He's too big of a risk in the first round for my liking, but if he's around at the end of the 2nd he's definitely worth considering. He's supposed to blow up the combine like Poe did last year and while he does have the numbers to back it up they're DII numbers. The Senior Bowl will likely tell the story with him. That said he has the size, attitude, and work ethic that the Broncos will love. If we could bring back Bannan another year he could be the ideal understudy and take over the following year if not earlier.
Here's another great article on him:

Laron Landry..??
He's almost certainly getting out of NY...
Would you guys want him?
I'd say probably not only because he'll cost too much, but (and like with any talented player) if the price was right I'd certainly consider it...obviously with injury clauses...that should go without saying but I'm sure someone would've brought it up

I just don't see the team making any big splashes in terms of names in free agency this offseason. I see us doing what we have done the past few years (Manning is the exception) and signing solid role players at an affordable cost while building through the draft. Remember everyone calling for super Mario last year? Super glad we spent that money on 5-6 other playersLast edited by Matymaddog; 01-04-2013, 02:33 PM.

A lot of people didn't like bringing back Justin Bannan, but I think we can all agree that just like his last time here, he has been a solid player.
We don't need to over spend.sigpic

We do need a safety but i doubt we break the bank for one when we need to re-sign some of our own players (Clady, Koppen, Vickerson, Bannan), and new deals for Woodyard and Decker as well.

Trading Down
It's my opinion that future picks are significantly undervalued by NFL teams. Depending on where the pick is, a team can often get an extra round of value for trading this year's pick for a pick next year. As a rule, to me, this suggests that trading back for future picks is usually a good strategy if a team can find a suitor.
Further, those future picks could even be traded for more picks further down the line and having more picks can be strategically advantageous when an outstanding value is available as more picks can be used as Ammo to move down.
Now, the Broncos are going to have a late pick this year (Hopefully 32nd), but I'm astounded by how few teams have used this strategy. At times the Patriots have used this model to manage extra picks, so it is possible to use this strategy. I think that many teams are unstable in their front offices and coaches and feel the pressure to win quickly, so that undervalues long term strategy.
As a Broncos fan with a stable front office situation as well as having fewer holes than many teams, I think that we have the privilege of using this strategy in ways that many teams couldn't and I hope that the Broncos take advantage of this ability and trade for future picks for years to come.My adopted fan is dogfish

I agree (pretty much). The only player I'm hoping slips to us in the late 1st round is the MLB Ogletree from Georgia. If he's not there then I wouldn't have any issue at all with trading back out of the first round and gaining some extra picks. It's something we did last year, so obviously this FO is not opposed to the idea. But I trust Elway and company to make the right call when draft time rolls around.
