Williams is a free agent. Should we go after him? I think he and Moreno would be an excellent duo here. I could definitely see us get him if we hire John Fox

Absolutely. We need another back to pair with Knowshon, and if he comes with a reasonable contract, DeAngelo would be a great match.sigpic
I think Ben Tate will be the best back taken in the 2010 draft. (5/3/10)

Can't believe you guys would seriously want to spend 30MM on a RB with so many needs on defense lol Its like spending the #12 pick on Moreno with Orakpo sitting there.
If you vote yes for this, please stop crying about DL in the future.

We have no big contracts on this team. We can afford him at the number 2 pick. Even without a rookie scale.Denver Broncos GM

Apparently, I don't keep to keep any money that's left over, so I tend to want to spend it every time a great player is available.

But you can't necessarily improve your team by spending money on free agents (even on defense). A lot of free agents are there because their team allowed them to become free agents.
When a good one becomes available, one that could improve your team, you have to take notice.
For example, the Broncos need more great pass rushers. But that doesn't mean there are any available. Pass rushers tend to be so important that they are rarely to be found (unless they are old or otherwise have baggage).
Williams is an example of a player where the timing could be perfect to come in and join Fox. And a lot of great teams have and/or need two running backs.
And -- a strong running game would help the D a lot. Get things back to the T. Davis days.
I agree -- draft defense this year. And bring in help however. But a good free agent signing for the OL or RB corps wouldn't hurt. Also TE. (WR and QB are an embarrassment of riches now -- no need to do anything there).

Just being a realist, giving a RB a big contract will limit our ability to fill a need on D. I would much rather see us spend that money going after an elite defensive guy like Ngata, Cofield, Johnson, or Mebane.
Of course we will have to see who actually hits FA, but if given a choice I would rather spend almost anywhere but RB as it has been proven you can find a guy in round 3+ who can get the job done.
Last point is, next years draft class should be loaded with RB talent and a big contract to a 28 year old RB just does not seem wise, I like RBs with at least 4 years left before they hit 30. Draft a guy next year if we need to, but I do not see the need now when we are talking about a committee.
