  • Lombardi tweeted Mebane to Seattle or NO :/

So I sent Michael Lombardi a tweet 23 minutes ago asking if there was any news on where Mebane was headed, he actually responded 21 minutes ago saying...

"new Orleans or back to seattle"

I tweeted back "Denvers out of the mix??" but have yet to get a response...I REALLY HOPE HE IS WRONG but I will keep everyone informed if I do get a response.

I think I might become mildly depressed if we lose out on Mebane.....

If Mebane goes else where Denver will still have some pretty good choices out there. I read someone wrote that with age Mebane is getting to be more of a two down DT and I can't see breaking the bank for that.
Denver ought to continue to build the team through the draft.

          Mebane is 26, there's no way he's becoming a 2 down DT.

Mebane isn't a 2 down defensive tackle. The only reason I could see that is because as an under tackle he doesn't have enough quickness to get sacks. He will play nose here, where he is very quick and will be the pass rusher he was a couple of years ago.

My optimism for the free agency period is rapidly wearing off... Mebane is probably not coming here. Cullen Jenkins is reportedly close to heading to the Redskins, and even Haynesworth is off the market and heading to the Patriots. Add on to that the fact that we can't seem to strike a deal to get Orton out of here, it's been a very frustrating last 12 hours or so for me.

We knew we had to make a splash in FA, and so far it's as if they are just sitting on their thumbs or they aren't able to simply finish off a deal. I'm starting to worry because we haven't even been able to re-sign Marcus Thomas.

What a joke. We should continue to bombard his twitter if he signs somewhere else as a bunch of lovers scorned.

If Denver signs him, I sure hope you are correct about him. If Denver can get someone in the middle to keep their new LB core clean, that will help a bunch.

Here's a thought, maybe the front office doesn't agree with you, or any of us, on what we need to be doing this free agency?

Look at the Redskins, every year they throw money at the biggest free agents and their team continues to suck.

I'd rather continue to build through the draft, and only sign free agents if the price is right and they're a good FIT for the team.

If Mebane is trying to get paid like he's an elite DT then we should stay faaaaaar away from that deal.

Based on our efforts so far in the FA, I am going to say lombardi has it right.

We knew Fox was going to fill in DT with scrubs. Once he passed on all the good ones in the draft, it became obvious he was still going with his belief he had in Carolina, where he never addressed DT.

It's also obvious now that Denver sees Jeremy Jarmon as a DT, which completely flabbergasts me. I guess we are going with that 4 DE D-line idea some folks have floated. The Giants had success with that, but they also had legit DTs filtered in as well.

There are still options available. We'll see what happens.

Well, let's just hope that if/when it fails miserably this year, we turn our attention to addressing the DT position. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

Well we're obviously TRYING to get DT's in FA. We've lasted this long with Mebane and I'm not sure if I really believe what Lombardi tweeted. We were reportedly making "big" and "serious" pushes for him all day yesterday, so at least we've made attempts to address the problem.

Maybe. All we really have to go on is scattered media reports that we've tried to negotiate with so and so. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to associate us with every DT available with an ounce of talent.

I'm sure we've called on some of these guys, we do need bodies afterall, but to what degree we've seriously negotiated, that's tough to say.

Plus, I still keep hearing (in my head) Xanders telling us that they didn't want Paea because he was too short and had short arms. Mebane has the same dimensions. So, for me, something doesn't add up. I still believe EFX misplayed the draft horribly and tried to cover it up by making up crap about the D-linemen. It's either that, or maybe they just truly don't give a crap about DTs.
