From what we've learned from virtually every draft, is that a QB always skyrockets his value because of lack of elite QB talent. Happens every year. Ryan Leaf, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Akili Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington, Alex Smith, JaMarcus Russell, etc....

IMO, a QB is Carolina's least of worries. They have Claussen and they have Matt Moore. Moore has shown flashes that he can be a leader. Claussen, well he had a typical rookie year. Give him better targets and then we'll see how well he plays. I just hope a OT skyrockets his value like that Baylor kid did, it'd be nice to see Carolina go OT 1st overall instead. Nate Solder, I'm looking at you.

This maybe just me but no WR is worth the top pick....and while Carolina is in "rebuilding" mode I think they go to the trenches...Thant being said if Rivera wants to build the Defense with the first pick Fairley/ Bowers are the obvious choices "BUT" the offensive line was ranked 30th in the leauge beating out only Arizona and the Chicago Bears. For this reason only I think they go whomever they believe the best LT prospect is and kick Gross to RT. This will give them bookend tackles and something to build on.

If the panthers do take Fairley our choice is obvious as well Marcel Dareus is your prototypical 34 DE, A run stoping monster which we surley lack.

I find it funny how people think Carolina will pass on fairley due to character concerns, but will take AJ green. AJ green was suspend in the NCAA for selling his autographed jersey. Fairley has never been suspended. As per the draft pick, it's hard to say who we will draft or if we were to trade down. As of now the most versatile player is fairley, already pllays the 4-3 and has the size of 3-4 end, kind of like Seymour. If you don't think he can transition to a 3-4 you dont know that, and are just speculating. Now there has never been a WR taken 1st overall, I believe Calvin Johnson was 2nd, so if they think Green is better than Calvin take him. Now as for this less than stellar QB class there is always one guy who skyrockets his stock in the offseason, and Gabbert could be that guy. It was baffling watching him come out this year, because what the analysts thought would happen was luck 1st this year, and Gabbert gets an extra year and is the number 1 next year or a high draft pick.

For the sake of argument, let's just say CAR takes an offensive player with their first pick. This leaves DEN with the pick of the litter on defense.

Obviously, Elway-Xanders will have the biggest say who are #1 pick will ultimately be... But I have to believe the new HC might have some imput.

ESPECIALLY a candidate like Fox. I mean, if we hire FOX the thinking goes like this:

1- Tebow is our future. We need to develop the kid slowly. The best way to do this is to have a solid defense and a quality rushing attack. Even if Tebow was Brady, it would be hard winning games when we're allowing 30+ points a game. Fox would instantly turn the defense around, and that would definitely help Tebow (and the offense).

2- Biggest name of the group. Instant credibility and relevance. Yous ee with the way Elway-Ellis-Xanders are talking about transparency (in other words marketing & promoting the brand). Fox would create a buzz.

3- You know what you're getting. Has done it before Is a known commodity. If you hire Fox, you probably keep Mccoy. If you hire an offensive coach, then you still need to address the other side of the ball.

Koetter is well-respected, and would be the best fit for Tebow offensively. Dennison is good friend's with Elway (this could either work for or against him).

ANYWAY... Predict our 1st pick based on who we hire as a HC.

Looking back to the 2002 draft (not a great one for CAR), I notice that Fox's first draft pick, #2 (coincidence) was Julius Peppers. Would this suggest we draft Bowers? He is being compared to JP? Or, b/c we have our pass-rusher (Elvis).... We go in another direction?

ALSO.... How much control did FOX have in CAR? SOme draft picks were awful (Keary Colbert in the 1st round)?

This thread might be useless. Perhaps HC will have zero input. Perchance it wont matter anyway, b/c we have a pass-rusher, so FOX will look for best lineman- Fairlet.

Dennison wont have much say. This is another Failey.

Koetter will understand defense needs all the attention... Fairley again.

Isn't Bowers a DE? They really don't need another DE, DT is probably higher on their list. But if they want to fix their offense AJ Green probably would help.

IMO- Drew Bledsoe, Derek Anderson are players close in talent (I'd think)

Locker from what I've read today and a lil bit in the past is he excels outside the pocket and has a great deal of intangibles, but basically is a poopsicle inside the pocket. I honestly haven't see him much myself (not much interest for me in watchin Washington. But he sounds kinda like a Plummer type to me.

Gabbert I've heard stuff all over the place. Some say he has a great chance to be amazing and all that, and he was carrying the Mizzo offense. I personally am not sold on him, though partially its cuz I hadn't heard of him at all until late this season (only watched Mizzo play Ok) Dunno what to think really

Admittedly I haven't watched as much college this year as in years past, but personally I am very glad we got a QB, I like our chances with Tebow over this bunch.
The marble statue better hope he has some good OT's. His accuracy isnt horrible but he doesnt move in the pocket well. Of the players available he is the most poised QB but he cant handle players in the backfield.

If Foles or Luck came out we maybe lucky. Foles may not have the best arm but he iis the best leader and has good accuracy. He has an incredible ability to lead his team from behind something hes done more then any QB.

Really besides those 2 I am not high on any QB. Mallett is just the one I think has the best shot.

I just dont see any reason for Carolina to pass on Fairley.

Like I said if I had to, but I dont see a single QB that I really think is a franchise QB, all of them just have to many problems.

Nick Foles went back to school with Luck with a damaged Devlin this draft became a wasteland

Yeah, I like him mostly for the person he is and the intangibles he brings to the table, but with a good year sitting behind a QB and refining his accuracy, he could be a solid starter in the league.

Clausen is better than any of the QBs you can get in the first round bar Locker, but Carolina aren't going to change QBs just yet and their biggest need is at DT regardless.

    ...

I guess you're right. It's just I really dislike Gabbert as a prospect and have some bias towards Locker. But yeah, it does help
