  • Speed Backs

I am really looking at speed backs this year that are good catching the ball out of the backfield. I really only watched 3 games yesterday Florida FAU, Georgia Boise and LSU Oregon.

Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps stood out at me and they looked comfortable running the ball out of the backfield and receiving.

Anyways I was wondering who you guys thought could be some nice speed/recieving backs

LaMicheal James has "it", speed and vision. He was dealing with cramps last night, but had some nice open field moves and is a good receiver.

Speed backs don't carry over well.

See Reggie Bush. They've got to have the whole package, or else they'll just get run down.

He also runs inside a lot. He has great lateral quickness as well as recognition as to when to go north south

His size may drop him to round two, but if he hits the combine at 5'9 200 and runs a sub 4.4, I can see him as a late 1st. Most likely not where we are picking.

You can name 2 pure speedbacks in the last decade that have succeeded what does that say about the role, they cant make it at next le el in the NFL.

Thats because they need elite blockers in front of them name any speed back that has done well and you will see a top blocking FB leading the way because otherwise they cant play at the next level. The only way they get to the edge is with someone infront of them with incredible speed and power, because speed backs cant survive running inside where 90% of most runs occur in the NFL drastically different then in college. We dont have an elite FB but if we did I would rather get a combo back or a cutback like Moreno who have a much higher success rate then speedbacks do

He bulked up to 195 in the offseason, which is a 15 pound gain. Hopefully he goes early to mid second which is where we will probably be

I want to see where he is at at the end of the year. If he falls to a mid/late 2nd and we have a chance, I could see us taking him. Fox used Goodson quite often and he has similar skills.

Haha wow...Dunn and Faulk were "power backs"?? Ok dude. (5'9" 185 lbs and 5'11" 211 lbs respectively)
Willie Parker's nickname is/was "Fast Willie Parker" and stop fooling yourself, Portis was a speed back that could cut back.

And if u weren't impressed by Robert Smith then you grade on too big of a curve, IMO.

Willie's only asset was his speed, once he lost that he lost his game.

Dunn was a speed back. Portis was a speed back in Denver. I personally would be happy with a speed back as good as Tatum Bell was here with Shanny.
