More wishful thinking if anything, but it would be nice. Do agree on Ayers, he does the little things right unlike some players on our D.

Yeah I'm not sure about Beal. I was a huge fan of his coming out of Oklahoma and I thought that he had the burst off the snap and body stature to remind me of Trent Cole. However, despite the decent burst (I know his long speed is terrible), he really wasn't able to dislodge blockers and turn the edge like he had at Oklahoma. Hopefully he's just learning and he can turn a corner (literally and figuratively).

To label Robert Ayers as ineffective simply because he doesn't get sacks is misguided. He's a consistent run-stuffer, and a very good one at that. The guy always plays with discipline which is very hard to find. He's not a sack master, nor will he ever be, but he does serve a purpose.

I don't even care if he becomes a "sack master" but only 2 sacks with Doom and Miller commanding all the attention is kind of sad. He offers very little in terms of pass rush. I used to have hope for him since last year he always seemed to be a slit second away from getting a sack (but always just a bit late). I wish he would put on weight and we could use him as a DT in the 4-3. He and Bunkley would be pretty solid in the middle; and if we had Dumervil, Miller, and Mercilus coming off the edge our defensive line would be nasty. I think that would be his best position because, as you said, he is solid against the run.
