It's a good year to draft DTs, not so good for safeties.
A big hitting MLB with the wheels to cover the seam receiver in cover 2 is needed if you run a 4-3 D. Not many of those in the draft pool this year outside of Martez Wilson and he had neck surgery; Sturdivant and McCarthy ... maybe.
Unless Buckhalter can play another strong season, Lendale returns from surgery or someone else steps up, Moreno needs some new committee members.
So many needs, so few draft picks. If an agreement is reached between labor and management prior to the draft allowing trades, I have to believe Orton is gone for a pick. It might help."Stultum est timere quod vitare non potes." ~ Publilius Syrus

DT, LB, TE, S
Actually, this list should be a lot longer given our holes...
Perhaps
DT, LB, TE, S, OT, OLine, DLine, CB, LB, RBHate List for 2016-2017 Season: 1. Oakland, 2. New England, 3. Kansas City, 4. Pittsburgh and 5. Houston (yes, Houston....)

I really think we need to take the one of the top DL's with the #2 pick, but is anyone else as nervous as I am about our safety positions?
I've never been impressed with Hill. Dawkins is a gamer, but seems to be getting past his prime. McBath is constantly injured and Bruton is really unproven.
This, to me, will be an area which will need a major makeover.sigpic

BPA, need, 2 year / 2 draft is the deeper thinking.
Need is the elementary thinking.Last edited by marcus_miller; 03-26-2011, 01:08 PM.I hate the Defenseless Receiver rule and the fines. Posted since '07. 2011 rule addition :nono: backhand a fool!

DT, DT, LB, S, DE, TE, RB in that order.
With Vickerson being the only true 4-3 DT on the roster, we need at least 2 more guys in the draft and hopefully one in FA, too.
LB would be the second biggest need, IMO. Right now, we don't have a single "playmaker" or "leader" in the LB corps. We need one of those if possible.
Safety is #3. Hill is mediocre, Dawkins is all but done, McBath is always broken, and Bruton is a STer (a good one at that, but nothing more).
DE comes next. Dumervil and Ayers are the projected starters, but Ayers hasn't really proven much and it is yet to be seen how he'll do when he gets back to DE. Jason Hunter and David Veikune are the projected backups. Other than Doom, there are ???s here, too.
I picked TE next because we really don't have a receiving TE on the roster, but a "receiving" TE is typically a position you can fill late in the draft or in FA.
RB is last on my list only because you can never have too many RBs. Our depth right now isn't great, but it's not terrible, either. If all of our guys weren't made of glass and paper mache, I'd be comfortable with our current roster. I like the thought of Moreno and White with Ball as the backup, but it won't hurt to get some new blood in here. I do think Buckhalter is all but through.
