Anthems and Protests ---
While we certainly understand the frustration by fans on all sides of the discussion, we have decided to keep the Broncos Country message boards separate from politics. Recent events have brought the NFL to the forefront of political debates, but due to the highly emotional and passionate discussion it tends to involve, we think it’s best to continue to keep politics and this forum separate. Yes, the forum is meant for discussion, but we’d like to keep that discussion to football as much as possible.
With everything going on in our country, it would be nice to keep our complaints and cheers purely related to football here. If you feel passionately, there are plenty of other outlets available to you to express your opinions. We know this isn’t the most popular decision, but we ask that you respect it.
Thank you for understanding.

TBH- Im not sure he ever really wanted it bad enough.....
Hate to say it, but I think its the truth.
Really ? Maybe he just thought that he had no shot. I suppose it is good in a way cause he wouldn't have been to disapointed when he didn't get drafted or picked up. But I feel like if I was close I would try relentlessly to get better

I think that Burfict signing his letter of intent to play at ASU really hurt him. Burfict was the highest rated player that had ever signed in ASU history. He was certainly going to get his shot to play early. When that happened I think that Gerald started second guessing his decision to play at ASU over CSU or Utah. He started a few games as a true freshman and was named PAC 10 defensive player of the week as a Sophmore once, but then Burfict signed his letter to play at ASU and Gerald had to take a back seat. Gerald lost a lot of playing time and IMO a lot of confidence in the process.
I think he got into a slump that he never recovered from. But one thing he always said was Burfict was one of the best football players he had ever seen. And coming from a pac 10 athlete its a pretty high praise.

Yeah he should of transfered. Did he think about it ? What did he say about him as a team mate.
you put a lot of effort into that post and i respect how far you went to give your opinion but ive watched the USC and Oregon youtube game films of this year. he's fast athletic aggressive at times over pursues but for the most part is decent in coverage a sure tackler and disruptive. im not a nfl draft scout by any means but i want what ive seen in those 2 films on this team.
hes widely considered the best talent out of that school since terrel suggs, he turned out alright
That may true, but they are not comparable. As an ASU alumni and someone who has watched every ASU game the last 10 years, I can safely say Suggs is on a different level then Burfict. He was literally unblockable. Has the NCCA record for most sacks and most sacks in a season.
But...depending on the board, I wouldn't mind taking him. He is a great run defender, and was better in the pass game this year. He has top 10 talent. I just think he needs to grow up, and I think we have the coaches/leadership for that. He could be such an intimidating player at times.
I don't know what the front office will do, but I would keep Mays and let Irving develop behind him. I think Mays is underrated. The reason we seldom heard his name this season was that our defense was rather good at defending the run. As a result, opponents often went to 3-receiver sets, and we went to the nickel, in which Mays did not play. When Mays was in, he would frequently jam lead blockers, freeing up other players like Dawkins to make the tackles.

When I watch him during the game he misses alot of tackles.
There is a reason they drafted Nate Irving in the 3rd. They saw something in him that they liked, and I'm sure they expect a full offseason will help him grow and he very realistically could be our starting MLB, it will then become a matter of what downs he will play.
Before the injury, he was an unquestioned 3-down LB. He may not be anymore, but I know that his instincts, agility, and his leadership will all be huge additions to this D.

A lot of people are pining for Luke Keuchly, but the reality is that Irving compares to him actually pretty well.
Nate Irving ran a 4.74 40 leading up to the draft. It's widely thought that that is about where Kuechly will run.
If you look at the scouting reports, it's almost like reading the same one twice. Both had the same knocks (athleticism, speed, needs bulk) but have very similar positives (rare instincts, nose for the ball, great at shedding blockers, good agility, mean streaks, leadership...).
I'd feel much more comfortable knowing that we gave the guy who we drafted already with a high 3rd rounder (#67 overall), before we would go out and get Kuechly, Burfict, etc.
I think Irving is going to really become a key cog in our defense for years. He was a magnificent linebacker in college, and the way he plays with that mean streak yet still under control is very promising. I would honestly let him have the reigns, tell him it's his D to man in the middle, and see if he can take off with it.

You must have been watching different games than most of the rest of us. Half of the time Joe Mays would just run straight into the wrong gap and take himself out of the play. When he didn't do that, he was frequently missing tackles.
