity to watch, they even lined him up at CB and put him on #1 WR's. He's got the ability to drop into deep coverage, or come up and put him in man. He's raw, but when I watched him his technique it was pretty clean. He's a big hitter, and he's got that rare versatility to be able to blitz effectively and also muscle his way through blocks. I'll look forward to see what time he runs in the 40. I've heard people predict a 4.45 and others say more towards 4.55.
Robert Sands is more of a centerfield type. He's not going to really be effective in man because he, unlike Tate, sort of shows his 6'5" frame while in press coverage. He's not as athletic, but he really does have some great instincts. In the centerfield role, he does a crazy good job of breaking on the ball, he's usually getting to the receiver right as it is getting there, and he does a really good job of separating the receiver from the ball. I don't believe he is worth a 2nd rounder considering the other prospects in this draft and also the concerns with his coverage skills.
I think Tate is a more balanced player but with superior athletic traits. Sands is more of a heady guy with natural instincts and he diagnoses plays probably better than Tate. I don't think either is a bad option, but I wouldn't be huge on having them both in a defensive backfield. Tate is my first option, though.sigpic
