Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

I've seen both play, I don't think Paea will be able to get up the field any faster than Dareus will in the NFL. It's just my opinion
I know that is your opinion and thats cool but why would you think that. What about his game would suggest he couldnt be as good of a penetrator at the next level.
For Example: Bowers faced inferior tackles. Relies on his strength and does have much technique.
Paea has a great mix of initial quickness and strength. He uses his hands well. I compare him a bit to fairley actually. He doesnt rely on one area of his game to be successful
Rome wasn't built in one day and as we all know the Denver Broncos have holes throughout the roster. This could take some time to rebuild, but I think we should start with the #32 ranked defense.
With the current state of the NFL, no trading of players, etc. I realize I'm leaving areas of concern out of my mock, just trying to grab as much talent as possible with the picks as they sit right now.
Feel free to flame away!
Round 1 (2)DT Marcell Dareus, Alabama - Defense is the #1 problem in Denver and I believe you build offense and defense from the inside out. The trenches is where it all begins on the football field, so Marcell is my pick. He is capable of anchoring the line for years to come.
Round 2 (36)DT Stephen Paea, Oregon State - Paea and Dareus should clog the middle for years. Run Stop!
Round 2 (46)LB Mason Foster, Washington - He was the captain of his defense in college and he can be a captain here. Al Wilson if you will. Has a nose for the ball.
Round 3 (67)LB Casey Matthews, Oregon - You don't necessarily have to be a big LB in this defense and I just can't deny the bloodline. Good football instincts.
Round 6 (186)TE Andre Smith, Virginia Tech - Big blocking TE fits the John Fox mold, plus I think his receiving skills weren't used to the fullest in college.
Round 6 (189)RB Derrick Locke, Kentucky - Potential Big play ability, could give offense and special teams a shot of energy.
Round 7 (247)DE Ryan Winterswyk, Boise State - Hard working player in the Ben Garland mold. Hard working, means contributor.
Dareus, Paea and Foster would be great additions to our defense. Matthews gets a lot of hype because of his name, but I don't see the great play. Smith sounds like another Richard Quinn. Locke and Winterswyk would be good additions. Five out of seven ain't bad.
We also have a pressing need to shore up the O-Line. And in my mind, I think its a toss-up between need at Linebacker vs Cornerback.
If we do get Marcell Dareus (DT) in the first round, and the rest of the first round has some surprises, our Second Round could present us with strong choices at OT, OG, LB and CB, as well as DT.
Could be available at #36:
Stephen Paea - DT
Gabe Carimi - OT
Derek Sherrod - OT
Orlando Franklin - OG
Danny Watkins - OG
Brandon Harris - CB
Ras-I Dowling - CB

Cornerback is not a highneed. Safety and Linebacker are of a bigger need on the defense that corner. Also TE is a bigger need as is OT. Corner is a long way down the list IMO>
1st: DT
2nd: LB
3rd: S
4th: OT
5th: TE
6th: RB
7th: CB
Our corner group is one of the better ones in the NFL.
Champ is champ and goodman is one of the better number 2s in the league. Cox showed otential and if he can learn to locate the football in the air he will be the future at RCB. Syd showed to be a very very good nickel guy and cassius vaugh showed he has value as depth and a returner. No need for a corner in the first 3 rounds.

Brandon Harris - CB I would maybe be happy if Jimmy Smith fell here bu for no other. JS is the best man to man cover corner in the draft.
Ras-I Dowling - CB
Thanks for the thoughts and comments, Johnlimburg.
I think we need a TE who can be a factor in the route-running, pass-catching part of the game. But not with a high 2nd round pick this year.
But our O-Line is thin and the last 2 years has been only middling in performance. Maybe last year's two rookies will show some upside improvement. But I think we could use 1 more studd. I want a line that can open up holes and also give the QB time. Tebow needs time to process. And Orton can't escape pressure.
As for our CB's, agreed that Cox and Syd could develop into good corners. But Goodman avoids tackling responsibilities, and that drives me nuts.
Agreed on the need for improvement at OLB (a guy who can rush the QB and also have pass coverage skills).
