  • Two Mocks one for each defense

Ok so with us not knowing if we stay in the 3-4 or switch to the 4-3 we really and truly can’t analyze what we will do, but we all like to try and I am no different.

Ok so I am doing a mock for both and I realize that not everything is likely to happen so bear with me I am going to just highlight the signings and free agents because I am not going that in depth to it.

Resign Bailey – let him switch to safety to prolong his career and pay him what he is worth.

Resign Woodyard – if nothing else he has been pivotal on our special teams and a good back up

Sign M. Bush – he is the perfect compliment to Moreno, although I think he may want to go somewhere where he can be the premier back.

Sign Asomugha- with Bailey switching to Safety we need a replacement and I would much rather concentrate on the front seven in the draft.

Trade Orton to Minn for their 2nd rounder this reunites Orton with McDaniels

    Ok so for the 3-4 defense we have pick 2 36 43 46 67 192 196

    Let’s start…..
2 – Nick Fairley DT Auburn – Best player in this draft and a perfect fit for the 3-4 or 4-3 he can and run stopping ability to our line freeing up our linebackers. I feel that Bowers as the best pass rushing end will wind up going to Carolina at 1.

36 – Greg Jones ILB Michigan St. – A great partner for Williams as a ILB good strong against the run and athletic enough to play against the pass.

43 – Tyler Sash SS Iowa – A super smart safety with the ability to come in and contribute right away.

46 – Traded away to Carolina who is without their second rounder gives us their 65th and 97th to get their man

65 - DJ Williams TE Arkansas – A great player with huge value can finally put a stop to our revolving door at TE.

67 –Phil Taylor NT Baylor – Big and Strong maybe not the most polished player but he can definitely come in and contribute right away.

97 –Aaron Williams CB Texas – Tremendous value with this pick here a great corner that can step into the nickel right away.

192 – Johnny Patrick CB Louisville – A little depth for the Corners this guy has great coverage skills and hopefully the chance to learn under Bailey for a few years.

196 – Zach Hurd OG UConn – The best offensive lineman available to add depth to our line.

Ok so now on to if we move back to the 4-3 I add in the Trade of Dumervil since he is overpaid for a situational pass rushing end. So he goes to Miami for their first at 16 but trading away 67th to do so. In this draft I will still have the Carolina trade for our 46th pick so that gives us 2 15 36 43 65 97 192 196

2 – Nick Fairley DT Auburn – No change here like I said he can play in both defenses and is the best player on the board, a no brainer.

15 – Akeem Ayers ILB UCLA – With us moving back to the 4-3 DJ moves back to the OLB positions and Ayers gives us a great ILB for the future.

36 – Stephen Paea DT Oregon St. – All I have to say is strong as an OX our middle of the line will instantly be 100 x better than last year with these two talents.

43 - Davon House CB New Mexico St. - A good skilled corner that can start immdiatley opposite of Asomugha.

65 – Sam Acho DE Texas - A great DE at Texas and can just add depth and challenge for the starting spot this year.

97 – Lavonte David SS Nebraska – A dynamic SS that probably benefited greatly from the tremendous pass rush that Nebraska has, either way another guy who can come in and contribute.

192 – Johnny Patrick CB Louisville – again same as above.

197 – Zach Hurd OG UConn - See above BPA pick.

Ok so what do you think……..

I don't really like mocks with trades, since there's almost a 99.99% chance that it won't happen like that. But I'll work with what I've got.

I dont think Aaron Williams will last untill 97.

I'm not sure Akeem Ayers is a MLB, when I watched him in college this year he was best at rushing the QB (so more like a 4-3 WLB or 3-4 OLB).

I have a problem with taking Greg Jones that high.

I'd rather see more d-line or o-line at 192, especially if we already aquired Asomugha and Williams at CB.

I think Kenny Tate is a better Safety than Sash (although it's apparent Sash is one of the "fan favorites" around theses boards; evident by the numerous threads about him).

Lavonte David was a LB in college, so I don't know if he can play safety in the pros, plus I'm pretty sure he's going back to school.

I dont think Aaron Williams will last untill 97.(possibly but the draft is very unpredictable but he would be a reach if selected before mid to late 3rd round)

I have a problem with taking Greg Jones that high. (You might be the only person in the world with a problem taking him this high first round talent in the second round is a no brainer)

I'd rather see more d-line or o-line at 192, especially if we already aquired Asomugha and Williams at CB. (anticipating the loss of Cox)

I think Kenny Tate is a better Safety than Sash (although it's apparent Sash is one of the "fan favorites" around theses boards; evident by the numerous threads about him). (I agree but think he will be gone)

      (possibly hard to predict)

I really want us to stick to a 3-4 so I pretty much ignored the 4-3 draft. I will say I really like the 3-4 draft though. I agree with ber and don't think Williams falls past the 2nd round. I would also trade Jerell Powe for Phil Taylor and then I love the draft.

I would love to retain Bailey and get Nnamdi, but I just don't think it will be possible to get both of them. I also don't like Bush, he is basically the same player as Knowshon, average speed and decent power. If we get a running back it has to be the speed back ala Sproles.

        Good draft though.

(I agree it would be a miracle to get Nnamdi and Bailey but a guy can dream right? lol and maybe I am just a huge Bush fan I graduated from UofL and watched him play inperson, and wanted desperately to seem him in Orange and Blue in Shanny's zone blocking sheme. I understand what you are saying though)

Agreed, I loved Bush at Louisville, I thought he was going to be the best back in the draft until he broke his leg. I figured he would of been a steal for some team and was very angry when Oakland nabbed him. They didn't utilize him for the longest, and now that they are he is showing his potential.

Love this draft's but just hope the players are there and that Carolina is willing to make the trade! As long a Fairley is included. A front four of:
              Ayers---Paea----Fairley-----Doom ought to be awesome!!!

How bout we sign Alber Haynsworth. This guy is going to have alot to prove and will want to stick it to shanny. Hes better than any lineman in the draft hands down.
Then we sign either Mercades Lewis or Bo scaffie for TE.
Then we draft Nick Fairly at 2

This would be an outstanding offseason for the Broncos alone and would help get our d back to respectability.

Yeah, I'm just not that high on Greg Jones. I only saw 2 Michigan State games, but I frequently saw him getting mowed down in the blocking game (he's still really small for a LB), and he got smoked by a RB on a wheel route for a long TD (plus there were numerous other short passes completed in his area). I know he's fast, but a small/speedy LB better be able to cover becasue he's (more than likely) not going to be a force against the run in the NFL with his size. Plus his stock has slipped and I think he'd be available mid-to-late 2nd round, but that'll probably change when he blows up the combine with his athleticism. So as of right now I don't lie him that soon, but I understand why a lot of other people do.

I just dont know....... we would most definately switch to 4-3 if we get Haynesworth, then I think we would have to lose Doom. I just think Paea is Haynesworth without the additude and high price tag.

Well with John Fox on board we prob are switching to a 4x3 defense. and I think hanysworth is going to want to prove alot of people wrong. His issue was he didnt want to play the NT in the 3x4 and things went down hill from there. D-tackles always take a while to develop, Most the time, my thinking is you get haynsworth, pair him up with fairly, and i would keep dumerville at end. then we can draft linebackers, safetys, and although we prob wont be a top d next year, I think we can get to a middle of the pack with that.

This may all be true but do you really think that keeping Dumervil at end in a 4-3 is truely worth it, we could most likely get a high second for him and I just feel he would be way over paid for a situational pass rushing end.

Maybe its just the name but I like Casey Matthews for ILB.

I agree Fariley has to be the top pick.

Yes I would keep dumerville, he may be expensive but I think we need playmakers. he may be a little of a liability in the run game but hes a playmaker and we are gonna need as many of them as possible, the key for us on D is going to be getting turnovers and getting off the feild on 3rd down. Dumerville can get us off the feild on 3rd down with pressure causing sacks/bad throws/ and stripping of the ball from the QB.
