Got another 1st round mock done, plus with my attempt at the rest of the Broncos picks, could be good and could be bad
I'm attempting to put a Round 2 together, so if I can get that done I'll post it as well
1. Carolina Panthers Select: Blaine Gabbert, QB Missouri
With a great pro day, and being a slightly safer pick than Cam Newton, the Panthers take Gabbert #1 overall. There is a big risk with Gabbert coming from a spread offense, but the Panthers take their chances and hope he works out.
2. Denver Broncos Select: Patrick Peterson, CB LSU
I've been a huge supporter of Marcell Dareus here, but in an effort to not make all my mocks look the same I've decided to draft Patrick Peterson with the #2 overall. Getting Champ under contract is great, but when you have an opportunity to get a great talent like PP7 here, it's more reward than risk.
3. Buffalo Bills Select: Marcell Dareus, DT Alabama
The Bills could get Cam Newton here, but with us passing up Marcell Dareus they see a big man who can help their Defense in a huge way. They pass up Newton and grab Dareus before he falls any further.
4. Cincinnati Bengals Select: Cam Newton, QB Auburn
Cincinnati is a team that will more than likely find themselves in need of a QB and two real threat WRs before long, and with Newton available at #4 it's a no brainer for them. There are the risks and the concerns surrouding Newton, but the Bengals take the chance on him before he falls to another QB needy team.
5. Arizona Cardinals Select: Von Miller, LB Texas A&M
I think the Cardinals are a team that want Patrick Peterson, but with him gone they turn their attention to Von Miller. I've heard that his involvement in this NFL lawsuit could make some teams weary, but putting that aside the kid is a beast, and the Cardinals need a force on Defense.
6. Cleveland Browns Select: AJ Green, WR Georgia
Charlie I know you want another reciever, but I believe that the Browns will take the better WR of Green and Jones, so they grab Green with the 6th overall. I don't follow the Browns that much, but I know they haven't had a realistic #1 since Braylon Edwards left town. The Browns solve this by getting this playmaker, and it gives their potential guy in Colt McCoy somebody to actually throw to.
7. San Francisco 49ers Select: Robert Quinn, DE North Carolina
Another team that wants Gabbert, Newton, or Patrick Peterson, but instead they select Robert Quinn to help out their Defense. Quinn is explosive coming off the edge and I believe is the best pick available for the 49ers right now.
8. Tennessee Titans Select: Nick Fairley, DT Auburn
Fairley is a beast, he's a disrupter, and a force coming off the line. Even though the Titans need a QB, I really don't think even Bud Adams is delusional to reach for Locker, Mallett, or Ponder here (but you never know
), so they grab Fairley while they can.
9. Dallas Cowboys Select: Da'Quan Bowers, DE Clemson
I've mocked Amukamara to the Cowboys in almost all of my mocks, but I went a different route with this pick and pick Da'Quan Bowers 9th overall. There are the knee issues with Bowers, but if he can stay healthy he's a playmaker, and can really help the Cowboys step up their Defense. If not Bowers I don't see how the pick can be anyone but Amukamara.
10. Washington Redskins Select: Prince Amukamara, CB Nebraska
Julio Jones is still available right now, but with Prince Amukamara still free the Redskins go the BPA route and snatch him up. Perhaps WR is a more pressing need, but I think if somehow on the real draft day if he is able to fall, the Redskins won't hesitate to grab him.
11. Houston Texans Select: Aldon Smith, DE Missouri
Another beast coming off of the edge, and I believe his pro day has really helped his draft stock that much more. Smith goes to the Texans with #11 overall, and gives Wade Phillips something to work with as new D-Coordinator.
12. Minnesota Vikings Select: J.J. Watt, DE Wisconsin
The Vikings are a team that needs a QB like crazy, but they don't reach for one and grab J.J. Watt right here. I considered making Julio Jones the pick, but I think DE is a bigger need for the Vikings than WR.
13. Detroit Lions Select: Tyron Smith, OT USC
The Lions need to offer up some protection for their main guy in Stafford, and Smith is the best in the draft.
14. St. Louis Rams Select: Julio Jones, WR Alabama
The Rams are very lucky that Julio Jones falls this far, and they don't hesitate to make him a Ram. It gives Bradford someone to throw to, and at this point they just can't pass on him.
15. Miami Dolphins Select: Mark Ingram, RB Alabama
Dolphins need RB, Mark Ingram is a beast, simple as that.
16. Jacksonville Jaguars Select: Cameron Jordan, DE California
I've read that the Jaguars like Ryan Kerrigan, so I could see this pick being either Jordan or Kerrigan. But I give them Cameron Jordan in this mock, but it could go either way.
17. New England Patriots Select: Akeem Ayers, DE UCLA
As I said in my last mock I don't put too much into these stock Patriot picks, because they always move around. But assuming they don't, I think that a guy like Akeem Ayers could be a guy they look at here, great player coming off the edge.
18. San Diego Chargers Select: Muhammad Wilkerson, DE Temple
There are a bunch of different ways that the Chargers can go here, but I believe they look at Defense and grabe Muhammad Wilkerson right here. Maybe they look at a Torrey Smith as well, but for now I think Wilkerson is a better pick.
19. New York Giants Select: Anthony Costonzo, OT Boston College
The Giants give Eli some protection and draft the big Anthony Costonzo.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select: Ryan Kerrigan, DE Purdue
I've read they like Adrian Clayborn, and as I said in my last mock he could be the pick here as well. For now, I say they draft Ryan Kerrigan, but I believe they'll go DE in the real draft.
21. Kansas City Chiefs Select: Torrey Smith, WR Maryland
I had Phil Taylor here in my last mock, and feel that he could still be the pick, but you can't rule out the Defense either. The Chiefs are in a division with some pretty good WRs, so they draft Torrey Smith to add some Offensive weapons.
22. Indianapolis Colts Select: Derek Sherrod, OT Mississippi
I think that the Colts will go OT here and grab Sherrod, but it could also be Solder or Carimi.
23. Philadelphia Eagles Select: Nate Solder, OT Colorado
Same deal here, I think that the Eagles grab Solder here to offer protection for Michael Vick.
24. New Orleans Saints Select: Cameron Heyward, DT Ohio State
The Saints look at the DTs left, and grab Heyward and are lucky that he's fallen this far.
25. Seattle Seahawks Select: Christian Ponder, QB Florida State
I believe that the Seahawks will go QB here as a replacement for when Hasselbeck inevitably gets hurt and/or retires. If it turns out Whitehurst isn't the guy, they'll have Ponder to come in and take over the Offense, but for now he can sit behind Hasselbeck and learn.
26. Baltimore Ravens Select: Justin Houston, DE Georgia
The Ravens look at the DE prospects that are left, and grab Justin Houston before he can fall to a team like the Jets.
27. Atlanta Falcons Select: Gabe Carimi, OT Wisconsin
I could see the Falcons drafting Jonathan Baldwin here, but assuming they don't they grab Carimi and get the best OT left.
28. New England Patriots Select: Mike Pouncey, G Florida
Again I think they'll move, but if they don't the Patriots draft the versatile Mike Pouncey, and use him where they see fit.
29. Chicago Bears Select: Jonathan Baldwin, WR Pittsburgh
The Bears want an OT with this selection, and I believe they could move up on draft day to grab a Nate Solder or a Gabe Carimi. But for now I give them a real #1 WR in Baldwin, because Hester just doesn't cut it as a WR.
30. New York Jets Select: Jimmy Smith, CB Colorado
Character concerns have never bothered the Jets, so they grab Jimmy Smith before he can fall any farther.
31. Pittsburgh Steelers Select: Phil Taylor, NT Baylor
There are other needs that the Steelers have, but I think that if Phil Taylor really does fall this far the Steelers have to take him. He addresses a need, and I believe will be a great player for years to come.
32. Green Bay Packers Select: Brooks Reed, OLB Arizona
The Packers look to get somebody to help out Clay Matthews, and grab Brooks Reed who in all honesty probably won't be here at 32 on draft day.
