  • Tyler Eifert

Now hear me out, I don't think it would be far-fetched to see and/or expect the Broncos draft this guy. Whether it be trading back a few spots or him falling to 28.

Tyler Eifert: 6'6 251 lbs, Mackey Award winner with a Freshman quarterback. In my eyes, he is a Kyle Rudolph 2.0.

    D. Thomas, E. Decker, W. Welker, and T. Eifert. Talk about mismatches. Again, I know there is Tamme, Dreesen, Green, and Thomas, but Thomas has not developed, Dreesen is 30. Eifert is definitely the most athletic, the tallest, and he has some fantastic hands.

    Talk about a potent offense.

The running backs in the draft will still be there in the second, third, fourth rounds. There are always gems late at that position (i.e. Alfred Morris).

Again, tight end, not a priority, but a very possible and intriguing option. Thoughts?

I think I wrote elsewhere that this was an intriguing possibility. This was before we got Welker.

Eifert is the best TE in the draft, I think he could be similar to Gronk, maybe not as strong, but certainly as big and with the same ability to go up and get the ball.

Dressen and Tamme are serviceable, but if we wanted to make the passing offense unstoppable, Eifert would be the way to do it.

The only issue of course is we still have holes at RB and DE. But yes that would be about as unstoppable as you could get.

Thomas is at the point where he's going to demand a double team. If safeties key on Thomas, they can't help out on the middle with Welker, and if Eifert is there then the LB's would just have a horrible time single covering him. And then of course Decker can always get open.

It sounds awesome, but whether it would be the best way to help us win in January? Idk, we will probably take the more balanced approach.

Eifert will never see pick #28...he'll be long gone

If we're looking at adding a weapon, Tennessee WR Justin Hunter is more likely

I like Eifert a lot and in my opinion the Broncos have two #2 TEs in Tamme and Dreessen. They are very good TEs, but they are not game changers with a special catching radius and freakish athleticism. They don't dictate coverages. The Broncos can win with them, and both have the right work ethic and unselfish attitude. They just don't dominate like the top TEs. Eifert can be great target with size and ability to make jumping catches.

After the Broncos signed Wes Welker, I think we should forget about TE in the 1st round or any round in this draft. There will be more 3-WR sets which means less 2-TE sets. If we'll see more plays with 1 TE on the field, the team already has depth with Tamme, Dreessen and Virgil Green. I doubt they will go after a fourth TE.

During the combine, the Broncos tried to hide their interest in Welker by saying they were more concerned about upgrading the TE position.

As recently as the combine, Broncos sources said they would not in the bidding for Welker because at least some influential members of the front office didn't see him as a perfect fit because they wanted to get better at tight end first. And there was no interest in Welker from the Broncos on the first day of free agency.
Were these "Broncos sources" telling the truth? Are they looking for a top TE to dominate the redzone and goal line plays? After what happened today, it sounds like a smoke screen.

its still possible. I dont see him going top 20 because i dont see the value. After 20th pick its Bengals, Rams, Vikings, Colts, Packers and Texans.

Bengals have Jermaine Gresham, Rams just signed Cook, Vikings have Rudolph, Colts took Fleener and Allen last draft. So its Packers or texans, even then i dont really see them taking Eifert.

I'd rather wait a year and get Colt Lyerla, he is the next Gronk.

I fully disagree. Manning has said before that Tamme is a huge mismatch and usually how the defense plays him dictates what the Broncos do. He is so fast that you can't cover him with lb'ers and he is much bigger and stronger than nickel corners. I think if they got a guy like Eifert, he'd be the #2 TE.

2 TDs in 16 games? I would expect more from a huge mismatch that can't be covered by LBs. Jacob Tamme has 7 career TDs (in 5 years). Kyle Rudolph scored 9 TDs this past season with Christian Ponder throwing the ball.

Lol if they got Eifert he would become our best TE.

We already shored up the passing attack which was one of the best in the NFL. We somewhat shored up the run game but it's still questionable with some of the interior o-linemen and runningbacks. I think we should look defense in the draft

that article actually says that the te spot is the key, so adding eifert might have a huge effect on how manning ran the offense, he would be more unstoppable than tamme. id argue we need a lb more, but he would be an upgrade.

No doubt he would be an upgrade. Eifert is pound for pound just as fast and quick as Tamme but is also bigger and a better blocker. There's no doubt he would start day 1. So he's not a bad pick by any means. I just think it's a luxury pick but heck, it's not a bad pick by any means

We addressed the Tight End position a year ago. End of story.

But, what would you think about Drafting Matt Barkley? Anybody out there think that's a good idea?

The point is that we addressed the QB position a year ago with Peyton Manning and Osweiler just like we addressed the TE position. So, just as I don't expect us to pick a QB, I also don't expect us to pick a player at a position that's been addressed. Plus, we have 2 young players that appear to have impressed the coaches with their extremely limited play. And, although they may not be as good of "Football Players" as Eifert, they are both superior athletes, in which we've invested time and effort. From the perspective of positions of need, AND from the perspective of BPA, I wouldn't touch Eifert in a million years.

With that being said, if the Broncos FO think Eifert is the BPA, and he is there at #28, it wouldn't shock me at all to see the guy picked. After all, Elway is a former QB who values this position.

Watch the second play. Eifert making a sideline jumping catch against the #1 CB in this draft. Now imagine this guy playing with Manning and dealing with single coverage the whole season because of Thomas-Decker-Welker.

The Broncos can't upgrade the QB position in this draft. They can upgrade the TE position. It does not mean they want to. We don't know.
