I realize a lot of people on here can't distinguish between my critiques of Tebow's skills and "hate," but I know a lot of people that have to see the world in black and white like that. Hell, I used to teach 150 of them every day.

For those who were not in my 7th grade Humanities class, I'll say what I've always said about Tebow; he doesn't need to be pushed.

Tebow pushes Tebow. Elway will push Tebow to be the best Tebow Tebow can be. So will Fox.

We don't need anyone to push Tebow. Tebow can either do it or he can't.

Tim Tebow is a very hard worker.

No one brought into camp could possibly push Tebow harder than he pushes himself. You don't need to light a fire under his ass. He lights his own... Ass... Wait...

    He's a self-starter. Let's say that.

All we have to decide is if Tebow is going to be our guy. If so, Tebow will work amazingly hard all on his own. We don't need to worry about pushing him. He pushes himself.

I think that if you bring in another quarterback, it's so that you can go another way entirely.

If you're just looking for a backup, you can get one relatively easily later in the draft that we can just kind of chuck in there and hope for the best. We're not getting another Tebow though, and he's either your guy or he's a tight end. He cannot be plugged into any other system, and no other quarterback can ever be plugged into his.

So if Tebow's such a great competitor, then why would he shy away from a competition with another QB?:2cents:

    Make that two of us

How people think he should be handed the job after so many dismal performances is absolutely stunning.

Defense, special teams and McGahee were the main reasons we got to where we are this season.

Beadles did pretty good last year against the Colts. And IIRC, he didn't allow a sack.

EDIT: Coming out of College, Beadles was regarded as an ELITE LT. The main problem that Scouts had with him was they felt his arms were to short to be a OT in the NFL.

Do you know how long it takes to develop linemen?

NOTHING is proven in someone's rookie year.

Which high name backup do you propose we go after with our #25/#26 overall draft choice (which we'd then spend on a backup)?

When you pick one, then explain what it is about him that will make it easy for him to come in and work with this offensive scheme if Tebow gets hurt or gets benched.

I don't follow college ball much, so maybe there's one out there. If so, share your insights.

Then again, I don't think putting your quarterback through this much abuse is all that great of an idea to begin with.

There are some pretty tough quarterbacks out there, but they still wouldn't be the kind that could run the way Tebow does, although they might make up for it with being able to throw better. In fact that's probable. But then we're not going to be able to run as effectively and the defense can go back to a more conventional scheme against us as well.

I dunno. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Really, the only option we have if we want to keep this scheme in place is for Tebow to get better - a lot better.

Yup. This is the crux of it isn't it?
I agree. I've been saying for the longest that I don't believe in our O-Line. I think they will be pretty good at the ZBS, but they suck at the PBS. I still say we need to move Beadles to RT, Franklin to LG, and bring in another OC. That could work better instead of trying to find replacements for atleast 2 of those spots.

Who do you get to back Tebow up? Who could Tebow back up?

    No one.

He's got such an unconventional skill set, that you don't really ever have a competition that's straight up like that with Tebow. The offense is either designed for Tebow, or it's an offense Tebow can't work with. If it's designed for Tebow, others can't work with it.

Tebow is so unconventional that it's kind of an "all-in" with him. He's either your guy he's not.

There is no pushing Tebow, and Tebow will never push any other conventional quarterbacks, because they're so incredibly dissimilar.

The automatic response is to "go get another unconventional quarterback." That's just not realistic though. How many quarterbacks have there been that can power run up the gut, run the option, and throw remotely well? If we look at the entire NFL, I can count them on one finger currently.

I don't think there's any "pushing" of Tebow to be done. He's either your guy or he's not.
Umm, draft a QB coming out of college ? One that already runs the spread option ?

I've been saying for atleast a month now that I don't think Tebow will be guranteed the starter for next YEAR. I still think he's going to be a week to week starter, and the 1st 4-5 weeks will be crucial for him.

The thing with McCoy is that I believe his hands are tied. As much as I hate this offense, I think the playcalling sucks mainly because they don't trust Tebow with the ball in his hands to much. Another thing is, this offense is tailored to Tebow strengths. IIRC, they sat down and asked him what he's comfortable with. And because of that, I can't put the blame all on McCoy.

It's simple, if we want to see better playcalling, Tebow has to get better as a QB.

Tebow and competition in one sentence is funny to me. We all know that Tebow isn't a good practice player. So he's doomed from the start. Especially in practice where 4th qtr/OT comebacks don't matter.

If we sign/draft an athletic QB, it won't be for this offense. I think they will be very good passers which will force Tebow to either get better as a QB or ride the pine.

On the having a similar backup I don't think it is necessary. Now in the off season Tebow should be working on all of the things quarterbacks are expected to do in the NFL. You will get people saying about you don't need to make him a pocket passer but really what other type of quarterback is there. All quarterbacks need to play from the pocket and you cannot get a quarterback out of the pocket on every play. And either way in or out the pocket he needs to be able to read a defense and also it would help if he threw a spiral.

After this off season I expect us to get rid of the option and keep the zone read but the option stuff has been pretty useless for a while now. It has worked off an on but not consistantly.

I think the second round should be the quarterback round for us. Even if it is the old man Brandon Weedon or Brock Osweiler. Both would be very good additions. Still would love to get Ryan Mallet also.

I agree with you to a certain extent. I know that Tebow has a unique skill set, but he still needs to be able to throw from the pocket. He's a warrior, and I love the guy. However, until Tebow PROVES he's capable of being an efficient and consistent passer, we have to find some sort of competition. I don't think it has to be the same style, but there needs to be someone behind him as insurance.

I'm not betting against Tebow, but he's got to show improvement next year, big time.

all we should keep is the zone read, and we wont need a qB to run the zone read, one that will play the game we can varate it out but we need a top back QB

(But yah excellent post Al, I completely agree. Either we're in or we're not. Tebow is like the guy who bets the house on 3 Kings in a game of Texas hold em. Lol.)
