  • Aubrayo Franklin?

His name was mentioned as a FA DT on Rotoworld in an article about Mebane. Seemed to imply he was almost as good a pickup. What's his story?
    Where is this season going?

    He's been extremely quiet.

Kinda strange, but he's the best defensive tackle in the market IMHO. Followed by Brandon Mebane. Then some other guys that have already been signed.

Usually the best is the first off the market, so maybe the holdup on Mebane is to see what Franklin sets the market price at for defensive tackles?

Franklin is good, but on the wrong side of 30. He'd be a great stop gap option though

Speaking of quite where is Cedric benson? Guy is a stud you'd think someone would bite.

He was fat and average last year.

There has been a lot of speculation about him ending up in KC.

Franklin will wind up with the Chiefs, but he wants a significant contract. He's a superb run defender with nothing in terms of pass rush. I'm sure finances are holding any deal up.

As for Benson, he was just arrested recently. Nobody wants him but Cincinnati. There's no rush to sign him while there is a rush for these other players.

In a feeding frenzy like this, you have to prioritize your time with the players that won't be around to negotiate with later.

3.5 ypc and the Bengals o-line isn't terrible at run blocking, not what they were a few years ago, but not terrible either.

Your right. An average runningback could average 4 yards per carry.

Franklin will probably end up in KC. It seems they are making all the right moves to better their roster while we sit on our hands. I could see them signing both Warren and Franklin, and them destroying us by 30+ points both times we play them next year.

Man I wish McD would of brought Pioli here with him, KC is definately on the upswing while it seems we are destined for mediocrity, or worse. Good job F.O. :thumb:

No to Franklin...we have been down the 30 something DT road before.

It's my opinion that this team needs run-stopping focused DTs more so then penetrating ones. We are going to have the playmakers at DE and OLB to apply pressure. We desperately need guys who can simply hold ground, clog up running lanes, and if they apply pressure sparingly that's icing on the cake. It's my view of things, and I think it's reasonable.

I'm becoming really worried with this ownership. This would have been the perfect FA period to really turn the tide on defense. According to Clayton, the salary cap floor doesn't kick in until 2013. I'm not sure if there is some sort of part to that statement that is off or he his alluding to some different aspect (perhaps percentage of salary cap - he mentioned 89, I've heard 99 this year). But either way, if that's the case that there is no salary cap floor, it leads me to believe that the Broncos ownership is in as much financial dire straights as we have been led to believe.

If we could have landed 2 starting-quality DTs, this defense would have instantly been transformed. Instead, we face the possibility of going into the season with what I think will end up being some combination of Hatcher, Landri, Vickerson, and maybe Thomas. All of which have their question marks. If Nate Irving is expected to start, he's not going to be able to use his best tools, his instincts and elite lane filling ability, to his advantage when he's consistently swallowed up by Guards/Centers that are able to get downfield and quick.

I guess you could say I'm extremely worried.

I agree with you. I can't even pretend to know what our "plan" is for this team. Everything seems a massive mess right now. The draft seemed like a mess to me. I just don't know what we are doing. I freely admit, I am clueless and confused to the direction of our team. Most of our moves have seemed illogical to me.

                              Illogical moves (to me):

                              1. Hiring the only coach worse than McDaniels last season.
                              2. Keeping Brian Xanders as GM despite massive failings.
                              3. Drafting a SAM LB #2 Overall.
                              4. Passing on potential elite DTs, instead focusing on LB, TE, and Safety.
                              5. Drafting a player whom never played RT and wanted to play LG, to play RT.
                              6. Lying to the fanbase about why they didn't draft a DT (Trading up for Fairley, Paea's arms too short, we want to address it in FA, etc..)
                              7. Flipflopping on Tebow/Orton commitments every other day.
                              8. Waiting until FA to go after DTs, than whiffing on the quality ones.
                              9. Honing in on scrubs like Hatcher and Landri
                              10. Ignoring Marcus Thomas and similar upside players.
                              11. Chasing after DEs
                              12. Switching back to a 43 despite a roster made for a 34 (along with Miller).
                              13. Focusing on penetrating DTs while in the toughest run division in football.
                              14. Not addressing the CB position despite Cox likely headed to jail and Goodman's tendency for injury.
                              15. Not taking the 4th and salary cap relief for Orton
