  • Draft position set - who do we target?

Now that the dust has settled and we've all had some time to cope, the best thing we can do is look forward to the inevitably bright future. First up will be this year's draft and judging from Elway's track record, we'll have some exciting new rookies to look forward to. If you were in his shoes, who would you target with the 28th overall pick?

Personally, I'd trade up and select Kenny Vaccaro from Texas. The kid has an unbeliveable skillset and would likely make an immediate impact, bolstering the pass coverage that was painfully exposed in Saturday's game.

The Colorado Avalanche are tanking this very seriously.

Bumping, for this conversation was one I had in mind too. Call it a whimsy, but without knowing the talent out there yet, I am going to go out on a limb and think we draft for "PASS COVERAGE!!!"

If Vacarro is there at 28 I take him. I would not trade up, though. Eric Reid is on the same level as Vacarro, IMO, and I'd rather have him at 28 than move up for Vacarro.

To add on, Robert Woods, Deandre Hopkins, Tyler Eifert, Ezekiel Ansah, and Kevin Minter are other names I like.

I think its going to depend on what we do with Champ. Does he finally switch positions? I would bet there are some conversations that will be had in the next few weeks.

My 13 year old cousin tackles better than Vaccaro. He's not worth trading up for IMO and I don't see him making it past Dallas, Cincy, or Pittsburgh. If he's there at 28 then so be it, but I'd personally take Eric Reid over any safety in this draft.

Austin, Reid, Vaccaro, or even Rhodes I wouldn't mind at 28. Miami probably wants Robert Woods but he would also be a good pick.

I really believe Champ will have to be moved next year. It might be time for Safety after all. I feel bad for saying that, given all he has done, but he was outplayed on Saturday, and looked a bit lost.

In the end, if Bolden is not coming around fast enough, I believe we go after a CB in round one, two or three. But I also believe we go MLB in round one, and RB in round two or three.

Other needs include a fast WR, Guard and another DT.....possibly via FA....or part of the draft.

I have stated that Best Player Available is the route I'd consider, given we have a number of needs, but not of the urgent variety, plus BPA gets you the best overall value.

This is such a deep Safety draft, we do not need to take a Safety in the first round. I mean this draft is loaded with excellent safeties. If we go safety Id rather take my boy out of South Carolina, DJ Swearinger. IMO I feel like he is better than Elam and Vaccarro, and the only reason he doesn't get recognition is because who he plays for. Dj Swearinger brings that Brian Dawkins nastiness to the safety Position. Id take him in the 3rd. He draft stock might rise once his name gets out there more during Senior Bowl, combine, and Pro Day season, if he plays there like he has the past two years.

But anyway, If we go safety I'd go with DJ Swearinger in the 3rd. IMO steal of the draft. Look him up if you like.

I don't think you'll stay at 28, I think you'll trade back and pick up picks. You need: DT, WR, LB, and a lot of secondary help.

I'd draft a CB. Either Jonathan Banks from Mississippi State or Xavier Rhodes from Florida State.

If we draft a safety at 28, I want it to be Elam. FS is Rahim Moore, there's no cutting or trading him whether you like it or not. We need a SS, I know we have Mike Adams and Q Carter.

But Adams, is just too small to match up with these big TE's on pass coverage. Carter is young, and showed promise, but he's injury prone. If Moore is just forever mentally damaged from that play and doesn't play up to expectations we could move Carter to FS, and leave Elam at SS. Carter is better suited playing on the ball, showed some ballhawking skills last years postseason with 2 INTs in the playoffs.

But if you watched the video posted, the opening hit on Spencer Ware at 00:29. Spencer Ware is HUGE, a big power back for LSU and usually bolsters through any and all tackles. To see him go backwards.... Dang. Elam honestly reminds me of Atwater.

I think we stick with picking the BPA at a need position and DL, OL, S, CB, RB. WR and ILB are need positions. Whenever a team starts drafting a player to fill a need at a particular position that is when we come up with #1 draft choices getting cut a year or two later. At #28 we might be able to move back 10 or less positions and pick up and #4 or trade a high #3 for a lot round #3. If we have a good FA period that will also change these need positions.
Yes, several players had a bad game Saturday but we still have a solid team here. Turnovers and a few stupid plays cost us the game not lack of talent. I think if we played Baltimore 10 more times we would beat them 7 of them! Let us not panic. With a good off season, we will be back in the playoffs next season.

I like Barret Jones, one of the most decorated O-linemen I can remember coming out. Very versatile, and very intelligent.
