Tyrann not being good at stopping the run. Because he is hands down the best corner in the draft who can tackle.

You need to be able to tackle in order to play in the NFL and he can't do it mainly because he doesn't spend time in the weight room, those 4 reps were ridiculous. I haven't been to the gym in a good 3-4 years and I'm sure I could bench 5 times.

Also, your comparison to Jenkins is not accurate at all. Jenkins was very successful corner in college, plus he has the physical traits you look for in a corner, if I'm not mistaken he measured close to 6 feet. Mathieu measured 5'8" and a fraction.

He is an aggressive player and from the bits and pieces of film I have seen he is better than Antonio Cromartie at tackling and not shying away from contact. Being able to bench doesn't equate to tackling better. It does probably show up in areas for press coverage and shedding blocks to make a play, something I saw on his tape he struggles with. He takes good angles and is constantly fighting for the turnover is what I noticed. The comparison to Jenkins was not about a physical comparison, it was about character concerns. Jenkins slipped more than he should have and the Rams rolled the dice and got a play maker, something the Broncos could possibly do.

          • Tyrann Mathieu has awful form when he tackles people and often goes for just the strip. It's a fact. The eye in the sky doesn't lie. Go watch his highlights or something. On very few tackles will he break down, wrap up, and drive through a tackle. That's not him.

            • He's looking for a paycheck and all of the sudden NOW he's changed his life and NOW he wants to quit smoking. Deion starts painting him as a victim of the hype surrounding him and blah blah blah...

He'll bounce around team to team until no one wants him anymore.

He's a liar and he can't be trusted.

I agree totally. I mean the guy was arrested for possession and intent to sell just one month after he finished rehab. I have a hard time believing he has changed at all and his physical talent doesn't warrant taking the risk. I would be surprised if he is even on our draft board.

What? He consistently wraps up by the ankles. When trying to take down running backs of ALL sizes. Going for just the strip doesn't seem to hurt Charles Tillman. I guess creating turnovers is some thing new your not supposed to do on defense.

I can see from his highlights that he doesn't wrap up every tackle and tries to blow your legs out instead. He had some trouble with Laceey in one of the highlights and I can see him getting blocked out by bigger receivers and ineffective on blitzes where he has to beat a man. That all being said, I still think he is a good player and I don't think his tackling is as bad as some are making it out to be. He does a champ style tackle but forgets to wrap up from time to time.

You can't even begin to compare Mathieu to Tillman even on the basis of FFs because they do it in different ways. Mathieu doesn't always try to tackle the ball carrier, he often just tries to rip the ball out and I've seen him get dragged 5 yards a few times trying it. Tillman gets a lot of fumbles because he's the 2nd or 3rd player to the ball and he's just punching at the ball. If Tillman is the first defender to the ball he'll just make the tackle and not try to strip because that's how the Bears play defense.

                      • There are a lot of comparisons to Jenkins, yes it's a similar situation but Jenkins had a year away to prove himself and actually play football at North Alabama under Terry Bowden who is a terrific coach in his own right. Mathieu opted to not play transfer and play football somewhere else and then in the same year off he got busted with possession with intent to sell. Jenkins didn't get into trouble when he was at North Alabama. And Jenkins was an elite CB in college with enough height to play on the outside, there were no concerns about his coverage ability.

                          • From what I understand he was given several chances to change by the coach, the coach even got him into rehab which he agreed to do, and after being given another chance it was thrown back in the coaches face thats 1 reason I dont want him he doesnt learn from his mistakes and as a result has been "victimized", well if you show that kind of intelligence on the football field you will be victimized

2nd reason HE CANT PLAY PRESS OR MAN COVERAGE, which means he will be strictly used in zone coverage and unless we change our D scheme our corners wont be doing that

3rd He consistently bights on fakes and allows QB's to move him away from his designated target

4th He has poor recovery ability

5th His lack of size speed and leaping ability make him an easy target when matched up against teams with large or quick receivers like SD.

6th There are better corners in the draft with less baggage
