We are a 4-12 team and need help at a lot of positions. If Denver can get a second round compensation for trading down then they should do so by all means. Denver picked a bad year to suck. This draft does not have any top tier palyers, heck it doesn't even have a clear cut number 1 pick. At that to no CBA in place and Denver needs all of the high picks it can get. If they can't trade back then take Dareus if he's there.

Basically it would make higher picks more desirable for everyone.

Neither of you are ever going to win this argument; there's no one way the wage scale influences it.

Sure a team could want to trade up because they don't have to pay large amounts, but a team could also want to stay put at their high spot.

Everything agreed on was thrown out the window. Its why they went to court. The NFL and players are in a new negotiation process. Things can be change now even if they were agreed upon before.

Part of my problem is without the CBA we currently can not touch free agent talent, which also affects draft decisions.

But I dont expect the front office to sign 50 year old defensive linemen like McD did.

Depending on how the first round goes (we need either Darues, Peterson or Miller), the 2a pick may be the most important pick for us. I am assuming we are getting a stud at #2, and really hoping we can get the BPA (a player who slid or was graded high second, but shouldn't have - examples are Laurinatis in 2009, DeSean in 2008, just look at 2007 early second round - Posluszny, Kolb, Weddle, Zach Miller,Sidney Rice, Woodley, Harris). I know there are many 2nd round busts as well - but I would take any one of those LB who slid or were graded as 2nd rounders. And we need a LB - maybe we add Martez to this list in a couple years.

It is a good pick - we'd better get better than equal points to trade it.

I think the only way trading down the number 2 pick is worth if is if we can move down a couple slots and still pickup fairley/daerus/miller.

We need an impact pick and that number 2 basically guarantees it.

Nah this team needs a base of solid players to build on with this draft, then get an impact mike next year when the pickin is good.

This draft doesn't have a bunch of "can't miss" top level talent in it but it does have a lot of quality "good" players. If Denver could trade down from #36 to say #50 and pick up an extra pick or two, they could get two or three good players instead of one.
I really don't think Denver is low on talent, I think if everybody can get and stay healthy, adding a few quality players can make a world of difference. BUT I think they should do it through the draft and not so much FA. If another team lets them go, there is probably a reason why!

Not a fan of trading in the second round unless its a offer you cant refuse. Id rather stay put and take bpa on defense, why not stay put and take borderline first round talent instead of trafing back for a bum ..needle in a haystack.

    Or trade #2 for #5 and a 2nd
    Then trade 2b for a 3,4,5,6
    Draft
    Marcell dareus DT
    Marvin austin UT
    Martez wilson MLB
    Jordan todman RB
    Kendrick ellis NT
    Joseph barksdale OT
    Byron maxwell FS/CB
    Zach hurd OG
    Darrin walls CB
    Scott lutrus SLB
    Schuylar oordt TE
Then sign charles johnson/ray edwards and james anderson/justin durant. Sign FB shane bannon as a udfa and we are all set whether we resign harris or not
Edit: by all set I mean competing for a championship THIS YEAR.

If AZ trades the #5 pick and their second rounder for our #2 pick, then we either have a chance at drafting Dareus or Miller, or we trade back again with a team that covets Peterson.

We either get Dareus/Miller and 3 second round picks, or we draft Wilkerson/Luiget/Ayers/Watt/Jordan in the first round and have 4 second round picks.

And if we trade pick 2a for a lower second and a third, that gives us a total of 1 pick in the first round, 4 picks in the second round, and two picks in the third round to grab a DE, 2 DTs, 1 S, 2 LBs, and an OT.

Our draft could look like this:
    1)Corey Luiget, DT
    2a)Martez Wilson, LB
    2b)Rahim Moore, S
    2c) Mason Foster, LB
    2d)Allen Baily, DE
    3a)Kendrick Ellis, DT
    3b)James Brewer, OT
    6a)Mark Herzlich, LB
    6b)Henry Hynoski, FB
    7)Lee Smith, TE

And you could certainly move players around and substitute names like Stephen Paea, DT, Muhammad wilkerson, DT, Marvin Austin, DT, JJ Watt, DE, Cameron Jordan, DE, Robert Quinn, DE, DaQuan Bowers, DE,Nick Fairly, DT, Phil Taylor, DT, Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Aldon Smith, DE, Quan Sturdivant, LB, Greg Jones, LB, Casey Matthews, LB, Dontay Moch, LB, Kelvin Sheppard, LB, Aaron Williams, S, Quinton Carter, S, DeAndre McDaniel, S,Marcus Cannon, OT, DeMarcus Love, OT, Jason Pinkston, OT, Marcus Gilbert, OT, Joseph Barksdale, OT, Ben Ijalana, OT.....

My point is, by trading down we have a realistic shot at grabbing 7 or more excellent starters.
