And the packers used the 34 as their base all season and have drafted and prepared to run a 34 D. It just so happens that they thought a 4-2-5 (which they didn't play all game) would stop Pittsburgh best.

And I'm sure SamP will correct me if I'm wrong, but the Packers played a 4-2-5 in the superbowl. Not a 3-4.
    I beleive it was a 2-4-5.

I was thinking Clay and whoever was on the other side were playing DE. they must have just been standing up.

It is never unnecessary to get a solid defensive tackle. That's why when solid defensive tackles hit the market some team will vastly overpay for them.
This is 100% correct! You simply have to answer the question:

What is more difficult to find?

A strong, fast, athletic and agile DT who is 6'4" 319 lbs. and can rush the passer.
        OR
A strong, fast, athletic and agile LB who is 6'2" 245 lbs. and can rush the passer.

If you said "the LB" you flunk!
You don't need to spend first and second round picks on defensive tackles who will excel in the system -- IF you don't mind watching the QB step up into an immaculate pocket and have a perfect throwing lane to throw, just as they have for the last FIVE YEARS, because Denver's DTs have ZERO pass-rush ability and they get no inside pressure.
There. I've fixed it for you.

If there was a grain of sense in that attitude "we don't need elite DTs" you would have to wonder why so many teams grab them in the top 10 in every draft, and why DT is the 2nd highest drafted position after QB in the NFL (Football Outsiders).

It would be more correct to say that FOX doesn't care about having elite DTs, but then the rest of the NFL does not agree with him, which is proven by every years' draft including this one, and they're right.

We spent about 6 minutes talking about Denver's draft. That's only about a minute less than we usually spend on any given team and what didn't we qualify?

I actually liked the two TE picks. I said that. Our other host didn't. He said they are both similar prospects and you don't need both. If I had an extra ten seconds I would have told him that Denver probably didn't think Green would be there in the 7th round.
You started talking about the Broncos 25.23 min into the show. You stopped 29.32 mins into the show. Thats 4 mins and 9 seconds. Just to be precise In comparison - you talked about the Chargers for 9 mins and 20 secs

All you had time to say about the Broncos was - I like this - I dont like this. Very little "because" or "lets discuss".

I really do think you guys did a good job on the other AFC West teams - but as a Bronco fan you gave me very little. Therefore I recommended my fellow Bronco fan to spend his time more wisely.

None the less, Clay and the other rush linebacker (Frank Zombo?) were rushing on most plays. They essentially were playing a 4-2-5, because Clay and Zombo were not put into coverage much.

After listening to the majority of this podcast I would say these folks suffer from the same issues most sportscasters do. They don't focus on any particular team they try and be a jack of all trades and succeed by becoming masters of jack sh#t. It's nothing to be ashamed of, it just happens (who has enough time to become experts on every team).

At least they have opinions (some of them refreshing) AND are willing to put them on the line. Where as division writers like ESPN's Bill Williamson play nice for every team.

Avid, long time fans can poke holes in these guys arguements (more than a few in the Chargers section anyway) but they do make some points as well. Besides when you go looking for stuff like this you're an eager fan, you're dying to have/listen to a good conversation about the draft. These guys provide that, that makes it worth while.

I know I rambled around on this post but I hope I made sense to you the reader.
