  • Can't build Rome in one day Denver Broncos mock

Rome wasn't built in one day and as we all know the Denver Broncos have holes throughout the roster. This could take some time to rebuild, but I think we should start with the #32 ranked defense.

With the current state of the NFL, no trading of players, etc. I realize I'm leaving areas of concern out of my mock, just trying to grab as much talent as possible with the picks as they sit right now.

    Feel free to flame away!

Round 1 (2) DT Marcell Dareus, Alabama - Defense is the #1 problem in Denver and I believe you build offense and defense from the inside out. The trenches is where it all begins on the football field, so Marcell is my pick. He is capable of anchoring the line for years to come.

Round 2 (36) DT Stephen Paea, Oregon State - Paea and Dareus should clog the middle for years. Run Stop!

Round 2 (46) LB Mason Foster, Washington - He was the captain of his defense in college and he can be a captain here. Al Wilson if you will. Has a nose for the ball.

Round 3 (67) LB Casey Matthews, Oregon - You don't necessarily have to be a big LB in this defense and I just can't deny the bloodline. Good football instincts.

Round 6 (186) TE Andre Smith, Virginia Tech - Big blocking TE fits the John Fox mold, plus I think his receiving skills weren't used to the fullest in college.

Round 6 (189) RB Derrick Locke, Kentucky - Potential Big play ability, could give offense and special teams a shot of energy.

Round 7 (247) DE Ryan Winterswyk, Boise State - Hard working player in the Ben Garland mold. Hard working, means contributor.

I like the Casey Matthews pick i hope we get a chance to select him.

With our first pick a big part of me want to select Fairley,i think his positives he bring out weighs his negatives.IMO if we miss on selecting Fairley with the #2 selection,we will regret it later.

Thanks for all your hard work in this mock i appreciate it.

You were doing good till the 3rd.
      Casey Matthews is overrated.
No need for Smith when we have Quinn who was fantastic as a blocker when used last year.

Love the first 3 picks. Hate the next two. Love the last two.

I would say we need to add a safety at that 3rd round pick you have. And then at the 6th move Derrick Locke up and put a FB at the 6th pick.

I like the mock....But if Pea is our second round pick...We need to get a compliment to him. I say go with Fairley. dareus and Pea are both run stuffer's. I think fairley would be a better fit since he tends to play a lot more in the opponents backfield. That will also give us some pass rush from the T position
Thanx Blondie79 for the sweet Sig....Love it and I will rock it with pridesigpic

Daniel Graham was let go, IMO we need another TE.

The rush will come from the edge.

Like japfaff said, Paea and Dareus don't really compliment each other too well. We could reach on McClain and take him to be our UT or if Wilkerson is there we could take him. I like Nate Irving over Casey Matthews too

I think everyone doesnt really know how Paea plays. He is a one gap penertrater who gets up the field and gets skinny and splits double teams. He is not a NT only in a 4-3. I beleive he is a lot like fairley. Paea isnt as good against the run as lot of people think. Much like Fairley. Darius on the other hand can play any spot inside. He can play NT or UT. He is great against the run and there is no tape on him to suggest he will be a quick up the field penertrator.

Marcel Dareus and Stephen Paea compliment each other better than Fairley and Paea.

Plus Wilkerson is very overhyped IMO. All measurables and stats. Doesnt impress me all that much really. I like him as a late second early third but not at 36.

From what i have read fox likes to have big Run stuffing DT's in the middle and let the athletic DE's get to the QB. If that is the case then this mock makes sense.

To me there is still some uncertainty on how the 4-3 will be ran. Will it be in 4-3 most of the time or with allen's experience will it change to all different types of formations.

What happens if Carolina fools people and takes Dareus in the first round? It could happen?
Also I would rather take Scott instead of Locke. He is bigger and faster and will probably still be on the board.

No I'm saying Dareus and Paea play their respective positions similiarly. A lot of what Paea does is because of his strength, same thing for Dareus. The reason you want one DT that can get up the field quickly and another that can anchor and pretty much hold his ground or get a little push, well it basically creates an uneven pocket which will open blitzing lanes a lot more. I don't think Paea will be able to get up the field any faster than Dareus and it'll just clog everything up. That would be fine if Fox is content to just use the front 4 to rush the passer but I don't think he is. Not sure if that makes sense to anyone but me but yeah

Like I said. I dont think people understand how Paea plays. He IS an up the field penetrator who has amazing initial quickness to get thin and split the gap and get in the backfield.

Dareus as you have just stated is the run clogger who can anchor. He has the best anchor in the draft.

Dareus and Paea are the best complement to each other. You said it in your post that I quoted right here. You want a guy who can get up the field (Paea) and a guy who can clog it up (Dareus).

I've seen both play, I don't think Paea will be able to get up the field any faster than Dareus will in the NFL. It's just my opinion
