  • Kona Broncos Ideal Mock Draft

Well it's been awhile since I done a mock and as I veiw the boards I see guys getting hyped up that I had in my mocks while the season was still going. Funny thing is I got flamed for my picks back then and what do you know....:thumb: well on to my mock

    Round 1
Marcell Dareus DT (alt Nick Fairley)

Boy did I get flamed for this pick... I said he could play 34 NT or DE I also said he could be a great 43 DT and got laughed at. If he is there he IS our pick. In our new 43 Defernse (if my mock goes as plan) Dareus would be the same type of player as Vickerson, A monster run stoper that at times can penatrate and colapse the pocket.

    Round 2

Stephen Paea DT (alt Marvin Austin)

Another I got laughed at because we were a 34 Team....Again I said he was strong enough to play a 34 NT much like Ratliff or a solid gap penatrating 43 DT much like our own ( dont flame me here ) Marcus Thomas. Thomas needs to be allowed to drop back down to his draft weight and be allowed to play his game.

My first two picks will give us all kinds of rotational freedom with 2 monster run stopers and 2 penatrating pocket collapsing DT.

    Round 2B

Allen Bailey DE ( Cameron Heyward)

WE have in my opinion 3 DE worthy of playing on our D. Pass rushers Elvis Dumervil and David Veikune and a run stoping DE in Robert Ayers. Bailey in my opinion is the best of both worlds he can play the run and rush the passer. This again gives us rotational freedom. I can see on 3rd and longs a line like Bailey, Thomas, Paea, Veikune with Dumervil droping back as a 43 OLB rushing the passer. Thats count them 5 pass rushers some thing sorely missed last season.

    Round 3
Quan Sturdivant ILB (alt Kelvin Shepard)

He may be gone by this point but with his thigh injury he could slip in to the third round. My thinking is he would split time with one of my new favorite Bronco Joe "The Hitman" Mays giving us a young stong middle linebacker combo.

*********Block Buster Trade******** we trade our 6th to SF for Both there sevenths. ( Why IDK I needed Two 7ths and there is always teams moving around late in the draft for players they had ranked higher who slipped)

    Round 7A

    Shaun Chapas FB

A decent Fb who can catch...upgrade over Larsen

    7B
    Davonte Shannon SS
Under the radar SS cause he played in a small school (Buffalo) had consecative 100+ tackles in his first 2 seasons than a 97 tackle season last year followed by 120 this year....

    7C

    Bruce Miller OLB

A pass rushing specialist much like Dumervil, Insurance if Dumervil goes down again

    7D
    Weslye Saunders TE

Monster TE but has charector issues @ 6-5 270lbs he would be a huge redzone target

I really don't get why people want 3 DTs...

I mean seriously, YOU ONLY START TWO.

Uh. You know they rotate pretty frequently right? That's like saying we should only have 2 receivers because you only start 2...

Uh, you know this team doesn't have a MLB, SS, OLB, OT, or TE?

Let's focus on drafting starters for now...

I do agree i dont want 3 DT's with the first 3 picks however i do want two and would love to have the two kona drtafted 1st and second.

I would change the other picks though. I would put a safety preferbaly quinton carter as we are so weak there as you said Sos.

Also the third i would change to an OT. One of our biggest needs. Yes it wouldnt be a starter but you also need depth.

Also MLB-OLB-TE imo can be fine for now. Safety and DT are much bigger problems. At linebacker we have a servicable playing group or Joe Mays, Mario Haggan, DJ Williams, Wesley Woodyard, Brian Dawkins, Spencer Larsen. Not all that bad. Wont win a championship but can wait to be rebuilt next year. TE also i think we can get a guy like Daunbta Rosario in FA who is a solid receiving threat and a good blocker it would be a good compliment to richard quinn and dan gronkowski.

I like the draft.... I like the multiple pick at the Dline. Some people don't think when they look at Mocks. They like to think that every pick is a starter. We need to throw multiple pick at the front 7. For several reasons... 1) Not every players pans out. If you are a Bronco fan you really should know that a good % of players flame out and never become good. We could run down the list of our first round mishaps if you want. So throwing multiple players at a position is just improving our odds of hitting on a player. 2) Green Bay Packers. They won the championship cause they have such insane depth. Players get hurt, if you wanna win you need back up that can step up and fill that spot. Quality depth is important everywhere, but it is imperative in some spots and most notably is on the Dline cause you are always going to get injuries there

I think I have to agree with this viewpoint. Makes sense.

I don't care for this draft much. I have questions about where some of these players will get picked. Meaning, I don't think they will be around where you're selecting them. I don't like the first three picks going to the line, this is going to be a two year / two draft minimal build and we have problems up the core that should take president, a DT is included with the core. Just doesn't seem well thought out but, that's just my opinion
I hate the Defenseless Receiver rule and the fines. Posted since '07. 2011 rule addition :nono: backhand a fool!

They may not be starter quality, you don't take a low quality player in the second just because there's a need. If we feel that way then why not take another starting caliber DT, the team will not be fixed in a year.
What's the difference between ignorance and apathy?
                  I don't know and I don't care

I have a thread about drafting 3 DTs with our first three picks.

It is needed. The Dline is the most important part of the D. It sets the tone for stopping the run and if you can get pressure with you front 4, your blitz will kill other teams. (Look at how the Ravens and Stealers play D).

Our secondary is okay for this year and will need maybe a late rounder this year.

LB is questionable but we do have some good players there so maybe a good Dline would make that group better.

Yes, we do have needs at OT and TE on the offense and should be addressed since the Oline sets the tone for the Offense.

BUT, what would you need for a young QB to be successful? A good D and a good Oline......For Tebow.
                    Broncos forever!!

Overall, it's not that bad of a mock. My dream scenario would be getting Dareus at #2, then getting lucky and having Corey Liuget slide to us in round two. If we could land those two players we'd be good at DT.

Not too high on Allen Bailey. I think he would be best in a 3-4 DE role.

Sorry I been gone for two long but i"ll answer some of the coments...
SoundsOfSuccess I really don't get why people want 3 DTs...

I mean seriously, YOU ONLY START TWO.
Thanks for your input but I have in my draft two defensive tackles and one end. Oustide of Vickerson we currently have no DT and at end we have Ayers, Dumervill and Veikune depth is stilla huge need.

Uh, you know this team doesn't have a MLB, SS, OLB, OT, or TE?

Let's focus on drafting starters for now...
Quan Sturdivant or kelvin sheaprd could start but I really like what I saw out of Joe Mays last year and think the MIke in a 43 is perfect for him. Davonte Shannon is an excellent SS go look at his credentials..HE is just not as hyped as other cause he plays for buffalo. Bruce Miller is a pass rushing specialist much like Dumervil but a gain plays for a small school. As for Tackle I did this mock under the unsumption we resign Harris who I do like. Weslye Saunders was a monsterous TE In a high powered South Carolina offense. His stock is down huge because off the field concerns...he is a second to third round talent that we can get for a steal.

I don't care for this draft much. I have questions about where some of these players will get picked. Meaning, I don't think they will be around where you're selecting them
You could be right then again you could be wrong. If we nknew these answers we would be working for an nfl team.. This year I personally think that there are about 40 or so players with first round talent but there are only 32 picks. With us picking 4th in the second round that leave us in pretty good shap of getting a good player with first round talent. I think Paea slips due to his injury but god I hope we dont pass on him if he does.

Not too high on Allen Bailey. I think he would be best in a 3-4 DE role.
you could be right but I like him as a penetrating DE while still possesing the ability to stop the run which at this point neither Ayers nor Dumervill can seem to get done.

Agreed. There's too much talent at a lot of positions on the front 7 to go with Allen Bailey. I like the kid, but I think we have too many needs to put that many eggs in the DT basket. Dareus and Paea will give us a great base at DT. Let's stick with that!

I liked how the OP built the middle of the defense though! I think he viewed Allen Bailey as a DE, though, and that's where the mistake was.

Heck, I've seen Bailey listed as a DE/OLB.

                            Not a bad mock...

considering all of our needs I don't know if taking 3 DT's is a good idea. However, I love the first two picks, and everything but pick 2b.

                            Well done-

At just over 280lbs I think he would be a presence at DE
