  • So What Does Carolina Do? Then What Happens To Us..

Carolina has a number of options.......of course, some of us will say one of their best and most predominant ones is to "lose"......I digress.

Sure, they are in the 2011 Draft Driver's Seat. But not having a 2nd round pick is an issue, because that puts a whole loot of stock on their one and only pick in the first 2 rounds. And not knowing how they will fare in FA, a place that they better be primed up for, they do have to think over their options with a great deal of discussion.

Taking Fairley is the best bet, based on "the fans", and if you believe that Rivera will want to continue in his Defensive ways. Fairley looks like a stud, and nothing like anchoring your dline with a long term superman. There is always a chance that dliners develop slower than what is forecast, but I believe this guy has Suh like adaptability to the NFL.

But Rivera already noted the need to fix the O.......32nd in the NFL (dead last!) with 12. something points per game. That's horrendous! Even the Steelers and the Ravens would not be up to the task of holding opponents down to less than 12 points per game......in their banner years. Of course Luck is gone, so the QB options are not as exciting as Carolina would wish. Do they put some confidence in Clausen, even though he did little to verify his future talent? More likely, they will show their cards in FA, if a decent QB is out there. With no trades until the CBA is settled, it's FA or Draft. But lets be clear, their O is in a shambles, and Nick Fairley (and no 2nd pick) don't ensure much of anything in that regard.

Again the CBA and FA are critical factors in the 2011 offseason, as it is for all teams.....but right now I believe the best move for the Panthers is to trade down. This team is last in O, and 18th or so in D.......they need lots of help, and they only pick once in the first 64. How do you reinvent yourself, other than good coaching and leadership, with few quality picks. If I were them, I'd look for someone who is hungry, maybe for Fairley (not good for us if that's who we want), and who will offer a solid one and two, maybe more!!!! Sure, I like a stud in my fold, but if a team does their personnel homework, they can acquire two studs (or more) with a smart trade down. Why not nail down a high level D and O player, in their first 2 picks? Then they have options at pick #65.

Problem is, if they trade down, we may lose Fairley, as mentioned, unless we are the team they trade down to.......we have 2 second rounders right now. Not sure I'd pay that price for #1. They could be bluffing. Regardless......lets see whose stock rises and falls. There are some really nice dliners ready for the taking. I wouldn't mind trading down...not too far, to get another 2nd rounder. We could score big with a dliner and a host of 2nd rounders. This could be the draft that propels us into a different plateau. I don't like to give Belichick all the accolades, because in fact he has not always been successful in the draft......but look at the makeover he has done with all those 2nd rounders. It appears the Pats will be dominant until Brady slows down, given that all those young men are learning and growing each and every game.

So.......Fairley may be available to us, pending a lot of scenarios......the Panthers take on O stud or trade down (which may mean Fairley is available or gets picked up in the process). OR.....we may trade down with Fairley sitting at our doorstep. Typically however, with the current Agreement in place, teams look for guarantees, and that means going with as sure a thing as possible in those first 10 picks or so. Too much guaranteed money to take a chance.

Regardless, if I'm Carolina, trading down may be the fastest way to turn this team around.

    Stay tuned!

Their GM doesn't like character concerns, I'm calling AJ Green/DaQuan Bowers going number 1.

Carolina is NOT going to be ABLE to trade down any more than we are. NOBODY is going to want to pay the price.

Their pick is worth 3000 points, ours is worth 2600. The tenth pick is only worth 1300, while the 17th pick is worth a measly 950! You'd have to trade your entire draft plus next year's #1 and possibly a player to move up that high, and for what?

With Luck out of the draft there's NO player who's worth trading 3 or more picks for! (Mallett? Locker? No way!) Any other QB a team wants can probably be had at #4 or later. And NO defensive player is worth trading up that high for.

I can't remember the last time a team traded into the top 10 to grab a defensive player and certainly NOT the top 5, let alone the top pick.

So, all these fans who keep saying "we should trade down and stockpile picks" -- forget it! Everybody thinks that every year, but you never see it happen.

Ron Rivera stated the Panthers would be keeping the 4-3 defense, so we have to hope they view Bowers as the next Julius Peppers

The GM likes high character, so i'm hoping that means they don't take Fairley and he's available to us at #2.

          Probably Green, Bowers, or Fairley.

Just because it has never happened in your recollection doesn't mean anything. Plus, some team may want Fairley.....BAD!!!

Also, the traditional draft chart isn't carved in stone.

In any event, Carolina needs a guaranteed stud, with only one pick in the first 2 rounds, and they are sadly lacking on O, and they need a lot of help. If they could trade down, they should, based on which O weapons are there (and not there)! They need picks!!!

In the end, we'll end up with a quality dliner, regardless. And never be surprised by the stock "rise and fall", that occurs every year. It's almost a given that a few guys will separate themselves from the pack, once all the t's are crossed and i's dotted.

Another thing to keep in mind is that by the time we or anyone sign the rookies to contract a new rookie cap may be in place. If a team is confident in that happening it may help the trade down cause.

I am worried the amount of WR's i the draft makes them think twice about Greens worth

I also think the need of a DE will vanish when they take care of FA

That leaves me with one other option Gabbert we need his stock to sky rocket so high that theyld be foolish not to pick him at #1.

If not lets start fighting electricity with electricity draft Watt so we can shock the chargers. Whether this means dropping back or not I want Watt at this point.

Ok so if every Broncos fan goes across every NFL board and pumps Gabbert up, and then we get press credentials too, maybe the Panthers take him.

                    ^^^

lol, Gabbert isn't going number one overall. What's sports coming to? ESPN is like a new world sports nazi spreading their senseless propaganda about prospects and brainwashing everyone.

Clausen is better than any of the QBs you can get in the first round bar Locker, but Carolina aren't going to change QBs just yet and their biggest need is at DT regardless.

Hey if thats true why knock it he wouldnt be the first prospect they hyped up and it only works in our favor. Even if they dont take him it can maybe force some desperate coach into trading up to get him. Either way its a win for us.

I guess you're right. It's just I really dislike Gabbert as a prospect and have some bias towards Locker. But yeah, it does help

Sorry, not high on Locker. Like him as a person (from what I've read) but don't think he'll be a good NFL QB.

Yeah, I like him mostly for the person he is and the intangibles he brings to the table, but with a good year sitting behind a QB and refining his accuracy, he could be a solid starter in the league.

If I had to choose 1 of the QB's ild have to say Mallett. He has a lot of issues but he seems the most likely to succeed.
