  • Tarheel23's Mock Draft 2.0

Since there is not much to talk about on the draft boards figured I would make a new mock. In this mock im going to make it a little bit more detailed with potential free agency moves and all picks of the draft.

Guys Id like us to go after
FA: Chalie Whitehurst, Ted ginn Jr, Cortland Finigan.

Round 1. Jerel Worthy DT. Would instantly improve the D-line. On third down would give us a four front Von Worthy Bunk Doom.

Round 2. Ben Jones C. If Mike Adams drops to us in the second he would be a great pick but I see continuing to build the O-line. We are very close to solidifying our O-Line.

Round 3. Cliff Harris CB. I see us adding a cornerback in Free agency but this wouldnt be a bad place to have some depth. If Eddie leaves then Cliff could help in the return game.

Round 4. Isah Pead. We just need some playmakers at this postion to help take the attention off of Tebow. He would share carries with Mcgahee. Fannin, Moreno and Lance ball compete for a roster spot.

Round 5. Rokevious Watkins G/T. Best case senerio he becomes Zane Beadles replacement at left guard. Worst case is depth which isnt a bad thing for the O-line.

Round 7. Cody Johnson FB. Bring Cody Johnson, Quinn Johnson and Spencer Larsen in to camp next year and keep 1-2. Plus we have Virgil Green for depth. I think he can play full back he looks to be a smart kid and a hell of a blocker. We have four good tightends one of them should be able to play full back and Vigil is that guy.

Cornerback should be our "BIG" Free Agency move. We need another good CB to compliment Champ.

If anyone likes my mock or thinks it was a decent read please rep me up cause I think I have none? Not sure.

I generally like your plan. I agree with the positions: A good rotational DT in the first round, an offensive lineman in the second, a speed back and a fullback. As for personnel choices, I like Adams, Pead, Watkins and Johnson. Not a big fan of Worthy and never heard of Jones. If we do try to get another starting CB, I agree it should be a veteran free agent. Since we've lost Lloyd and might lose Royal, I would switch CB Harris for a WR/Returner.

I like your offseason. Ted Ginn Jr would be great here and would allow this offense to do many more things. Don't think we need Pead, would rather get a bruiser. I like Jones alot because he can backup at center and guard.

        2012 Mock Offseason

Assuming Tebow continues towards a starting position, these are the needs/cuts/re-signings/free agent signings/draft that I'd like to see this offseason.

        Needs
        Speed, dynamic playmakers on offense
Our offensive line seems like less and less of a need as each week goes by, so the number one need for this offense is some fresh faces to keep it going. This includes a change of pace back to spell McGahee. Keep Moreno in a third down back role. A huge need is also new wide receivers for the system. If Tebow can continue his progression as a passer, I believe that receivers will want to come into the system. Decker, and Thomas appear to be locks for next year, while Royal's time in Denver seems to be coming to an end with his excessive amount of drops in the past few weeks.
        Cornerback
This year, as I said last year, I think an elder secondary player will be cut to make way for the future. Andre' Goodman has shown some good coverage ability, but his tackling is a huge issue, and he isn't getting any younger. A starting cornerback as well as a draft pick on a cornerback are musts with Champ getting up in age. In this mock, I have Dawkins retiring, but Carter moving to strong safety, and Moore coming back in as starting free safety.
        Defensive Tackle
Though not as big a need as thought at the start of the season, re-signing our defensive tackle free agents is a huge must.

        Re-Signings/Cuts
        Brady Quinn - Re-Sign
        Spencer Larsen - Walk
        Daniel Fells - Re-Sign
        Eddie Royal - Walk
        Mario Haggan - Walk
        Russ Hochstein - Walk
        Jason Hunter - Re-Sign
        Brodrick Bunkley - Re-Sign
        Joe Mays - Re-Sign
        Britton Colquitt - Re-Sign
        Ryan McBean - Re-Sign
        Matt Prater - Re-Sign
        Marcus Thomas - Re-Sign
        Matt Willis - Walk
        Wesley Woodyard - Re-Sign
        Stanley Daniels - Cut
        Kevin Vickerson - Cut
        Andre' Goodman - Cut
        Brian Dawkins - Retire

        Free Agency
        Sign Tracy Porter/Terrell Thomas
Both have injury concerns which may let the Saints/Giants see fit that they go find new homes during free agency. Porter seems like a more likely candidate due to his familiarity with Dennis Allen as his secondary coach in New Orleans
        Sign Marques Colston/Robert Meachem
With the amount of priority free agents the Saints have this offseason, and depth at the position, it's likely that one of Colston and Meachem hit free agency this summer. Both can stretch the field well, and would be a true number-one and would help Thomas and Decker develop, while being relatively young.
        Sign a true blocking fullback
Give Quinn Johnson competition in camp, Virgil Green as an H-Back back-up to whoever wins the job. Larsen isn't the answer long-term
        Sign a back-up guard/centre
Back-ups in the interior of our offensive line are needed.

        Draft
Since one of our round 5 picks is going to cleveland, our 6 is gone in the joe mays trade.
1.) Janoris Jenkins CB, North Alabama
Though there are some "character concerns" Jenkins has been dominating his inferior competition, and would be a top-10 selection if still on Florida. I also don't view marijuana as a huge deal, so maybe that's why I'm willing to spend our mid-late first on a very talented player
2.)T.Y. Hilton, WR, Florida International University
Game-Breaking speed at the wide receiver position is a definite must, and he would fit in a Percy-Harvin type role with Tebow.
        3.)Mike Martin, DT, Michigan
We need some DT depth to help grow in our rotation, and Martin has been a bright spot on a good Michigan team
        4.)Chris Rainey, HB, Florida
Speed is a must at the running back position, and he can help run outside option plays much more effectively then any back we have currently. He is a nice change-of-pace back
        5.)Offensive Line Depth
Along with the centre, or guard taken in free agency, which every was not signed can be drafted here
        7.)Defensive Line Depth
Jeremy Beal-like pick, no risk, maybe high reward DE

        Depth Chart
QB - Tim Tebow, Brady Quinn, Adam Weber
HB - Willis McGahee, Knowshon Moreno, Chris Rainey, Jeremiah Johnson/Mario Fannin
FB - Quinn Johnson/Free Agent, Virgil Green
WR - Marques Colston/Robert Meachem, Demaryius Thomas
WR - Eric Decker, D'Andre Goodwin
        SR - T.Y. Hilton
TE - Daniel Fells, Julius Thomas, Virgil Green, Dante Rosario
LT - Ryan Clady, Tony Hills
LG - Zane Beadles, Free Agent
C - JD Walton, Draft Pick
        RG - Chris Kuper
RT - Orlando Franklin, Tony Hills

RE - Elvis Dumervil, Jason Hunter
NT - Brodrick Bunkley, Mike Martin
UT - Marcus Thomas, Ty Warren/Ryan McBean
LE - Robert Ayers, Jeremy Beal
WLB - DJ Williams/Wesley Woodyard, DJ Williams/Wesley Woodyard
MLB - Joe Mays, Nate Irving
SLB - Von Miller, Mike Mohamed
CB - Champ Bailey, Janoris Jenkins
CB - Tracy Porter/Terrell Thomas, Cassius Vaughn
NB - Chris Harris, Syd'Quan Thompson
FS - Rahim Moore, Kyle McCarthy/Free Agent
SS - Quinton Carter, David Bruton
        K - Matt Prater
        P - Britton Colquitt
KR - Chris Rainey, Cassius Vaughn
PR - Chris Rainey, Syd'Quan Thompson, Cassius Vaughn

I like most of it, but there are a few issues, IMO.

There is a 2% chance that Quinn resigns. He never got a shot, after reportedly being the number 2 quarterback.
I would keep Kevin Vickerson, at least through camp.
You forgot to mention Ty Warren
T.Y. Hilton is a good player. I had him mocked here, but I definitely don't think he'll go in the second, and hopefully of he does it won't be to us.
I agree with getting a fullback, but Larsen is much better than Johnson.
Rainey in the 4th would be a slight reach, IMO, in a spot where we could land a legitimate number 2 "Fox" back like Boom Herron
          I love the Porter-Colston signings

Larsen will resign cheap, has gotten better and done a decent job this year, plus he's a special teams dtandout, not sure why you wouldn't want that.

Matt Willis is a decent 4th WR, he isn't great but isn't horrible, again he's pretty good on special teams, I'd resign him because he'll be cheap.

Vickerson was pretty good for us last year, as shown by his contract extension. He's better than Mitch Unrein, who is currently our 4th DT, plus our top 2 DT's are free agents, cutting him doesn't make much sense to me.

Perrish Cox was also an elite talent who fell due to off the field issues, turns out he dropped for a reason! I got so sick of hearing constantly about Broncos off the field arrests and issues, this season has been a breath of fresh air (for the most part) I think they need to keep building with good character guys. There are plenty of quality corners available who weren't thrown off their college teams for MULTIPLE arrests.

Well we still need a pass rushing guy who can penetrate and play as effective 3 tech, I like Thomas, Mcbean and Bunkley and all 3 must be resigned however we should add another guy to that as Vickerson is pretty average.

              Re-Signings/Cuts
              Brady Quinn - Re-Sign
No. He will go somewhere with a chance to start and he could probably go to some places and start or at least have a shot to. Washington for example.

              Spencer Larsen - Walk
              Daniel Fells - Re-Sign
              Eddie Royal - Walk
              Russ Hochstein - Walk
              Jason Hunter - Re-Sign
              Brodrick Bunkley - Re-Sign
              Joe Mays - Re-Sign

              Matt Prater - Re-Sign
              Marcus Thomas - Re-Sign
              Wesley Woodyard - Re-Sign
              Stanley Daniels - Cut
              Agreed

              Mario Haggan - Walk
No. He has very good versatility. He should at least be kept around for camp. Mohomad will hopefully be better and hopefully can take that spot however he should be back for camp and probably on the rister again.

              Matt Willis - Walk
He is a good depth wide receiver. Keep him. Re-sign for vet minimum.

              Kevin Vickerson - Cut
              Andre' Goodman - Cut
Iffy on this. Goodman can still play. I would keep him unless you upgrade in free agency and draft a young guy also.

Vickerson I would agree with but keep for camp and compete with Mitch Unrein. Mitch is pretty good in limited snaps.

              Brian Dawkins - Retire
I doubt it. Guy can still play.

              Free Agency
              Sign Tracy Porter/Terrell Thomas
Both have injury concerns which may let the Saints/Giants see fit that they go find new homes during free agency. Porter seems like a more likely candidate due to his familiarity with Dennis Allen as his secondary coach in New Orleans
Either or. I would prefer Terrell Thomas but I could be happy with Porter. Terrell is better suited to starting. I love his physicality.

As long as Tebow is at QB none of these guys are coming to Denver. Yea yeah money talks but they will get there money regardless. And get to play there game as well. A realistic option is someone like Chaz Schillens.

              Sign a true blocking fullback
Give Quinn Johnson competition in camp, Virgil Green as an H-Back back-up to whoever wins the job. Larsen isn't the answer long-term
I agree Larsen is not the fullback option long term. However he is getting better but I would like to see him go somewhere to have a shot at playing linebacker. I liked him at backer. However I like Johnson as the long term answer. As a free agent for low money you wont get much better.

              Sign a back-up guard/centre
Back-ups in the interior of our offensive line are needed
I like Ramirez however the other guys not so muhc. Chris Clark and Tony Hills are decent backup tackles so we are set there. And the guy on the practise squad from Arizona I like a lot. Adam Grant. That is decent tackle competition in camp and bring in another one in the draft late to compete but a veteran guard would be good.

He is talented and would not mind him in the first at all. Extremely talented.

2.)T.Y. Hilton, WR, Florida International University
Game-Breaking speed at the wide receiver position is a definite must, and he would fit in a Percy-Harvin type role with Tebow.
To high for him for us. I think if you wait around to the 4th round you can get guys like Joe Adams who have just as much explosivness and speed and are just as good. If you go receiver here I would want the Baylor guy Kendall Wright.

              3.)Mike Martin, DT, Michigan
We need some DT depth to help grow in our rotation, and Martin has been a bright spot on a good Michigan team
I like our group right now and we do need to add talent to that group however I do not know much about Martin. I think Crick will fall a lot and I would love him.

              4.)Chris Rainey, HB, Florida
Speed is a must at the running back position, and he can help run outside option plays much more effectively then any back we have currently. He is a nice change-of-pace back
Not in the 4th round. No thanks. Maybe in the 5th but I think there will be more talent available at this pick. I would prefer a better running back like Cyrus Gray here.

              5.)Offensive Line Depth
Along with the centre, or guard taken in free agency, which every was not signed can be drafted here
              7.)Defensive Line Depth
Jeremy Beal-like pick, no risk, maybe high reward DE
              Depth players I agree.

              Depth Chart
QB - Tim Tebow, Brady Quinn, Adam Weber
HB - Willis McGahee, Knowshon Moreno, Chris Rainey, Jeremiah Johnson/Mario Fannin
FB - Quinn Johnson/Free Agent, Virgil Green
WR - Marques Colston/Robert Meachem, Demaryius Thomas
WR - Eric Decker, D'Andre Goodwin
              SR - T.Y. Hilton
TE - Daniel Fells, Julius Thomas, Virgil Green, Dante Rosario
LT - Ryan Clady, Tony Hills
LG - Zane Beadles, Free Agent
C - JD Walton, Draft Pick
              RG - Chris Kuper
RT - Orlando Franklin, Tony Hills

RE - Elvis Dumervil, Jason Hunter
NT - Brodrick Bunkley, Mike Martin
UT - Marcus Thomas, Ty Warren/Ryan McBean

CB - Champ Bailey, Janoris Jenkins
CB - Tracy Porter/Terrell Thomas, Cassius Vaughn
NB - Chris Harris, Syd'Quan Thompson
FS - Rahim Moore, Kyle McCarthy/Free Agent
SS - Quinton Carter, David Bruton
              K - Matt Prater
              P - Britton Colquitt
KR - Chris Rainey, Cassius Vaughn
PR - Chris Rainey, Syd'Quan Thompson, Cassius Vaughn
I do not really like the draft all that much. I agree we need explosivness but that can be had in the 4th and 5th rounds. In the first 3 I think you need to get a corner, defensive tackle and a running back who can carry the load down the road.

              So like:

              1-CB-Janoris Jenkins
              2-RB-Montee Ball
              3-DT-Jared Crick
              4-WR-Jarius Wright
              5-WR-Greg Childs

PS: Could not be bothered re reading over the long post so excuse the sentances which may be jumbled or mis spelt.

                Broncos 2012 Mock Draft!!!

1st round: Dre' Kirckpatrick CB Alabama- Dont get me wrong i love our secondary but these guys are getting up there in age, he'd be a good backup and might develop into a pretty decent starter by next year.

2nd Round: Cordy Glenn OG Georgia- Our offensive line is pretty good but theres one obvious weak-link, it starts with Zane and ends with Beadles. Cordy Glenn is great at run blocking and it looks like we're gunna be running it quite a bit with Timmy Tebow at QB.

3rd round: Rueben Randle WR LSU- Lets face it, our recieving core isn't the best. Erick Decker has been solid these last few weeks and i still believe Demaryus Thomas is gunna turn out to be a good reciever, but i have a feeling Eddie Royal might be let go and Randle would be a good replacement.

4th round: LaMichael James RB Oregon- This would be a great pick for the broncos if he happens to fall down this far. Willis McGahee has been spectactular this year but he's not getting any younger and Knowshon looks like a bust .. Also, LaMichael plays the option offense at oregon so he'd be a great fit with Tebow.

5th round: George Iloka FS Boise St- Like I said before our secondary is getting old, who knows how many years Brian Dawkins has left, I know they drafted Rahim Moore last year but i think he'd be better suited as a CB. At 6'3 220 Iloka is a good tackler.

7th round: Kellen Moore QB Boise St- With Orton out of the picture and Brady Quinn likely leaving this offseason, the broncos need a backup for Tebow with all the hits he takes (and gives).
                NINE FIVE PLUS FO PENNIES!!

                Giants Gm

                Trade Block:

Off limits: Eli Manning, JPP, Hakeem Nicks, Justin Tuck.

Will listen to deals for pretty much anyone else.

                Broncos 2012 Mock Draft:

                1)Leonard Johnson
                2)LaMichael James
                3)Mike Martin
                4)Vontaze Burfict
                5)Russel Wilson
                5)Jarius Wright

Well we still need a pass rushing guy who can penetrate and play as effective 3 tech, I like Thomas, Mcbean and Bunkley and all 3 must be resigned however we should add another guy to that as Vickerson is pretty average.

No. He will go somewhere with a chance to start and he could probably go to some places and start or at least have a shot to. Washington for example.

                  Agreed

No. He has very good versatility. He should at least be kept around for camp. Mohomad will hopefully be better and hopefully can take that spot however he should be back for camp and probably on the rister again.

He is a good depth wide receiver. Keep him. Re-sign for vet minimum.

Iffy on this. Goodman can still play. I would keep him unless you upgrade in free agency and draft a young guy also.

Vickerson I would agree with but keep for camp and compete with Mitch Unrein. Mitch is pretty good in limited snaps.

I doubt it. Guy can still play.

Either or. I would prefer Terrell Thomas but I could be happy with Porter. Terrell is better suited to starting. I love his physicality.

As long as Tebow is at QB none of these guys are coming to Denver. Yea yeah money talks but they will get there money regardless. And get to play there game as well. A realistic option is someone like Chaz Schillens.

I agree Larsen is not the fullback option long term. However he is getting better but I would like to see him go somewhere to have a shot at playing linebacker. I liked him at backer. However I like Johnson as the long term answer. As a free agent for low money you wont get much better.

He is talented and would not mind him in the first at all. Extremely talented.

To high for him for us. I think if you wait around to the 4th round you can get guys like Joe Adams who have just as much explosivness and speed and are just as good. If you go receiver here I would want the Baylor guy Kendall Wright.

I like our group right now and we do need to add talent to that group however I do not know much about Martin. I think Crick will fall a lot and I would love him.

Not in the 4th round. No thanks. Maybe in the 5th but I think there will be more talent available at this pick. I would prefer a better running back like Cyrus Gray here.

                  Depth players I agree.

I do not really like the draft all that much. I agree we need explosivness but that can be had in the 4th and 5th rounds. In the first 3 I think you need to get a corner, defensive tackle and a running back who can carry the load down the road.

                  So like:

                  1-CB-Janoris Jenkins
                  2-RB-Montee Ball
                  3-DT-Jared Crick
                  4-WR-Jarius Wright
                  5-WR-Greg Childs

PS: Could not be bothered re reading over the long post so excuse the sentances which may be jumbled or mis spelt.
pretty spot on. I love the mock, with the exception of having 3 receivers. I would like to go for 2 but if we can get a steal of another athletic tight end (Hernandez/Jimmy Graham) esque I would go for it, even though we have Julius Thomas. I had us taking Aaron Hernandez in the third, and i wish we would have. Match up nighmare.

Zane Beadles has been great all year. Give me a break on that.

                    1. I'd love Kirkpatrick
                    2. Don't like this pick
                    3. Not bad, BPA WR wouldn't be bad here.
                    4. James isn't making it,to the 4th no way no how
                    5. Safety depth is a concern, no problem
                    7. Kellen Moore will be gone by the 7th

I'd love Kirkpatrick. I think in round 2, (if we got Kirkpatrick), we go DT. Probably one that can rush the passer. Round 3 I see us going RB though.

Exactly, the posters who continue to state Beadles and Walton have to be replaced might as well be wearing a sign that says 'I have no idea what I am talking about.'

                        1) Kirkpatrick will be long gone by the time the Broncos pick. He won't get past Tampa.

                        2) We have much bigger needs than OG.

                        3) We definitely need another couple of WR's...preferrably one that returns punts to replace Eddie Royal. Baylor's Kendall Wright is a player to watch.

                        4) LaMichael won't get out of the second...he would be absolute death for an indoor team, just like Sproles has been for NO. If I'm Inday, I follow up Luck with LaMichael James in round two.

                        5) Iloka would be a good pick here, but we need another corner more.

                        6) No way Kellen Moore lasts until the 7th. He won't get out of the 4th...and maybe goes to us as early as the 3rd.

Thanks guys. Worthy looks to be a beast of a DT availiable in the late first. So that would make a great fit for us.

We would be throwing most of the money at Finnigan but there are other options at CB that could start opposite champ.

As for Ted Ginn jr, I have always been a huge fan of this guy. If Eddie leaves this guy comes in and picks up where he left off.

Smokebasset, Jones is one of the top rated Centers coming out for the draft. I think currently he is second on alot of big boards. And you usually dont hear about good lineman unless there Kalil. Everyone wants to talk about the skilled postions. ie Blackmon and Richardson.

                            1. Kirkpatrick or Claiborne would be good pickups for us. Andre Goodman is decent in coverage, but his inability to make tackles is killing our defense on crucial plays.

                            2. Don't agree with this pick. If anything, we need to draft someone who can play RT so we can move Franklin inside. Beadles and Walton weren't that great at the start, but they have drastically improved, and are a bright spot on our OL.

                            3. Wouldn't be mad with this pick. Our receivers, save Decker, have been pretty terrible. I think Eddie should strictly be a KR/PR, and we fine someone more reliable.

                            4. James will be gone by the 2nd or 3rd round. MAYBE Doug Martin falls to the 4th, but I also think he's gone in the 3rd round. I would like us to draft a RB though, but definitely not in the 1st round.

                            5. I'm a Boise fan, watch every game, and I would love to get Iloka. He's big, has decent speed, and he can tackle like a beast. I think he's worth a shot with a 5th rounder.

                            7. There is no chance Kellen Moore falls to the 7th. He's going in the 3rd-4th round. But considering that Tebow will likely be the only QB on our roster next season, I wouldn't be upset with us drafting Moore in the 3rd or 4th. He's a lefty like Tebow so our receivers would be used to catching passes from a lefty should Tebow go down with an injury. He can play under center, and he can run the spread. Being in the Boise offense, he could likely run the option, but it would basically mean he wouldn't be running the ball himself.. lol. If we still want to run the option, we could also just pop in Adam Weber, as I believe he is fast and athletic enough to be a threat.
