  • Seahawks turning attention to resigning Mebane...NO!!!!

    From rotoworld...

The Seahawks are turning their attention to re-signing free agent DT Brandon Mebane now that the quarterback situation has been addressed.
Mebane's agent indicated that his "most in-depth conversations" Tuesday have been with the Seahawks. Mebane lives in the area, and he's expected to return as long as he receives a competitive offer.

I wanted him over all other FA D lineman! I hope we put together a strong offer to possibly pry him from their grasp!

We'll have to bring Justin Bannan and Marcus Thomas back. And hope for the best.

overall I'm not surprised with anything at this point. We all wanted a big name free agent, but they don't want to come here. We are not a contender and we have the same amount of money as everyone else so we are screwed. If we are lucky maybe we snag Williams, but I dout it.

Our best bet is to sign some cheap young guys and hope they develop, and continue to build through the draft. Unfortunately EFX put there eggs in the FA basket and its looking like our "plan" isn't working.

We should just get to the floor on expiring contracts, and take our run next year at FA so we we have more money than everyone else. Pray Tebow takes us somewhere, and continue to build through the draft rome wasn't built in a day.

I never expected him to come to Denver anyway. It is still early and there are still many good DT out there. Those of you who say they won't want to come here are just plain wrong, imo. None of the DT in FA are really big names and are wanted by every team out there. Most of the contenders are not in need of a starting FA DT. Most, if not all, of the FA DT are looking for a place to start. Denver offers that. I think that will be very appealing to them. The top DT are still available in Cullen Jenkins and Cofield so no worries yet. We could actually sign both of them.

Broncos pushing to re-sign Marcus Thomas

Before they get serious about pursuing unrestricted free agent defensive tackles from other teams, the Broncos are making a push to re-sign their own Marcus Thomas.

It’s been difficult for the two sides to get in the same neighborhood on financial terms because there is what Marcus Thomas can be, and has been, as a defensive tackle in the 4-3 (21 starts in 2007-08). And there was what Thomas wasn’t as a 5-technique defensive end in the 3-4 (2 starts in 2009-10).

But the Broncos are trying. For the sake of their 2007 draft class _ where have you gone, Jarvis Moss and Tim Crowder? _ they’re trying to re-sign Thomas. If they can land Thomas in the next 24 hours, the Broncos may not feel so pressured to overpay for another defensive tackle in free agency. They’ll still sign one more defensive tackle. But they may not have to overpay.

good news as far as im concerned. Hopefully we can bring him back. Maybe Bannan too...

Wait... so because the Broncos are unlikely to sign the top name DT, you want them to tank the rest of the offseason and wait 'till next year...

Great news, I still hope we add a guy like Branch or McDonald too.

Not once did I say we should tank, I said that we are unlikely a big name DT, so we should sign young cheap guys or guys to short deals, so next year we will have more money to throw at FA. So what your saying is we should overpay for average talent and be no better off in the future.

Well the idea of getting to the floor and hoping to add talent next year seems awfully like tanking this year.

Right, because Brandon Mebane might resign with his team everyone else is average talent that will be overpayed for...

Mebane would cost a lot, so if we don't get him, that's fine. I really wanted him, but I don't want the Broncos overspending. Besides, we can get Cofield or Branch too.

Obviously you didnt read, I said no big name DTs want to come here, so we shoukdnt spend overspend on average talent. This is a weak Dt Fa class, after Mebane there is coefield who will get big money, then the next big two are Jenkins ans Franklin old guys we shouldn't throw money at. After that its guys we hope they can develop. So yes we are screwed if we don't get mebane or coefield.
