I feel like he's good if he's getting 20-30 snaps a game. Anymore and your effed.

Don't have any stats to back that up though, just kind of what I'm feeling.

Would not doubt it but it was still the highlight of the season when he threw the center into the QB. To me Bannan wasnt even really a factor on the line till he realized he might actually lose his job next year and even then he let to many RB's run by him and allowed the LB on his side to be double teamed

Please no 4-3 discussion I am believing we are going to 3-4 because Dennison seems to want to keep it and is our current front runner

I have been looking at the NT's this year and am not sold the elite talent needed at NT is there.

Jerrell Powe maybe the best NT in the draft however because his coach is miss using him as a gap shooter this year his performance has been lack luster. Still I question how elite he really is.

Phil Taylor is a big huge guy with fairly good production even ignoring the injuries that made his weight a bit unstable before this year he is still missing that wow factor

Fua to me is the Cameron Jordan of NT's he is a bit undervalued and undersized and despite having the best technique isnt convincingly better with the production he has. He would be elite if he was bigger but I question the amount of weight we can set on his frame he might be better as DE

None of these guys compare to Short a little known NT prospect from Purdue who as a sophmore is stunning. He has the same wow factor BJ Raji had as he dominates the line in almost every game. He doesnt have a lot of talent around him but as a NT has made players around him better. He was the 2nd highest recruited potential NT after Kerry Murphy who is forced to backup an unimpressive Champman because Saban values his upper classmen

I recommend we get a band aide at NT. This means Soliai or Ngata in FA, I hate to see Williams go because he has been amazing despite everything but he doesnt have much fuel left and we need to think about the best path to the future. This and-aide would keep the NT spot for 3 or 4 years depending on when Short is signed and ready to start. This gives us less concerns in the draft and puts off drafting one of the hardest positions in football for 1 or 2 more years. I know this may have an impact on rebuilding but it will help make the years after more exciting.
ok fields is already a free agent end you wanna cut j-wall so we have zero NT's. I say we take fairley at #2 cause he is obvouisly worth it cause he dominated the SEC more the suh did last year in nebraska. then we take powell to rotate with williams and we resign fields. with fairley in the lineup he automatically make williams and bannan better and same goes for doom once he is back he makes that whole front 7 better
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

So let me get this straight, you want us to get a band aid NT? My definition of a "band aid" player is someone that can perform decent at a position and you have an "elite" prospect/player waiting in the wings... Jamal Williams is exactly that... to a T. He performed quite well especially towards the end of the season. He has one year on his contract, so we have this year and next year to find us a permanent replacement for him.

To cut him as you suggest, would be the stupidest move our front office could do.

I can agree with this I want to keep Williams especially how he played but we have a major issue considering a lot of NT take longer to develop then other players weld need someone who can be here for a few years longer then Williams possibly if we get Short we might only need him 3 maybe 4 years. I suppose we can wait till next year to get someone who could do this but I really like the NT FA this year they are young enough we can develop someone who can be a franchise player.

I have fought on these boards to keep JW all year but with so few NT in this draft and none of them as true stand outs I cant honestly say I want to draft a replacement for him yet and hes hitting an age most NT are done by. If we can get a fair replacement then cutting him isnt out of the question, but otherwise 1 more year under him still acts as a band-aid just one that is losing its adhesive from being old and peeled on an off to much.

              do you mean powe?
We still have Louis Leonard lol

Its not Franklin or Soliai are bad NT's and rarely do you cut someone before you can find a replacement. Fields and Leonard and even Thomas can work in a gap 1 so its not like we are completely without NT nless we switch to a gap 2 then not even Fields will work. Vickerson can to if he gains some weight, but Bannan I prefer to minimize this season if we can despite his salary.
