  • Tackle-Mike Adam-Supp Draft

    With nothing to talk about:

Offensive Tackle Mike Adams will more than likely enter the NFL supp draft. People would not consider a tackle as a huge need however I do. Yes we drafted Orlando Franklin and we have Ryan Clady. However it is more than likely that Harris walks. We will have a very solid young group with:

    Clady-----Beadles-----Walton-----Kuper-----Franklin

However we have really no backups who could step in and play at even a reasonable level. Especially at Tackle. We have Herb Taylor and Chris Clark. We seen how much affect having an injured Clady or players like Batiste in their can have. We were awful and if Clady is to go down or Franklin who is going to play.

If someone like Mike Adams was picked up in the supp draft it would allow a lot of possibilities in the case of an injury or not. If Clady was to go down then Adams could step in. If Franklin was to go down then Adams could step in. If a guard position went down then Franklin could move in there and Adams could step in at right tackle.

Or Adams could compete for a starting job at Tackle with Franklin or could start and Franklin could compete for a guard starting spot with Beadles/Kuper.

Yes we just spent a 2nd rounder on a guard/tackle however I think Franklin is a better suited guard. Mike Adams is a very talented player who may go in the 1st round if he was to enter the draft next year. However if he enters the supp he may be available in the 3rd Round and I would be willing to give that up. A 2nd no but a 3rd yes.

Not saying I would love for this to happen or it must. Just something that could be beneficial for the team.

If something like this does not happen we need to sign a veteran Tackle anyway. Someone who can step in a still play.

If the dude just got Suspended by the NCAA, I definitely don't want to gamble on him to become a backup.

I'd much rather grab a UDFA with solid character and won't hurt if he sucks.

Yeh guys like Stanley Daniels and D'Anthony Batiste. They are real solid backups and guys if called will do a great job. Just joking. Talent is needed and what he done is hardly a character issue. Traded memorabilia for tattoos. I think that is what he done wrong. Hardly a locker room issue.

Traded memorabilia for tattoos? Not a big deal?

That's a big deal to me!

It shows the guy doesn't give a damn about accomplishing things but puts high priority in "lookin cool" or "being cool" with his tattoos...

I want my backup right tackle to take pride in football, not tattoos. If he were using the money to support his family, that's a whole nother story, but this isn't acceptable.

Team memorabilia is a bit vague, what does it consist of actually?

Really. Man you must be a saint. There would not be a NFL if GM's built a team by this logic. If this is considered a character issue and a reason people do not want him on the team, then all I can say is wow. So wanting some money is not having a love for football. Was it a crime. No it broke a NCAA violation but he is hardly a criminal or bad character guy.

I think it was a joke he was suspended in the first place.

I don't like Orlando Franklin at right tackle as much as I originally did, especially with him being the sole protector of Tebow's blind side.

I would like to get Adams, for say a 4th round pick in supp, trade Chris Kuper to some zone team (Washington, Houston), and have a lineup of Ryan Clady, Zane Beadles, JD Walton, Orlando Franklin, and Mike Adams. Now in my dream scenario they all pan out. But I'm sure we would have one year of just awful line play, before our left side can hits their peak. And by 2013 we could have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.

Or just keep all of the lineman and have some very good backups as well. Kuper IMO is much better suited to LG and could compete at LG with Beadles. Having Franklin does open up some different scenarios if we were to get Adams.

I don't think he would last to the 4th. I think he would be one of the top OT in the draft in one year.

But. It's the suppelmentary draft, and he is coming off a knee injury. Most guys who come out in the supp draft are projected as pretty good players, but nobody ever gives up a top pick for them. The supp draft is a discount draft, where you have a good chance to get a steal.

On the depth note... That would be pretty nice, except we have positions where we have no depth at also. So if we could trade Kuper to Washington for Kedric Gholston or to Houston for Amobe Okoye, I'm all for it.

Kuper shouldn't go anywhere and is right in his home at RG, he just signed a long term deal and I think the brass agrees.

As far as Adams goes Character issues are over rated most of the time. If the guy can play at a high level, it's really the only thing that should matter. It seems to me guys with attitude are little trains that can grind and dig in their heels to get up that hill. Guys with super duper character seem weak minded. To a certain limit.

I'm extremely excited about Franklin and can't wait to see him man handle LDEs. I don't know much about Adams but, as John says depth can't hurt and we have been hurt by injury in the past. "Sophomore Slumps" / 2nd year injuries soon to come. Why, IDK! It just seems a lot of 2nd year players have bad years as far as injury is concerned.

I think this Adams guy should definitely be given a look see.
I hate the Defenseless Receiver rule and the fines. Posted since '07. 2011 rule addition :nono: backhand a fool!

I agree with you, at worst we get good depth. The only person who deserves a starting spot on the line right now is Clady, as much as I love Kupes you can't deny our run game was atrocious last year, I say let everyone battle it out and best guy wins. I think Kupes would definitely win though, and will be a great mentor to the younger guys.

And the plot thickens, Adams was arrested for drug paraphernalia and has had multiple injuries missing games, he also needed surgery befor his freshman season as well, and was suspended 2 games for undisclosed reasons
