  • Mock Offseason

It's been a while since my last mock and I wanted to make a new one before the prospect games start. No trades and will do a full first round mock also.

    Free Agency

Priority number 1: Resign NT Brodrick Bunkley to 5 year 22 million dollar deal. Bunkley has been a great nosetackle for us. He is stout at the point of attack. Brandon Mebane got a similar contract and he had a similar season to Bunk.

Priority number 2: S Tyvon Branch formerly of the Raiders. I could see many Raiders jumping ship considering the team still has no continuity and there isn't any money to vasly overpay the players anymore. Branch would play strong safety for us and could take over Dawkins role with ease. Branch had 109 tackles, 29 of those being assisted tackles. Branch not only is a great tackler, but he flies around the field helps prevent big plays. 3 years 14 million dollar deal. Donte Whitner had a better year in run support during his contract year, but was worse in coverage and Branch's deal is based off his.

Priority number 3: DE Mark Anderson formerly of the Patriots. Anderson was a force his rookie year then fell off the map and was cut by the Bears. He has been a great pass rusher off the bench this year and still has the speed and size to be an elite presence. Fox is great at developing DL, and Anderson would be a 3rd pass rusher off the bench. 4 years 8.5 million.

    Notable others;
LB Wesley Woodyard 3 year 10.5 million
    K Matt Prater 5 year 16.5 million
    P Britton Colquitt 4 year 10.5 million
    DT Ryan McBean restricted tender
DE Jason Hunter 3 year 4.5 million
    ST Matt Willis restricted tender
TE Daunte Rosario 3 year 5.5 million
LB Mario Haggan 2 year 1.5 million
OL Mackenzy Bernadeau 3 year 2 million
QB Josh Johnson 2 year 4 million

    2. St. Louis (2-14) LT Matt Kalil, USC
    3. Washington (5-11) QB Robert Griffin III, Baylor
    4. Cleveland (4-12) WR Justin Blackmon, OKST
    5. Tampa Bay (4-12) CB Morris Claiborne, LSU
    6. Minnesota (3-13) OT Jonathon Martin, Stanford
    7. Jacksonville (5-11) WR Michael Floyd, Notre Dame
    8. Miami (6-10) OT Riley Reiff, Iowa
    9. Carolina (6-10) CB Dre Kirkpatrick, Bama
    10. Buffalo (6-10) ILB Luke Kuechly, Boston College
    11. Kansas City (7-9) QB Ryan Tannehill
    12. Seattle (7-9) RB Trent Richardson, Bama
    13. Arizona (8-8) CB Alphonzo Dennard, Nebraska
    14. Dallas (8-8) G David Decastro, Stanford
    15. Philadelphia (8-8) LB Zack Brown, UNC
    16. New York Jets (8-8) DE/LB Whitney Mercilus, Illini
    17. Cincinnati - from Oakland (8-8) CB Janoris Jenkins, North Alabama
    18. San Diego (8-8) DE/LB Courtney Upshaw, Bama
    19. Chicago (8-8) DE Quinton Coples, UNC
    20. Tennessee (9-7) C Peter Konz Wisconsin
    21. Cincinnati* (9-7) RB Lamar Miller
    22. Cleveland - from Atlanta* (10-6) DE Melvin Ingram, SCAR
    23. Detroit* (10-6) OT Mike Adams, OSU
    24. Pittsburgh* (12-4) OT/OG Cordy Glenn, UG
    25. New England - from New Orleans* (13-3) DT Devon Still, Penn St
    26. Denver* (8-8) UT Fletcher Cox, Miss ST
You all know Cox by now. He would provide interior pass rush and that is needed against the top QBs in the league.

    27. Green Bay* (15-1) DE/DT Jerel Worthy, MSU
    28. Houston* (10-6) WR Kendall Wright Baylor
    29. New York Giants* (9-7) S Mark Barron, Bama
    30. Baltimore* (12-4) Dont'a Hightower, Bama
    31. San Francisco* (13-3) WR Mohammed Sanu, Rutgers
    32. New England* (13-3) DE/LB Vinny Curry, Marshall

2nd: CB Jayron Hosley, Va Tech
Hosley is an agressive ball hawking corner. He is a bit undersized, but he plays much bigger. He has great ball skills. Excellent closing speed. Very good burst. You cannot run a curl route against this kid.

    3rd: WR Joe Adams, Arkansas
Adams is a versatile player who has the speed to be a mismatch against any corner. He is a great return man and is a threat to take any play to the house. He would be a great fit for us if we want to keep the option because he is a very good in space.

    4th: RB/FB Terrance Ganaway, Baylor
Ganaway impressed me with his bowl game. Not by his stats, don't look at those. Those are definitely inflated. But he did show one thing that caught my eye; Ganaway has the speed to be an NFL running back and then some. Ganaway reminds me of Stephen Jackson with his speed and power. Ganaway can also play some fullback and the possible option combos with him, McGahee, Tim Tebow, and Joe Adams can legitimize the option.

    5th: G Joel Foreman, MSU
Foreman is a good guard. Well rounded. Unspectacular. Backup with potential.

    7th: QB Darron Thomas, Oregon
Thomas will be a backup for Tebow and can teach McCoy some things about the option.

Great mock, one of the better I've seen.

-I'd bring back Marcus Thomas, he was our second best DT IMO. Great against the run and got a push up front if not penetration.
-Really skeptical on Ganaway. I've never really been impressed by him, I think he's kind of lacking in the speed department as a running back. He's an interesting FB prospect but I'm not sure how much that is actually worth and if he can block. Kind of reminds me of Marcel Reese though so I guess that is good.
-I love Branch but he's probably going to be pretty pricy. Not sure about that.

I was heavily considering Thomas, but ultimately decided he would be too expensive to be a back up. McBean while definitely not better than Thomas cost half as much.

I think he will run in the 4.5s at the combine.

I really want Branch and I don't think he should be too expensive. But another option could be former Bears and Panters safety Chris Harris. If we limit how much ground he has to cover like we did with Dawkins he could be a good fit here.

I would cut ties with McBean and Thomas.

Seems a decent draft but I don't like wasting a 3rd on Adams when we have that same exact player in Royal. I would keep Royal and use the 3rd somewhere else.

If Dawkins doesn't return, Branch would be my first choice.

We don't need Josh Johnson and Thomas (the Oregon QB). If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Thomas because he would be cheaper.

I would also re-sign Marcus Thomas. We need a big man in there against the run. He and Bunkley make a good tandem on running downs.

Like Cox and Ganaway. Hosley's pretty good, but I don't think we need another young CB. As for Adams, I still prefer Royal. I just think he isn't used very well.

Love the Darren Thomas pick. Could easily come in for Tebow or possibly take over the position. Not as powerful but has a vision and is very on target with passes. Throw in LaMicheal James and you have a deal.

                  Eh, McBean is cheap depth.

Adams is more explosive and is better at breaking tackles than Royal. Adams is also better at beating jams at the line. I don't think Royal is a good comparison for Adams.

Rounds 1, 3 and 4 I love. With or without the option I like Joe Adams. I love Tyvon Branch and that pickup and based off of Whitner's deal that is a great signing. Hate the Josh Johnson pickup and the drafting of the 7th round QB. Zone read is great. Option is horse crap and better not be in the play book next year. Would rather Adam Weber on the team then Darren Thomas. Plus a backup who can actually compete for a starting spot is a key IMO.

                    Good job overall.

If we are going to have running QBs, then I think 3 deep is necessary. I also would like Tebow to have a semi established backup and Johnson is a good option.

If the price is right, then I'm all for resigning Thomas. Much more than McBean, but I don't think it will be good value.

Eventually Champ will need a backup and you can never have enough cover guys.

I think Cornerback should be a priority in free agency.

I would love James in this offense. Actually I like James in any offense. If he could transition to receiver like Percy Harvin then he would be well worth a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Joe Adams is a beast. I want him in orange and blue.

Thomas is more of a throw in. More of a BPA type deal. I wouldn't be surprised if Webber is on the roster as the 3rd string next year.

I like the option, just it needs to be used more sparingly. Not nearly as often as it was. I would like to see more tripple option. That will really loosen up the defense.

I don't think EFX will pay for a corner, and I think Hosley fits our scheme pretty well. I was trying to go for realistic, and if we were realistically going to sign a corner it would most likely be Tracy Porter. And I would take Hosley over Porter.
