  • Broncos working out QB's

The Broncos are bringing in quarterback draft prospects Kirk Cousins of Michigan State and San Diego State's Ryan Lindley for visits this week. A Broncos contingent also flew down to Arizona State last week to give a private workout of Brock Osweiler.

I could see Elway pulling for a guy like Lindley in the later rounds. Tons of physical talent to go along with prototypical size for a QB.

Players we have worked out so far:
    Brock Osweiler (QB)
    Kirk Cousins (QB)
    Ryan Lindley (QB)
    Robert Turbin (RB)
    Kendall Reyes (DT)
    Jerel Worthy (DT)
    Austin Wuebbels (OG)
    Levy Adcock (OT)

I'm sure there are more, but these are the only ones I have been able to confirm online. Anyone hear about other player workouts?

I like him a lot too. I think he goes in the 2nd though (which is too high for us to draft a QB IMO). I think some team will give him the chance to start early in his career, especially after the success that Andy Dalton had as a rookie. I dont think he will ever be elite, but he could be a very solid starter in the right situation.

I don't think they will take a QB higher than the 3rd round and I don't think 3rd round is very likely. Any QB they take will probably be sitting for 2 or 3 years and that would be a waste of a high draft pick. I know teams like GB took Rodgers high and sat him but that was because Favre could have retired at anytime, and did several times. The Broncos need help at other positions, and 2nd and third round picks can come in and start, or play valuable snaps, whereas the backup QB won't.

I think Lindley is an ideal prospect. He has good vision and a good arm. His accuracy needs some work but what developmental player doesn't need that. I also like Foles but I think the FO has fallen off of him due to footwork. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lindley in the 4th at all.

This is good news ! I'm probably reading into it a little too much but ...

To me this says that the Broncos are not going to try to move up in the draft especially in the 2nd rd to try to draft a QB ... Assuming they was happy with Osweiler and he is avaible at that pick then they will draft him ....

However if he is not ... Then there is at least a couple of other prospects that the Broncos will look to go after at a later round ...

One thing is for certain however it seems the Broncos plan on using this draft to draft a QB and learn under Manning ..

I agree with everything you said. I wouldn't rule out Foles completely, but he might have to slide a long ways for the Broncos to take him. I think they like Osweiler the best, but it is likely he is gone in the mid-late 2nd. I could see us drafting him, but like you I think a 2nd or 3rd is too high for us to take a QB.

I'm not sure if we have shown any interest in BJ Coleman, but it seems like he and Lindley fit what we are looking for best.

Hell no to Cousins! I don't want any QB in the first 3 rounds. I'm sure Weeden is off our radar due to his age. Cousins is garbage. If we do take a QB high for some reason, I hope it's Osweiler. He at least has a lot of potential.

I'm hoping for a mid to late round QB just to sit a few years. Somebody like Lindley, Foles, or Coleman in rounds 4-7.

We worked out LaVon Brazill from Ohio with Brock Osweiler I'm pretty sure. Or it was at least around the time we worked out Osweiler.

If Lindley is at our pick in the 4th I wouldn't be surprised to see the FO pick him up

He'd have a ton of time to develop and work on his accuracy issues

Of the QB prospects they're considering at this point, I think it's safe to say Osweiler is the favorite. Depending on how the draft board falls into place,
I'm going to guess that one of these following 4 scenarios will happen.

1.Osweiler falls to us in the 2nd or 3rd round, allowing us to select him.

2.Osweiler is nabbed before our pick, so we go BPA in that round and see what's available for QB's after that.

3.Osweiler is taken and Cousins falls to our pick in 3rd or in the 4th and judging by the intent to bring him in for a visit, they'll like him enough to pick him.

4.All of the top guys except Lindley are taken and we decide to wait until the 4th-5th get get Lindley.

Either way, the actions of the FO this off-season has led us to believe that they WILL use this year's draft to bolster the talent and depth on offense(including a young QB to groom) and to get better on the D-Line. I also don't see them trading up for any of the QB's. If one good prospect falls to them, great, if not, they'll check their board and see what fits best.

I like Lindley too & I agree with all of that. I'd still like to wait a year or two before drafting a QB though but it's not my call!

I will say that with all of the QB talent this year, getting a QB in the 4th this year could be like getting one in the 2nd or early 3rd most years. It's kind of hard to argue with that.

I don't think the Broncos will find Manning's successor in this draft, unless they spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a quarterback. In this case, they would miss the opportunity to add a player that can help the team win now. And they have to win right now with Manning. These mid or late round quarterbacks will probably be backups. When Manning decides to retire, the Broncos will want a top quarterback that can win championships. This type of quarterback is usually drafted in the 1st round. Can you see the Broncos replacing Peyton Manning with a 4th or 5th round pick in a near future?

I think Elway will always demand a lot from the Broncos' quarterback, that's what you expect from a Hall of Fame quarterback working as a decision maker for the organization. Kirk Cousins has a chance. If somehow he is available late in the 3rd round, he would be an interesting choice. Cousins is smart, with enough size and arm strength to be a starter, and he played a lot of quality games in a pro-style offense. He is also a captain, clean off the field.

Brett Favre and Drew Brees were 2nd round picks. Joe Montana was a 3rd round pick. It's extremely rare to find someone like Tom Brady later in the draft. Elway won't be happy with a good quarterback, he wants a great quarterback leading the team.
