  • Broncos Stack Up on CB's to Battle Pass-Happy League

I'm not sure there is any player worthy of the salary a number two overall pick in the 2011 NFL football draft will make. After watching player interviews after the combine, I was impressed with Patrick Peterson. One interesting thing Peterson said during his interview was that he would be willing to play safety if a team needed. Champ Bailey would also be an option at safety as well. The point I'm trying to make is that in a pass-happy NFL the more shut down corners you have the better. Picture Dawkins moving to SS, Bailey move to FS, P.Peterson, Goody, Cox at CB. Depth will be provided by Mcbath, Thompson, Vaughn. The Broncos are deep at Linebacker with Dumervil's return. Bannan and Williams didn't do the job last year and were dismissed, so look for someone like Thomas to maybe step up in 2011.

Here are my Bronco picks for 2011. I bet it is more accurate than Mcshay's (ESPN)

    1. P.Peterson CB LSU
    2. S.Paea DT OS
    2. M. Austin DT
    3. Delone Carter RB Saracuse (see Attachment)
    4. D.J. Williams TE Ark
    7. Chris Rucker CB/FS Michigan State

I would rather see Syd'quan Thompson and Cassious Vaughn develop at CB.Both players have what it takes to get the job done.Im not sure we are sending the right message drafting a CB with our first pick.I would like to see Peterson matched up against Thompson and Vaughn to see if he is worth a #2 pick before i would make the selection for him at #2.

He looks to be better than all the other CBs in the draft, but really is it that he looks better than a week CB class,or is he just that good. That remains to be seen.

I like the Austin pick in your mock,i would be open to that idea.

Thanks for the input. I like your Pouncey pick, I think he has what it takes to produce early in his career.

But teams like Oakland, Jacksonville, Ravens will continue to run all over the Broncos. softening the team for the play action exposing the CB. No pass rush, the QB can seat in the pocket for 10 secs or more and wait for his recievers come open. Don't take the best DL in the draft, take the best CB and hope a bunch of second rounders pan out, yes that is a great idea, genius.

I just want to point out if we select Peterson at #2 we better trade for Haynesworth with the Redskins and get a DT,this is the only way im open to drafting Patrick Peterson. I really would like to see or DL be addressed in the draft.

                Haynesworth was straight up released.
I hate the Defenseless Receiver rule and the fines. Posted since '07. 2011 rule addition :nono: backhand a fool!

No the redskins kept him, there are two sides one saying his release is right around the corner, and others saying they are keeping him.

You really think bringing in HAYNESWORTH to a defense that is getting younger and more in need of a good veteran leadership is a good idea?
We need elite defensive linemen and we have the chance to get them this year. Paea is not the talent that either Dareus or Fairley are. Austin could be great but if you want to depend on him...that is going to be a problem because of the HUGE bust potential he carries.

you can't say Austin is risky because of bust potential and Dareus and Fairley aren't... that's just stupid. You're investing so much more in Dareus or Fairley that if you're picking them you need to be sure they're you're guy.

Quit being a hater on Dareus and Fairley, they are heads and shoulders above Austin. And thats on field.

Fairley will be an elite pass rusher, and will free up Doom and Ayers.

Dareus will be an elite run stuffer, and will collapse the pocket and force the QB into Doom and Ayers.

So far, Austin has not shown either of those qualities.

Agreed Fairley and Dareus are way better right now, but in terms of potential Marvin Austin is right up there. Austin is faster and quicker than fairly, and just as big as Dareus. According to reports from the senior bowl practices he was unblockable, and that was extremely impressive considering it was his first real football in like a year. That being said potential is just that potential that's why fairley and dareus are top 3 picks and Austin is a second rounder.

Don't get me wrong, Fairley and Dareus are better prospects, and I can admit that, but they're risky picks.

Btw, I'm not a supporter if Austin. Should Denver take a non-DT at 2, I would want Jurrell Casey, Paea, or Nevis.

I get your point.I agree, about getting younger.First of,i would go that route,i was just saying if we traded to the 10 spot,i would go another route.I would rather go with the option of drafting Fairley if we could.
