  • 2 Year Plan (Superbowl Baby)

Cecil Lammey is huge on Denver taking this guy in the 5th or 6th round to learn under Manning. Says he has a huge upside and big time arm. Does anyone know much about him?

NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper said Thursday afternoon that former McCallie School and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga quarterback B.J. Coleman projects as a fifth- or sixth-round selection.

Kiper, who has aided ESPN's coverage of the draft since 1984, lists Coleman as the No. 7 quarterback available.

"He's got the arm, and he's got the size," Kiper said. "You look at him at 6-3 and change and at 235 pounds, and you look at what he was able to do during his career at Chattanooga. I thought he ran a little hot and cold and had an accuracy issue here and there, but the long-range possibilities are evident."

Coleman, who will compete in Saturday's East-West Shrine Game at St. Petersburg, Fla., had his most productive season with the Mocs as a junior, when he threw for 2,996 yards with 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He threw for 1,527 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions this past season, missing four games due to a shoulder injury, and finished with a 14-15 career mark as UTC's starter.

Rated by Rivals.com as the No. 10 pro-style quarterback nationally in the 2007 class, Coleman signed with Tennessee. He played in three games for the Volunteers during the '08 season, completing 4 of 8 passes for 21 yards, and transferred to UTC after the '09 spring practice.

"You could work to develop him like they did with Matt Flynn at Green Bay and maybe have something three or four years down the road," Kiper said.

Kiper has Stanford's Andrew Luck, Baylor's Robert Griffin III, Arizona's Nick Foles, Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill, Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden and Arizona State's Brock Osweiler ahead of Coleman. He has Luck going first overall to Indianapolis and Griffin fourth to Cleveland, and he expects a sizable gap between those two and the third quarterback selected.

Last year, four quarterbacks were taken among the first 12 picks.

"There is no other quarterback after RG3 to even consider in the first round," Kiper said.

Flynn's been my choice for 2 yrs now.

Young was apart of a BOLD PREDICTION. Along with Luck & RG3.

Stanton was the one I wanted if we chose not to draft a QB.

Coleman is the one I want if we do draft a QB.

If we want to start grooming a guy it's wise to start now.

Coleman has the tools to be a quality NFL starter. He'd really benefit just from being in the same meetings as Manning. Manning won't have to hold his hand through everything, but simply hearing and seeing the way Manning works is tutelage enough.

Completely irrelevant note: I don't know why, but his voice or something about him annoys me during interviews. He kind of sounds like a mix between Chad Pennington and Philip Rivers.

I would rather have Osweiler or Cousins (would take a much higher draft pick), but I would take Coleman over guys like Foles, Moore, and Lindley.

He sounds like Dennis Allen to me

18 is Colemans favorite QB. He mentioned that he watched film on 18 and that's how he improved his mechanics.

I posted this on different thread

                    B.J Coleman
                    6'3''
                    233 LBS
                    Projected Round: 4-5

Coleman started for three years at Tennessee-Chattanooga (though he missed four games in 2011 due to a sprained right shoulder) after transferring from Tennessee, where he lost the starting job during spring practices his sophomore year. He is a good-sized, accurate passer who has shown starting qualities at the next level. He has fourth-round value based on his skill set and production

Coleman's coaches rave about his size, his arm strength, his football IQ. What they really marvel at, though, is Coleman's work ethic and leadership ability.

STRENGTHS Coleman has a quick set-up and plays with a good sense of urgency. He is athletic when scrambling and can place it on receivers both in the short and long passing situations. He is a leader and makes good decisions. Coleman can really drive the ball into his receivers and shows NFL-level zip on his throws.

WEAKNESSES Coleman has struggled with his route progression and being able to locate second receivers. He is aware in the pocket but can get rattled by pressure at times and will hold onto the ball and take sacks rather than distribute to viable outlets.

If we can't get Osweiler, THIS is the guy I want!!!

EFX are looking for a QB to groom for the future and if they want a QB in the mold of a "classic, pocket passer", then Coleman would be an IDEAL mid-late round guy to groom for the future.

DEFINITELY influenced and models himself after Manning.

I agree! We don't want to end up with a Curtis Painter situation. I am all for Brock or BJ.

I'd be okay with Osweiler, too. But seeing how I don't think much separates them, I would be much more comfortable using a 5th on Coleman as opposed to something like a 3rd for Osweiler.

I thought he showed great accuracy at the Shrine Game. He had really good footwork and timing on the short throws, but threw flat footed a little too much on longer throws. Overall though it was a pretty impressive showing for him. If anyone wants to watch the Shrine Game highlights here is a good video:
