  • Denver Broncos reportedly will add physical tailback

Knowshon Moreno's knee injury in the Broncos' playoff loss to the Ravens could have offseason repercussions for the running game in Denver.

Knowshon Moreno's second-half knee injury in the divisional round playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens could have offseason repercussions for the Denver Broncos.

As Willis McGahee enters his age-32 season, the Denver Post has intimated three times in the past week that the Broncos are on the hunt for a tailback with size.

Perhaps coach John Fox, a long-time proponent of the ball control offense, believes his team would have hoisted the Lombardi Trophy if either McGahee or Moreno was available for clock-killing mode. With McGahee in street clothes and Moreno sidelined, the Broncos had little success moving the chains behind scatback Ronnie Hillman against the Ravens.

While the declining McGahee and star-crossed Moreno can no longer be counted on for 16 games, the upshot here is that the coaching staff still has concerns over Hillman's size, ball security, and pass protection. His future is as the Mr. Outside complement to a bigger back's Mr. Inside role.

If the Broncos turn to the draft, Alabama's Eddie Lacy is the premier big-back available. He may not be available at pick No. 28, however. Other options include South Carolina's Marcus Lattimore, Stanford's Stepfan Taylor, Michigan State's Le'Veon Bell, and Arkansas' Knile Davis. The top veteran free agents are Shonn Greene and Steven Jackson, whose future in St. Louis remains uncertain.

I'd love a mid- round flier on Lattimore.

Peyton Hillis . Also Rex Burkhead would be nice late round value, I see all the guys listed above as 2-3 round guys after the combine hype hits.

I have no idea whom they are looking at but I totally agree with their logic. It showed in the playoffs after Moreno went out Manning had a lot of pressure.
My worry about Lattimore is WHEN he returns, how much speed will he retain? Lonnie Pryor FB/HB from Florida is another mid rounder they could look at!

Isnt Gillislee a back with some size? Thats who I like. Heck, if we could get Floyd and Gillislee I would be super happy.

This is what I expect to happen. Look at Elways two drafts, he tries to grab starters early, then talented developmental guys and then grabs 1st round players that suffered injuries so they slide to the 3rd round or beyond. I highly expect Elway to bring in a FA running back and try to go hard on a guy like lattimore
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

If Lacy is indeed the real deal trade up and get him.

This article is PURE speculation. I'm pretty sure we will add a back, but I doubt it's high. Is Lacy better than Martin or Richardson from last year? I don't see him in the first round. Here is a good article comparing this year's back to last:

                      1st round:

                      Too early? Okay. 4th round:

So why take a miniature RB (that can be tackled with breath) with a high 3rd round pick when you want a physical RB to carry the load and pick up the blitz? Looking at John Fox's draft history, I'd say Hillman was not his idea.

The Broncos already had a quicker, complementary RB in Jeremiah Johnson. Hillman was just a luxury that kept Johnson out of the final roster.

Montee Ball is exactly what this offense needs.

Not to mention he's a huge Broncos fan.

At the senior bowl I believe Gillislee weighed in at 207. At 5'11" he could easily pack on another 10 lbs like Moreno did. I believe McGahee is around 230, Pryor is 230, Last I saw they had Moreno listed around 210-215, Lattimore is 220 but whom ever drafts him will probably have to sit on him a year to let him to get fully healed.
I like the fact that Gillislee hasn't carried the ball much until last season and his body isn't too badly abused.
Isn't Hester in that 225 lb range.

Guys, this article screams Stephen Jackson, not a rookie.
