  • NFL Draft Countdown Round 1 Mock

Before the playoffs I would've said no way we go after a safety again. Especially not in the first round.

Post playoff game and considering the pick is Eric Reid I absolutely love the pick. But I could easily see it not being the best available player. And I think we will take the best available player even if the Safety position was spotlighted as the weakest link last Saturday.

    • I would be really happy with that pick. He has some nice highlights. I can't post any of them here because people won't upload them without trash music attached.

I'm glad they note the guy I really like in Jon Jenkins from Georgia. He carries 350 so well for a guy that's 6-3. I really believe a guy who can smash the pocket would be as helpful to our secondary as a new safety.

Agreed and that's why I believe Reid will not be the pick. I have a feeling a good quality DT or O lineman will be available that will grade out higher as an overall athlete. And that will be Elways pick.

Our run defense and pass rush improved immensely this season but still showed down the stretch that it could still use a boost. I'd be happy with a beast DT from the SEC but I think I would love Reid as well.

I believe Elway will look for a playmaker in the first round. I don't see a run stuffing DT as an option, for example. As of today, I predict a MLB, DB, or TE in the 1st round.

If they don't re-sgn Koppen and they don't like Walton as OC going forward then I could see an OC as well.

          • I actually feel we will trade back again so we can move up later. I think we will target another pass rushing DT early in the second and move up if a player we like falls.

And moving back I think will be likely as I feel QB's will fall and I don't think KC will take a QB with the first overall pick so they will be looking for one at the start of the second and I can see teams willing to move up to leap frog them to get a QB before them. So that is just my opinion though.

            Adopted Broncos:

I agree that I think we would go for one of those positions you listed. WR is possible too.

                • I don't see Champ playing Saftey. Maybe that's just me but I don't see it. But Denver would bennefit if Amerson was on the field period. And who's to say he can't roam as Strong?

                    • To find the holes on the roster, I first tried to determine what would be a "hole". In my opinion, teams have "holes" when they can't win, can't be competitive enough because of certain positions. When the team is winning, like the Broncos were, maybe the roster does not have a hole. Instead, there are positions that can be upgraded, luxury picks. You're winning, but you can win more convincingly. To me, the defensive backs could be upgraded even when the Broncos were winning. Especially the safeties. Why? Interceptions.

The secondary is lacking turnovers. How many interceptions this season for Rahim Moore and Mike Adams combined? One. Leonhard made two interceptions and he was a backup. And then, after the playoff game, the secondary suddenly looked like a "hole". Joe Flacco threw for 331 yards, 3 long TDs and 0 interceptions. 9.7 yards per attempt. Champ Bailey was abused by Torrey Smith and Rahim Moore made a legendary mistake while Tony Carter was jogging on the field.

The Broncos have no playmakers at safety, so I fully support a FS/SS in the 1st round if he can be special. From what I've seen, Eric Reid seems to be an aggressive tackler, but I have doubts about his impact in pass coverage. Hopefully, Quinton Carter will come back 100% next season and improve the quality of the secondary.

                      • we had to be close to bottom five in TE coverage i think we allowed 14td's passes...we gotta improve that both at S n MLB esp. vs the good teams...but during the streak we had a 7-8 game streak of int's...n btw flacco had all day to throw to no rush at all...

havent had a playmaker/hitter at S since atwater nor MLB since wilson nor DT since trevor pyrce...i know guys like that dont grow on trees but we need more help up the middle...hopefully we land 1 or 2 in FA or the draft...

                        • I like Eric Reid at #28 for Denver. He has good instincts, plays with intensity, can light guys up, and at 6'2" has very good size to cover TEs. Mike Adams is just.... exceptional and that's the problem. The secondary lacks playmakers as is and I think Reid and Moore would be a good combination at safety.

Quinton Carter missed the whole year with a knee injury, so while I wish him a full recovery, I don't think he's in the position to dictate any picks. He did look awesome last year, though.

I expect Denver to go WR, DB, ILB , or RB possibly. Every year there are cries for a DT but I don't see it happening.

                          • Everyone has Baltimore taking Minter. I say we steal him right out from under their noses as payback and to improve our team.

Safety is a need, but so is MLB.

A beast DT helps every position on defense really. The big Aussie NT Jesse Williams from Alabama would be great and his interior presence along with Knighton in free agency(JDR FACTOR AND BETTER TEAM THAN JAGS MEANS HE WILL COME CHEAP)means our interior will become a strength of this team as well as depth re Bannan, vick and Unrein.Move DJ to MLB after a salary restructure and if this off season we can just find one more Carter or Chris Harris and we have hit a massive homerun. If the salary cap guys can get Knighton and one of WR Welker/Edelman or Amendola and maybe retain Tracey Porter after resigning all our free agents we've done very well.2nd round we go WR and get Robert Woods or Stedman Bailey.3rd round we go Virginia OG Oday Aboushi in the 4th if we could get Tarheels ILB Kevin Reddick that would be a steal.I still like our chances of finding a 5th or 6th round Alfred Morris type RB who can do a Jacob Hester type job but much more effective.7th round Id go a kicker to replace Prater I dont care if he kicks 70 yarders in practice if hes missin from 40 when it counts.

I'm starting to agree with this. I wouldn't be surprised to see a kicker come in as competition.
