I'm actually very excited about this game since I haven't been able to dedicate my time to a full Virginia Tech ballgame this year. I usually enjoy watching them, but for some reason never really got a chance to enjoy a full game of their's this year. I'm pretty excited to watch David Wilson who has caught my eye.
Wilson is a burner, the guy can go, and if the Broncos want to move forward with McGahee as the bell-cow back, then maybe Wilson would be just the type to bring in for him as a sort of reliever. He's a bit different from McGahee as he is shorter, but still possesses good power, and I love his acceleration. McGahee doesn't necessarily get going quick, and a guy like Wilson would bring a very different look coming out of the backfield with his quick acceleration, yet still be able to carry it inside effectively. He's got some real potential in the future, but it would be nice to ease him into the NFL, and he's also got to work on the little things. Anyhow, I'm going to be keying on him tonight to see how he shows up against Michigan.
The other guy I'm looking forward to watching is Jayron Hosley. He reminds me of another former Hokie who had similar knocks coming in to the NFL. He's not a burner, but he's got nice hip fluidity, he doesn't have the best size, but neither did the other guy he reminds me of. That guy? Brandon Flowers.
I think the only thing that really separates the two of them is that Flowers was a great CB at coming up and playing a part against the run with his physicality. Hosley is a willing tackler, and a pretty good one at that, but he doesn't have the physicality of Flowers in coming up and trying to deliver a big hit. Both had great ball skills (Hosley had 9 INTs in 2010), both play bigger than they are, and they both have some really great agility with some of the best footwork. I'm not saying they are the same player or that Hosley can be Flowers 2.0, but I always find it interesting when I see two very similar guys coming from the same position, from the same team, and from a coach who really knows how to find talent (This was me trying to say that I'm guessing Flowers and Hosley were similar in Beamer's mind).
