  • Mid-Season Mock

Let me start off by saying that the 2012 draft may be one of the best years to trade down. I know that this is the talk for the past couple years, but this year we really should trade down. I will also say that I think we will be picking anywhere from 8-11.Let me dive into the mock.

TRADE: Denver trades down to the mid-teens. There are a couple teams that could pick in this range that will need a RB or WR. RB/WR is thin this year and with the wage scale in place trading up for a top flight WR/RB should be easy. This trade could net us another 2nd and a 5th.

    1. Dre Kirkpatrick, CB Alabama: We need a starting calibur CB for the furture. Champ will not play forever. When/if he moves to safety, we will need his replacement. Vaughn, hopefully, will take Goody's place next season and having depth can't hurt either.

    2. Peter Konz, OC Wisconsin: Walton is starting to play poorly. This could be because of his endurance is lacking. It seems like his head isnt in the game as much either. Time to move on.

    2. Levy Adcock, OT OKST: We need a RT badly. Tebow can't count on Franklin every snap. Franklin should be moved inside to OG and keep Beadles as OG/RT depth.

    3. Kendall Reyes, DT UCONN: We need to get pressure on the QB to create turnovers. We are at the bottom of the league in turnovers. Pressure up the gut from the DT spot could go a long way in helping in the TO catagory.

    4. Jonathan Massaquoi, DE Troy: Plain and simple....depth. He is a penetrating DE who could sub for Ayers on passing downs.

    5. Jeffery Demps, RB Florida: This team lacks explosive players. We could use a guy like Demps on KR and in the screen game. He could be our Sproles.

    5. Damarlo Belcher, WR Indiana: Pure depth and insurrance incase another injury to DT. This guy is 6-5 214lbs and runs a 4.45 .40. I really like the idea of tall receivers.

    5. Jaymes Brooks, OG Virginia Tech: Again, depth along our bad OL.

Constructive critisism is always appreciated. Tear it up folks!!!

Not bad but i don't think we should take an OC/OT in the 2nd round back to back, would love to get Kirkpatrick though.

        OC i agree.

Franklin aside from Sunday has been getting better and better each week and Wake is one of the best pass-rushers in football. Can't blame him for that.

I have been looking at Kirkpatrick quite a bit and really like him as well...I am not sure he will be there in the mid to late teens for picks to be honest. Demps is an interesting choice...I am just not sure with his size if he will have the same explosive effect at the NFL level...then again look at guys like sproles I most definitely could be wrong. As far as the rest I haven't looked at them too much at this point but will do so and let you know my thoughts, not that they matter too much but still.

OC is a priority IMO. I also really think Franklin could flourish as an OG. Beadles' play has also been subpar as of late. We could just use him as depth behind Franklin and as a backup RT to who ever we draft.

I really think Franklin should be moved to OG and Beadles to RT for the time being to have a final audition before the draft comes this offseason.

I liked it until you got to Adcock. I hear tell that his stock is dropping!

                I like it.

I'm not sure we can trade down and get Kirkpatrick. I think he goes in the Top 10. We might not even get a shot at him if we stay put since the Jags will need a CB to replace Mathis. But I think your thought process is sound. There will be a solid starting CB prospect we likely could trade down and still obtain, though I think both Kirkpatrick and Claiborne would be lost in doing so. The likely #3 overall CB should still be around, right now that's probably Stephen Gilmore, Alfonzo Dennard, or Janoris Jenkins, but there are some really good Junior CBs that could fly up draft boards into the Mid-Late 1st as well, such as Jordan Poyer, Desmond Trufant, Sanders Commings, and Johnthan Banks. Nobody really knows about them, but they've all played really well.

I don't think Konz gets out of the 1st Round if he declares. He's every bit the prospect the Pouncey brothers and Alex Mack were. It's always possible he slips a bit, so this would be a great selection if so.

I think Adcock in the 2nd would be a strong selection as well. Really, I'm on board with anything that gets Franklin away from RT. And to another poster, no, he has not improved all year. He's been terrible. We usually babysit him with a TE all game. If we didn't do that, you'd have what happened against Miami on a weekly basis.

The rest of the guys are fine, though Massoquoi is small, 250ish, and really projects as a 34 OLB. You'd probably have to go a different direction if you want a 43 backup Rush End. In the 4th Round range, I'd suggest Cam Johnson, Derrick Shelby, Jamie Blatnick, Justin Francis, Vince Browne, Julian Miller, Jack Crawford, and Tyrone Crawford as options. It's not a strong DE draft at all.

I like that, but trade down, it's very improbable to guess.

Adcock has been terrible this year against speed rushers. As a rookie he won't be an upgrade over Franklin, period. As bad as our OL looks, it looked 10 times worse last year. Only difference, is 1 year of experience, just let this unit continue to jell together under 1 offensive system.
