Broncos next on Tracy Porter’s free agent tour

ESPN’s Bill Williamson reports that the Denver Broncos will host free agent cornerback Tracy Porter at their club headquarters on Wednesday.

Porter was in Tennessee on Tuesday meeting with Titans officials.

In Denver, Porter’s signing would likely cost Andre’ Goodman his starting job, and potentially his roster spot altogether. Goodman turns 34 before the season and is owed $4.62 million in base salary.

Porter is the top cornerback left on the 2012 free agent market. He has drawn interest from the Raiders, Bengals, Rams, Broncos, and Titans, among others.

Porter was expected to visit Raiders headquarters early this week, but that meeting was postponed after Oakland signed Shawntae Spencer to go along with Ronald Bartell.

I do agree with most of that though, and this would make CB less of a need in the draft.
You sure? I thought it was the opposite

If so, then my mistake and that makes me like him even more

Already posted. I'd try to sign him as soon as he walks through the door.

Well you're right about the run support part but Porter is more of a gambler and will play a more aggressive angles than Goodie ...if you notice, Goodie almost always protects the deep routes by staying on the top of the WR ...he won't undercut much or play underneath as much as Porter will

Can lead to more ints for Porter but also big plays if there's no help over top

Even if we sign him I would keep Goodman and see rather or not Kirkpatrick falls to 25 in the draft.

                  Is it really "for sure?"

Trufant is a former Pro Bowler and All-Pro. He didn't fall off much before his injury. It's yet to be seen if he has rebounded from his injury, but the same can be said for Manning and Tebow.

Porter, on the other hand, gave up a higher completion percentage than almost any corner in the league. Call it what you want, off year, or being bad, but it's not smart to say he's "better than trufant" for sure. He might be a better long term option, but you can't give him the entitlement you just gave him.

Wow, feels really good to see things like this and have the confidence that we are potenitally the best landing spot on a FA's list.

Tiki Barber is a former pro bowler.

Key word is former. Truant is done, back injuries are career killers and he was already declining before injuries.

give me a potential future pro bowler, over a former pro bowler any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. :thumb:

I'm all for Tracy Porter! He's still really young, but still has some pretty good experience (see pick 6 in the Super Bowl). I'm sure Peyton wouldn't mind having him on our side either... :thumb:
I know we want to win now, but I'd still trust him more than Goody or Trufant at this point in their careers.

I am actually surprised how young he is... I don't know why I always thought he was way older. haha

Same! That got me even more excited. Greer is the one who's been around a little longer.

I'd love to sign him, getting some young talent is very much needed at the CB position
