  • Yea, 15.5 tfl is terrible. Fact is you sai the guy got drafte for doing back flips. I think you can admit that is false. Athleticism and measurables that showed his upside, sure. But back flips? CMON MAN

Arm length is a different item. Examples: Jake Bequette has prototypical size for a 4-3 DE (6'5, 270) but he has short arms (32").

Riley Reiff has prototypical size for an OT (6'6, 313) but he has short arms for the position (33 1/4"). Shorter arms than Zane Beadles.

And even those players with ideal height, weight and arm length might lack a quick first step to beat linemen right after the snap.

Size is size is size is size. Melvin Ingram is short, but near ideal weight. Elvis has long arms for his size. They are all important to an extent. For example, shorter guys usually are better penetrators while taller guys are usually more stout against the run. Short armed guys have troubles disengaging from blocks and long armed guys are better at beating blocks. Height, weight, arm length all matter.

JPP was not explosive in college, he was good... But he wasnt elite. Melvin Ingram is a guy I would call explosive from the DE position. A phenomenal pass rusher who makes huge plays that change the outcome of games. Whitney Mercilus is explosive by being able to consistently apply pressure and make plays by stripping QBs.

Maybe you have a different definition of explosive, but that's mine.

TFL in college means nothing when you are huge. A majority of College OL are very very below average.

          • Yea cause every big dude in college gets a ton of TFL. 5.5 sacks, 6 hurries n 15.5 tfl in limited experience and as raw as he was is pretty darn good

            • Do you now get points in NFL games if dlineman can successfully backflip in the middle of a play?

                Da'Quan Bowers.

Similarly physical and build, and Bowers had 20 TFL. If you are huge and athletic, then you should be dominating college lineman. College lineman are often bad in technique, physicality, and athleticism.

                So no, its not impressive.

Whitney Mercilus is just as raw, less physically gifted, played against better NFL talent and put JPPs stats to shame.

                That's impressive.

                • Bowers has a serious knee injur issue that's degenerative to soon be bone on bone. Bowers also ha an absurd amount of sacks and has been in the NFL all but one year. And he was a 2nd round pick, not top 15

I was using him as an example of how big athletic guys should dominant crap lineman. I don't care about what he has done in the NFL so far. He would have been a top 5 pick had he not had the injury.

If you remember last year I was very much against Bowers even saying I wouldn't touch him till the 3rd round, far before anything about his knee came out. Bowers is incredibly raw and lazy. No thanks. Yet... He still way out produced JPP.

                    • I understand your point but I think it's obvious there was more than size that dictated JPPs 2009 year with TFL. high motor, of course size/measurables/athleticism. Like u said, not every college player has strong technique. Agree to disagree. Reyes his a nice prospect, late 1st to mid 2nd prospect. But a back flip hardly predicts his future success n the NFL and a back flip was not the main reason the giants drafted JPP

                        Backflip shows athleticism
                        JPP was drafted off athleticism

Thats all I was trying to say.

Whatever DL coach lands Reyes is going to be very happy, I just hope it's our DL coach.
