Not really. They were the 3rd worst team in the league this year. The one good year they had with AP was when Favre came back and played out of his mind. A great Rb doesnt make that big of an impact on a team. They hit on the pick and Ap has been great, but if they would have picked Patrick Willis, Leon Hall, Revis or Joe Staley they would probably be better off right now.

I strongly disagree. They have so many team needs it wouldn't be any different with any of those players. Unless they had all of them. This year they were the 3rd worst team in spite of AP. He was on pace to be the top back till he was injured. You can't knock him because the team sucked.

Im not sure if you see what Im arguing here. AP is great, but the position of RB does not make as big as an impact as other positions do. A top CB, top MLB, or a very good LT would probably be more helpful to the Vikings.

The RB position is inherently injury prone because of how many hits they take compared to other positions. AP's been in the league for 5 years now and he had done a good job at avoiding the dreaded knee injury till now. Now that he blew out his knee he'll probably never be the same. This goes back to shelf life. Great RB for 5 years or great at another position for 8+ years?

NFL teams know this. The passing games growing importance and Rb shelf life is why RBs usually fall to the late first or second.

No I get all that. I just don't really care for the argument much. Anyone can get hurt at any time. And the Vikings two years ago would not have made it as far as they did without AP. 2 years ago those other positions were not such big needs for the Vikings as they are now. Another thing you can't fault AP for.

You could make arguments against drafting any elite offensive players in the first round. And then the first round would be nothing but lineman on both sides.
