  • Pick 46 (2B) & Kyle Rudolph

All - just curious what you think.

If our second round pick is coming up and Rudolph is still out there on the board, would you take him?

    Personally, yes.

Do I expect Fox & co. to grab him if he's there? Not at all.

This might have been a real possibility if McDaniels was coaching but with Fox I don't think so either.

I would consider him at 2(a) depending on how the draft goes, but I am sure that another need will be there (Martez or Paea maybe). IF, Rudolph is available at 2b - I think he may be the best player on the board (safety, ol, and running back are more likely scenarios though).

Dont think fox's offense value tight end tho. I remember rivera saying that he wanted to grab a te at his intro. press conf

Fox likes run blockers who have steady hands. That's the profile of a mid-late rounder.

I'd pass on Rudolph because: a) he has injury concerns, b) there are a number of other areas where we could better spend a 2nd round pick and c) Notre Dame is overrated trash...

No, I think we'll add a TE later in the draft.

I hope/expect our first four picks will be two defensive tackles, one offensive tackle, and one linebacker.

Although Fox may not be known for going after the highly valued TEs, there's two things to keep in mind

                  1) In Fox's history at Carolina, did he ever have a TE roster as poor as the one we have right now?
                  2) There's often nothing more helpful to a young QB then a good TE

Although I think we can assume Fox isn't the type of person to normally pursue TEs aggressively, this is really quite a different scenario.

Particulary #2, our offense last year was often just plain stale, a TE is often that spark lighter so regardless of Orton or Tebow a TE could be a big help to this team. And having said that I say yes to Rudolph at 46, but i really don't consider him a steal at that point, I say fair value and i only say yes because our TE need is so great but it would definitely need to be being weighed against the defensive players available.

Maybe. I'm starting to get the feeling more and more that our first pick is Dareus and 2b will be LeShoure. Probably someone like Paea or Austin with 2a.

                      I voted yes though.

No way we are double dipping at DT.

                        It is going to be

                        Dareus
                        Best OT
                        Best RB
                        Best Slb/Mlb

And then TE and secondary in the later rounds.

But hopefully we can trade down a few times and load up on 2nd rounders and 3rd rounders.

Pick 46 comes along and the following guys are available:

                          Kyle Rudolph - TE
                          Casey Mathews - ILB
                          Martez Wilson - OLB (IL)
                          Jabaal Sheard - DE (Pitt)
                          Daniel Thomas - RB
                          Marcus Gilbert - OT (FL)
                          John Moffitt - OG (Wisc)

I don't think you jump on Rudolph. For need, I think we go with depth for the O-Line. And a quality RB, with size and steam-roller power would improve the Offense more than a quality TE.

We do have a lot of needs.

Not sure how you're 100% sure of this, especially since we only have 4 DTs on the roster, none of which are worth starting.
