  • Austin Collie

Before his concussions he was leading the NFL and was Manning's favorite target. If he is healthy the Broncos should be able to get him cheap and if something goes wrong with him you have Stokley as insurance. He would fit right in, great work ethic and potentially big pay off.

Also it would free up a draft pick as if the Broncos don't sign a WR they are likely to go after one at some point in the draft to eventually replace Stokley.

Low risk, high reward. I don't see why the Broncos wouldn't give it consideration, and like you said Manning really did favour him prior to the concussion.

No thanx. Good player, but can't stay healthy. If we REALLY feel the need to sign a ex-colt, how about we sign Blair White? He didn't put the numbers up that Garcon and Collie did, but he was definately a solid receiver for them.

Before his concussions, the Colts would have kept him. If he were healthy, the Colts would have kept him. You risk losing depth at WR by signing Collie. One hit and he is done. His head can't take it anymore. Even old Stokley can be more durable than Collie. If you put Collie on the roster, it means one less spot for a healthy WR that can actually contribute during the season. And when he suffers another injury and lands on IR, the team will have to find another WR. It's a waste of a roster spot.

Three concussions a ruptured patellar tendon and he is only 27 years old? I personally think he should retire. If we are 100% sure his medical issues are behind him then I would give him a chance on a non guaranteed contract, but I would rather draft a player to either man the slot or push Decker inside.

This is actually kind of interesting though, because I think everyone believes that Collie is at this point a more dangerous WR than Stokley. Collie's injury history is extremely concerning, but signing him to a low contract and provided he makes the team, he'd make us that much more dangerous. But like you said, he's one major hit away from being put on a stretcher (god forbid). If he gets hurt, we can put him on IR and it frees up that roster spot. Then we could bring Stokley back, the chemistry he has with Manning would still be there.

I think we have better options than Collie, but Collie could be a productive player for a real cheap contract. It also gives the Broncos a chance to bring Stokley back at some point.

Why on earth are people constantly sleeping on Stokely??? The guy had a great season last year, and was probably our most consistent cog in the machine... I just don't see an immediate need to replace him based off of last season... Now taking his age into consideration, it would be great to have a replacement on the roster (I shudder at the thought of having Willis as his replacement) ready to hop up and take his place in the case of an emergency such as injury or major fatigue.

If we decide to sign Collie, we can't expect him to be anymore than a 4th or 5th receiver. If this is the thought process behind signing him, fine. But if we expect him to play a major role in our offense and pass on guys like Markus Wheaton, Stedman Bailey or Terrance Williams, then that would be a problem.

So if he was healthy the colts wouldn't have released him? Oh so just like manning right?
A healthy Kenneth Dixon is a top 5 NFL RB.

Cause he's 38 and could easily be injured and lost for the season. It's honestly a miracle that stoke stayed as healthy as he did this year

I don't want the Broncos to have a hand in Collie's death . He really needs to consider his future and retire.

It would be smarter to pick up Stedman Bailey or Ryan Swope in the draft.

The Colts released Manning because they had Andrew Luck available in the draft, so they did not have to guess if Manning would still be able to play at a high level. They had a young franchise QB waiting in the draft. They also looked at Manning's age, then wondered when they would have another shot at a QB prospect like Luck, and made their choice.

Manning's neck has healed and he just had to work to regain some arm strength. He can take hits, and he took several hits last season. Unfortunately, there is not a surgery to repair concussions and eliminate the risk of another concussion. Collie can't get hit in the head anymore. A completely different situation in my opinion. Collie's issue is more comparable to what happened to Jahvid Best, and it looks like Best won't play again.

I wouldn't be surprised if #broncos bring in former #colts WR Austin Collie for a free agent visit, if healthy (concussions) he's a value WR.

@cecillammey at this point might be able to sign him w minimal to no bonus on non-guaranteed deal. silly for them not look into it

it's a move they would make given their current cap situation, if he can only stay healthy, a great fit with Peyton

Seriously? White isn't half the receiver Collie is, and Collie wouldn't cost much more. I'd rather have Greg Orton than Blaire White.
