  • Is Mel Kiper is a hater or a moron?

Saw this on the ESPN chat wrap with Mel Kiper today. Look at the answer he provides to Brett's question.

    http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat...guru-mel-kiper

    Brett (Washington DC)

Do you think the success of Tebow, Cam, and Dalton will change the way NFL scouts rate the potential of spread option QBs?

    Mel Kiper (1:54 PM)

They're all running the spread. Most of these QBs are running spread offenses. I think Tebow still changes positions. You have to evaluate what's going on in college football, it's about the spread. It's what these QBs are doing. It's why Luck and Barkley are highly regarded, because they are running pro style offenses. It is what it is. You have to evaluate them as they are and not holding against them what offenses they run.

    He might be right.

46.5 cmp% is last in the league. Even Ryan Leaf had a higher CMP%

    # 32 in QBR 27.2

    #28 in passer rating 72.9

124 PYPG is last in the league

33 sacks is the 12th most sacked QB

He has been very inaccurate. Terribly inaccurate some of the times.

I know he had dropped passes but so does every Qb.

He will have the off season to improve or else the Broncos will have to go in a different direction.

I hope he does very well and improves drastically.

And if he does not work out at the QB postion. Hopefully he stays with Broncos and can still contribute to the team.

Most of the time he throws the ball away too. Add that in with all the drops and of course the completion % would be low.

I think he knows what he's talking about SOMETIMES, but he isn't the number one guy out there by any means. I'd put Mike Mayock over any others, and I'd put McShay over Kiper. Kiper seems to use his credibility to throw around his gut feeling, and it pisses a lot of people off. Including me, considering I pay for insider mainly for draft coverage.

I dont know why I keep seeing this. Why do people think the Broncos HAVE to do anything? I just find it so bizarre, so bizarre. Especially when they think he only has the one offseason to come out and play like Aaron Rodgers.

Where I am at right now, he is on par with alex smith. IMO with offseason he will be at or on par with Matt ryan. He imo has alreay surpassed Flacco, and a number of other qbs.

Not saying you mean this to xx, just that I see it a lot and its so weird to me that people think they know exactly what the broncos have to do or not do. I think they roll with tebow for at least the next 2 years regardless of how he does.
          So far:
          FA- Melvin Gordon. Brandon Scherff
          1. Kenneth Murray LB; 2. Shenault WR; 2B. Biadazz Center, 3. OT

Wonder if he still thinks Clausen will be one of the best QBs of that draft.

Mike Mayock is the best not only due to his ability to scout players, his willingness to go out on limbs for guys that aren't widely regarded, but I also trust him the most, because unlike other "Draft gurus" he is willing to admit when he's wrong.

He provides adequate reasons why he believes a guy will do this or that in the NFL, and he doesn't pimp the same guys that everyone else does.

Next year will be his 3rd year with 2 full offseasons with team, and 3rd offseason over all.

If he is still bringing up the rear in all the passing stats and SKILLS, He should be gone.

Kiper also regraded the Broncos draft as the same as when it happened. It was a "B" both times.

                    Here's his view:

Summary: I said on draft day that "Denver got the player who could very well have the biggest impact of any rookie" with Von Miller. Technically, that prediction wasn't true, with the way Cam Newton broke so many rookie passing records. But if you think the win-loss record tells the tale and believe the Broncos were more than their quarterback this season, you certainly could make a case for Miller. He was exceptional this season, with 11.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 54 total tackles. Elsewhere, however, there isn't yet much here. Orlando Franklin has played well at right tackle, but Rahim Moore hasn't been quite the player I thought he could be back when he led the nation in INTs as a sophomore at UCLA. Miller makes this a good draft by himself, and there's still development left for several of these picks. I didn't think it was a great draft for Denver in terms of targeting needs, but Miller is the kind of player who transcends a need pick.
Miller alone makes it a B, and then you have to add in the fact we got a 17+ game starter in Orlando Franklin. He may not have been great, but he was definitely serviceable. When you consider teams use top 20 picks on guys who play RT at a similar level to Franklin, and we got Franklin in the 2nd (#46 overall), you've got to love that.

Quinton Carter has made starts, and played a pivotal role in our playoff victory. Nate Irving, Julius Thomas, and Rahim Moore could be considered our project prospects so I understand not necessarily boosting a grade due to them.

Kiper is both. Now if anyone wonders why I dislike the guy, here you go. He refuses to admit he is wrong. And he is wrong often.

If he is still getting us to the playoffs and winning playoff games he needs to stay. Regardless. It usually takes a QB 3 years to get it and despite that tebow was a rook last year, he got nothing. It doesnt count. Thats why in hockey they consider anyone who has played less than 20 games a rookie. Because it takes more than just sitting and watching to get it.

But as you said even if he sucks at QB he is such a redzone threat he needs to be here with the team.

Man the whole he is still a rookie thing is lame. He started in 3 games, He was at the meetings, on the practice field, with the coaches and on the team. (where he should have improved tremendously, but obviously did not, unless he was even more inaccurate when drafted).

I'm not saying 3 games was enough by any means, but a whole year in the NFL is not worthless.

I agree if he is in the playoffs again and winning he should be here. IMO that will not happen again unless he improves dramatically. Broncos got a lot of lucky bounces and capitalized on them over and over. I would prefer not having to do that next year.

Only time will tell, and it's not up to either one of us.

Lets just crush the pats this week that's the now.

                              And countless other things.

This guy cares more about triangle numbers than anything else. He doesn't know football players. He knows athletes.
