  • Okay, my final grade is B/B- for now. It wasn't sexy, and we didn't go after the names the media have been paying attention to (or that fans have been regurgitating to us in mocks), but if you look at the positions we addressed and watch some tape on the guys we took things make sense. I wasn't particularly happy with where we took Osweiler but there are people who know a lot more about the draft than I do that thought we had to take him there. Wolfe and Hillman should be immediate contributors. Bolden could turn out to be an absolute steal depending on how he comes back from his injury. On top of that we added a body at OC and another at DTackle before finishing up with a very solid pick in Trevathan.

We drafted DT, QB, RB, CB, OC, DT, LB. At face value, that's not too dissimilar to what everyone predicted, but the guys we took at those respective positions - and maybe the order of the selections - have surprised us.

This draft class will get a lot of flak because it's not flashy and none of the guys we were all talking about got picked, but there's a reason we're not sitting in the front office and we delude ourself into thinking we know where people should be going every year. Hopefully when everything calms down people will give these guys a chance.

Good post, I agree with everything you stated.

I really like the Hillman pick. Just check this video out. It's SDSU v. Washington State. Washington State is one of the worst Pac-12 teams but Hillman just made them look silly. He runs with power and has amazing lateral movement. Hopefully this guy will push Knowshon for some playing time!

        • 6:10 was absolutely ridiculous.

I like watching compilations from single games like that, you get to see the good and the bad. Thanks for posting.

If one of the teams right behind our #36 spot have picked Worthy, I may have wondered "god, do we really believe we picked the right guy?", but nearly half of the league passed on him. After dropping down so much, I started to expect him to be available at our #57.

But I really wonder what EFX saw in Wolfe that is way better than Worthy, Still, Martin, Thompson etc... They could have easily traded down to late 2nd and picked Wolfe anyway, since nobody were picking DTs in a hurry.
I can tell you what they saw in Wolfe vs the others, it's called a consistant motor and personal preference. Worthy and Still are good prospects, but they are to inconsistant. Wolfe motor and tape was consistant. You can teach a player technique, you can't teach him how to play relentless consistantly. IMO, Thompson and Martin wasn't tall enough or long enough. Malik Jackson is another player we drafted that has a relentless motor. People kept saying that he was a less talented Coples with a better motor. We need players with High motors to get to the QB/RB at any cost.

I disagree with you on Wolfe being available at our late 2nd. Wolfe said that the Ravens were going to draft him before we did, so I seriously doubt he would've made it to our late 2nd especially considering the fact that he can play 5tech.
